Glad it brought back good memories. The North side was very sad for me, as I thought it had been totally destroyed along with all the lovely B&B hotels.
I live about 20 miles from Scarborough and I have been saying how quiet it seems all season. As your video was made last month at the height of the holiday season it does seem very quiet. Sadly over the years SBC have systematically got rid of most of the attractions that the town once had, and they haven’t been replaced. Scarborough is in need of substantial investment for the future to catch up with other major resorts.
I didn't think the Esplanade, the town centre and South side were that bad. I was in the town centre at 8am. It was the North side that disappointed me more than anything, it had been asset stripped and I hate the modern flats on the sea front. The hotels along North Marine rd were lovely when I was a kid and now look like flats.
You are correct about the spot where the big wheel is it used to be the futurist cinema ...there was a big campaine to try to save it BUt it was demolished in 2018!
the futurist was so wonderful...the famous entertainers that played there are endless, I'll always have great memories of being in there with my family ...but will NEVER understand why it's distruction was approved to be replaced by that wheel....especially at a cost of millions of tax payers monies....

Me thinks it is the gate way to destroying that side of Scarborough. Unsafe buildings and fires happen in Sheffield, subsidence in Scarborough. @@chaddamp2894
@@timawells they ruined the north bay, you've got a miniature railway and the sealife centre no Mr marvels or water splash world or corner cafe or all the bucket n spade shops on that corner. Built yuppie flats on the famous corner cafe.
Looks like they have the foot in the door to destroy the South Bay removing the Futurist. Why build seafront flats when so many great hotels empty in Scarborough. @@timawells what they have done in their infinite wisdom, is turn Scarborough from a children's holiday resort into a day van resort. Look at all the motor homes parked along marine drive. Removed a lot of attractions and either demolished bucket n spade shops or turned them into coffee bars. A lot of the hotels are now flats. That Ask Italian restaurant looks totally out of place in the middle of a working harbour, I go on there to look at the actual fishing boats that's left, I'm not interested in pleasure craft.
They've tried to yuppiefy a traditional seaside resort. People go to the seaside for tradition Tim. There has to be somewhere left to go to escape Sheffield......or we will go mad! 🤣
They are over hyped. I visit regularly and don't see any. There is the usual Kurdish barbers and eastern European food shops in the town centre, particularly Castle rd running up to Falsgrave.......but so has everywhere in the UK now. Unfortunately it's not 1990 anymore.
Brings back so many good memories seeing this side of the bay, had some great days out as a young lad with the family.

Thanks Tim nice tour of Scarborough xxx
Much better than North Bay Linda, North bay was fantastic as a kid, not anymore. XX

Council in Sheffield find ways to condemn building they want to get rid of or they mysteriously get burnt down, Scarborough appear to use land slides.

Its a toll house Tim, built to toll the newly built Marine Drive back in the day, early 1900s I think........
What goes around comes around Richard.
how come hotel lifts are free but the beautiful scarborough lifts are doomed and now not available???????????
£2.60 to go up and down in the Cliff lifts. Than god I found free toilets a basic human right.
Tim, you are in Scarborough not Cleethorpes, we won't get bored!
In the South end of Scarborough its great, but the North end is worse than Cleethorpes Richard.

I think its more those long term unemployed living in B&B's. Other than the Clifton hotel I don't think its an issue in Scarborough.
I believe the Grand Hotel was overrun with them not long ago.@@timawells
Were the government paying for them to use it?@@moodyguymick
