I'd love to live close enough to a terminal to be able to do standby cruising. Love the magic shows on some ships, cool that they are adding more shows.
not a bad way to get a dirt cheap cruise! if u cam take time off at the drop of a hat though. to be honest i really dont get the attraction of magic as entertainment. i can watch a little bit of it but a whole show? still there is so much else happening on board!

The standby program isn't always that simple, and it's not unusual for the standby fares to actually end up costing MORE than simply booking an inside cabin. Based on double occupancy, $49 per person per day x 7 days = is approx $686, plus port fees and taxes of approx $400 brings your base costs to approx $1086, NOT including gratuities. Also, your followers need to know that booking a standby cruise makes you INELIGIBLE for almost all onboard credit promotions. No military OBC. No AARP OBC. No First responder OBC. No shareholder OBC. All things considered, many will find it easier, financially advantageous, and less stressful to simply go with a regular booking. (FWIW, I sailed standby in January, and was notified that I had been confirmed on my sailing approx 38 hours before our ship departed) BEWARE.
