- Jaipur, often referred to as the Pink City, is the capital and the largest city of the Indian state of Rajasthan. Founded in 1727 by Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amer, Jaipur is one of the earliest planned cities of modern India, designed by Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. It's known for its rich history and cultural heritage, including the iconic Hawa Mahal, City Palace, Amber Fort, and the Jantar Mantar observatory, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city's nickname, "The Pink City," comes from the distinctive color of its buildings. Jaipur is a major tourist destination, forming part of the Golden Triangle tourist circuit along with Delhi and Agra. It serves as a gateway to other tourist destinations in Rajasthan like Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, and Udaipur. The city's economy is fueled by tourism, gemstone cutting, the manufacture of jewelry and luxury textiles, and information technology. Jaipur also hosts several cultural sites and festivals that attract visitors from all over the world.
