- Not as deep as we normally go but any hole we find were climbing down for a look. We needed to check all our gear still works aswell for upcoming videos as we havent filmed for a bit so thought we'd do it down this hole. We know there used to be a hotel here but dont know if there was a pub afterwards or this stuff is from the hotel, either way we've been walking over this and were shocked to find this 20 foot under the town.
- Zábava
This was originally the Well Hall Hotel, built in 1873. It closed as a public house in 1958 but was open as the Zanzibar bar/nightclub in the 1990's and possibly for a shorter time under other names. I remember there was at least a bar on the ground level and one in the basement, but not sure what the higher floors were used for. Was most recently an opticians shop, which probably explains some of the medical documents and records. It's supposed to have a two level basement, but can't tell from the video whether you were in just one or both of them.
I just love that Burnley accent, it’s beautiful ! ❤
Thank you, a lot of people dont like it for some reason but we love the way we sound lol.
That had some mystery and some magic about it guys. I think you found your own room 101 lol
Nice little hatch in the town centre wasnt it? been walking over that for years wish id of tried lifting the hatch before now lol.
nice to see you boys out again 😁🐒🐒🐒
Thanks Mick, Were aiming to get back uploading at the level we were last year. Hope your well
@@NorthernMonkeys excellent..yes doing ok pal, let us know if we can help out buddy
Hi lads its Ste the xminer i promised you my old pit helmit and a few other bits sorry iv not been able to get over had s few health issues i promise i will be over as soon as possible keep up the good work lads ⛏️👷♂️🐒👍
Not a problem mate we've been a bit busy ourselves lately. Whenever your good is more than suitable and we hope your feeling better soon, thank you for commenting 🤜🤛💙💙💙
Great lads I've missed seeing regular vids ,this one was intriguing. Looking forward to your next.
thank u we will more stuff up soon
Awesome! Great find
Brilliant video as always, from what i can see it suggests a night club, with the beer coolers and pythons
nightclub from the mid 90's, it was a hotel too before that but we cant find a name
Sure this is Zanzibar. Open in mid-late 90s.
That's a good find you lads have discovered 👍
Great vid fellas. I do like the urban type of exploring as well as your other stuff. Was brilliant seein such a massive space that people are unknowingly walking above that isnt sewers or anything. The original layout and brickwork with the arches looks to be Edwardian or even a little earlier but as i cannot see street level its hard to say. Somehow missed your last vid but just watched it now. All the best from lancashire.
Were about 20 foot down, buildings are here on maps from the 1800's so we think the arches are from at least then surely
@@NorthernMonkeys 1800 so George iii would have been reigning then. It is a shame that no relics from that era were found down there other than the bricks, stone and mortar in the shell of the building itself.
I believe this was Sams Bar, which was also upstairs where the options was.
interesting video guys great job
Thanks John madness how much space under burnley isnt used for anything isnt it, hope your well mate
Good Video,
If you drill through the wall you'll be in the bank's vaults lol...💰💷🤣👍🏻
Were just out collecting picks and a sledge hammer give it a go lol
Bit of urban exploring boys? Nice 👌
We probably do this sort of stuff more than we do coal mines but a lot of it doesnt make the channel as 80 percent of our viewers want to see us in a coal mine lol, Hope yas are both well and good.
@@NorthernMonkeys all good thanks pal, always love ya vids 🙌
Good night in the old zanzi bar
carry one of those little ultra strong magnets in pocket (in a small bag in case anything gets stuck to it), those code door locks like the "private" door stick it on the top left of the mechanism and slide it down to bottom left and leave there - then it will probably open. Obviously this is only for use on a door you or a friend owns and you have forgotten the combination.
We will fully give this a try on the next magnetic door we come across thank you.
Wow that's a worry off my mind, I thought you were still wondering the depths of Towneley pit. 😂🤣😂🤣👍
Hahaha only just seen this lol, i found my way out of Towneley in the pitch black after my torch died we wont get lost in there until we get down that shaft and head for the house.
@@NorthernMonkeys I've still have a couple of cap lamps from Shirebrook colliery. Mind they'll need a good charger on 9 volts if I remember correctly. Best of luck
lads. Love your pit explores duck. If you ever need any help in identifying equipment, just give a shout out on your channel.👍🏴
We will do mate thank you
Nice. Smirnoff ice is about 25 years old now. So somewhere in that neighborhood of being closed. What a waste of space. All it needs is a little paint.
isnt it, thats our new bunker when the world goes to shite again
Underneath ''2nd sight'' opticians on keirby walk,I believe it was closed as a bar because of safety issues, no fire escape as at the back there is a river.
Looks like its under either the Kierby or the nightclub over the roundabout or even as far along st James street near marks and spencer, well under the ground
Your fully correct, looks like it went further at one point and there is stories of this connecting into the Kierby we got in expecting to find it.
The good old zanzibar remember it well a friend of mine had the bar for a while what a shame its ended up like that
Isn't it ? Lovely building that with a lot of space surprised it's still sat empty all this time later 💙💙
B ?
Think I know this place because I’m an old grump, not going to mention it’s name but I think a group of us were stopped by the police for underage drinking back in 1972 !
there is old signs on the wall suggesting it was a hotel for quite a while too but we cant find anything about it
Sparrow hark Hotel next 👀
One of these days you're gonna find a stiff or a skellie. That place looks well familiar although I've not been Burnley for yonks.
The lads found a body in a factory years ago but we didnt used to film for the channel then, all 3 of them were affected bad and wasnt the same for days
@@NorthernMonkeys I'd imagine so, it's not something that goes away that easy. The only consolation I suppose is they cannot suffer anymore when they've passed on.
I'd love to be able to buy somewhere like that. I'd move in and live down there lol
Waste of a beautiful building that isnt it?
@@NorthernMonkeys I know mate defo total shame like
yes take to library 😂
Is it Zanzibar I well recognise it 👌
Yes it is, none of us Monkeys are Burnley born so anything older than 20 years is a mystery to us
@@NorthernMonkeys have some good nights in there and think it was a hotel years ago really cool vid 👌
Above it used to be an opticians
We found a pair of glasses in there, which probably excited me more than it should lol
@@NorthernMonkeys haha 😂
I think I know that place was it a night club?
At one point yes it was
🥰🥰😘💋💙💙💙
hazard a guess at zanzibar?
We didnt know but yes your correct, also been called Sams.
Buy a gimble chaps
ive lost my selfie stick and had the go pro in my hand, made myself dizzy editing the video sorry
@@NorthernMonkeys No need to apologise I really enjoy your channel, I'd had a few beers last night an got a bit seasick viewing it mate haha
