I love the SKX007, I have the K version and it works fantastic and I dive, work on my car, exercise do everything with it and it keeps good time...a true tool watch.

I used to be like this. I had a Rolex Sub, Omega Speedmaster Pro and wore them rarely. I wore other “beaters” regularly. Had a Breitling Chronomat Evolution also.. love all these watches but then I asked myself, why did I buy them? To have expensive ornaments? Why buy a Rolex diver watch if you are never going to use it for what it is intended for? It’s a crapshoot imo. I sold my expensive watches recently and got a few nice timepieces (all under 1K) and I couldn’t be happier. Love the Seiko brand. They have a great rep and I still think that they’re underrated. The “Samurai” line is really sleek and elegant. Reminds me of the Omega Planet Ocean.
The only watch looking Rolex right in the eye with the same credence or more! 😀 - Rocking mine every single day and I don't get tired of it like expensive watches I've owned!
I just bought both the Skx007J and Skx009J for $350 each, here in Oct 2021. Awesome watches, couldn’t be happier to be a proud classic Seiko owner! Both came with the jingly Jubilee bracelets, but I have to say the jubilee is quite comfortable and I love the look of these SKXs on a stainless steel bracelet. I might have to upgrade to an Uncle Seiko beads of rice or z199. The rubber straps just don’t do it for me. Great video!
Time to do a recap on this one. I got this watch maybe 3 almost 4 years ago now. Now that I've checked again: new old stock are showing up for $750 now, even scuffed used ones pulling $300+ on ebay. The ship might have sailed on this watch as an affordable collectable.
I owned the J version a long time ago, and really studied the differences from the K version at the time. Many don't know that the J version has a sharper, more crisp finish no the lugs and overall looks a lot better built. The lumes were applied better too, if I remember correctly. Now I own the SKX013 and love it. Interestingly, it has the sharp and crisp lugs like the J version. Definitely a lifetime keeper!

I bought a 009 to protect my nice watch and after a month I realised I had completely stopped wearing my nice watch. I have the jubilee bracelet which feels cheap but is comfortable, and I also have a Strapcode Super Engineer II which can be hard to find but worth getting. Even though it keeps terrible time, has no hacking and can't be hand wound I still love it.

I've never tried a perlon strap but I really like the Crafter Blue and the President on Mr Uncle but I counted a dozen NATO straps at home today so maybe I should cycle through those for a while. And the Lume is too good, even walking inside on a sunny day it glows.
Last around this time you posted this video (I didn’t see this video ever show up as I searched until now) but I am glad I did. So I bought an expensive watch as I turned 25 years old and finished a desired degree. I figured I spend a pretty penny on myself. Was desiring to buy my pops one (but he passed a few weeks ago). Point I’m making is- Seiko 007s are beaters, great tools, and should be passed down to good family and friends. I’m glad I make the purchase
love my skx007k/009k but i cant find an original bezel insert to replace mine. I really hate the aftermarket bezels circulating now, they are nowhere near the original
J and k versions no difference at all in quality its a myth just the extra writing on the j model over the k is the only difference I actually like the k dial the best tbh :) but there the same watch in quality wise fantastic watch I can see why its a classic it holds its on in its own in its own way with the premium watches out there" if your lucky enough to own one cherish this timepiece ;)
When you say Creation Watches I wonder if it's the same place I just got mine from, CW watches (from Amazon). It was packed the same way that made me question the authenticity. They are in Singapore. Had the same styrofoam peanuts in the box too. As a side note, my wife yelled at me for spending so much money. I wonder what she would have said if I said, meh, it's just a beater watch. LOL
I’d argue that the Seiko SRP777 is much better than the skx007. It’s larger and better proportioned, has a better movement, is also iso rated, has a similar, classic design and aesthetic, is equally as rugged, durable, and dependable, and has a design with more history and relevance to Seiko than the 007.
Great watch! The ' J ' version is most likely not made in Japan and it's made for the middle eastern market as the date wheel has Arabic writing. I have both the K and J versions and have one on a stock Seiko President bracelet and the other on the stock Jubilee bracelet. They are very comfortable on the wrist.
You might be interested by Crafter Blue if you considering getting a rubber strap. Nice review and congratulations on your Seiko diver's watch acquisition.

I’m just finding out about these watches and looking on eBay and CZcams and doing some research. What’s confusing is all the SKX models with various numbers . There’s on on eBay in my price range used and it’s SKX013K2 and it smaller and 38mm. So I’m being careful buying bc I don’t want to buy one and later find out later I should’ve got the other model.
SKX is one of Seiko symbolic model. I prefer to buy the Japanese version because it is more representative of Seiko, just like Swiss watches with Swiss made. You would not want such classics to design from Japan but assembled in Malaysia.
Beater? Seiko is a fine time piece. My oldest brother bought his in Viet Nam. A Seiko can last a lifetime, thick to thin & go to war. I think the only reason to call a Seiko diver a beater is because not many watches can take the abuse & come out the other side still ticking away, IMHO

Congratulations, nice piece to have as a beater, personally wearing the SNE499 today, solar engine on a blue silicone strap with a sweet Pepsi dial. Also the SKX is 100% discontinued, and was kinda sorta replaced with the reintroduced Seiko 5.
SKX007 is iconic but it's not the best value beater watch from Seiko right now in my opinion. I would instead suggest the new Prospex turtles as the best true value diver from Seiko. I personally think it has a better and tougher build than the SKX, with an upgraded movement that has hacking and hand-winding. The turtles are equally as iconic as the SKX, and most importantly, it is not overpriced, which I feel the SKX is right now because it has been discontinued. Maybe you can get a turtle and make a video comparing both? Looking forward to more Seiko vids.
I still see these watches are available on Amazon even though they have been discontinued. Are those authentic skx’s? I’m interested in buying one but I don’t want to buy a fake one.

What I "guess" happed is Michael ordered on a NATO strap, watch creations would happily remove the original keep it and deliver on an aftermarket NATO. I think Michael make a mistake ordering the 007 and ending up without an original Seiko strap. I have changed my original strap to an Uncle Seiko too because its better, but, I'm happy to have the original rubber strap with the Seiko stamps on the buckle and Seiko tsunami stamped into the rubber.

beater is a derogatory word sometimes, especially with skx! seikos dive lineage is unparalleled. you’re only going to see these watches go out in price since discontinuation. ‘it’s not a rolex’ no its not lol and why have you bought this to wear instead of rolex watches are meant to be worn man and you say in this video ‘you arent going to wear it for diving’ ? why? hahaha ? its not really a beater anyway, the in house movement, iconic design, ISO dive rating each individually tested, name another ‘beater’ that does this it’s solid and the build and polish quality is insane for this price. this watch has never come on a nato ever so thats confusing. Its the most modded watch about and a huge community. enjoy your watch, you’ll like it as much and if not more than your rolex in no time. for someone who has rolex’s and tudors you sound like you don’t know much about watches, educate yourself bro.

In all honesty I wouldn’t call mine a beater. I have two Rolex, a Planet Ocean and a couple of other £300-£500 watches. The Seiko SKX is a classic and with a little work can become a rather refined looking watch. As I was saying, I don’t call it a beater. I call it a watch you can wear in an African or Central American country whilst you are working to destabilise it.
How do you know if you’re a watch snob? You have to constantly say you bought it as you needed a beater. It may well be a beater but more kudos to you if you made no mention of it. You don’t have to follow the crowd.
My dad bought one in Dubai in 2001 and i am typing this comment while wearing it 22 years later. Still going strong. Vintage beater. Love it

Michael Bath I bought an extra of the original Seiko Jubilee, two nato’s and a gingerbread brown leather two-piece strap.
I threw on a Strapcode Hexad bracelet on mine to make it more beefier! Gotten a lot of compliments on it.
If you want the Seiko rubber strap order the one that was introduced with the turtle SRP777. It is well made and very comfortable.
I think that may be similar or the same as the strap on my golden turtle - very comfortable. Cheers!

Love the SKX. I wish Seiko did not discontinue it. I own the 009. Wish i would have bought a 007 before they got scarce. The 5KX is a real pos.

Creation are definitely legit. Used them several times.
Also with the rubber straps they do become a little more pliable, but only a little. However we purchased a Silicon Barton strap wich is amazing.

How can they have ‘made in Japan’ on the dial if they is the case? The day/date really does have some weird quirks that’s the sure.

today, in 2023, that watch is $900 on amazon. A little high for a "beater" watch. My Idea of a beater is an Invicta pro diver automatic from amazon.

I agree the OEM rubber starp is trash, I put my Skx on an Isofrane strap and I highly recommend it.

Iv'e never seen an authentic 007J from the factory with a NATO strap. It's always on Seiko's notoriously stiff "rubber" strap.

Bought mine from Long Island Watch and the chapter ring is spot-on, along with the bezel alignment!
Have a look at Zelos, Spinnaker, Phoibos, Deep Blue and Squale. Squale can be expensive

Nice watch Michael. I have the 009J I believe the number is it’s the Pepsi bezel version of this watch. Check out the Crafters Blue straps for this watch. The BB Bronze is 43mm. Cheers

beater is a derogatory word sometimes, especially with skx! seikos dive lineage is unparalleled. you’re only going to see these watches go out in price since discontinuation. ‘it’s not a rolex’ no its not lol and why have you bought this to wear instead of rolex watches are meant to be worn man and you say in this video ‘you arent going to wear it for diving’ ? why? hahaha ? its not really a beater anyway, the in house movement, iconic design, ISO dive rating each individually tested, name another ‘beater’ that does this it’s solid and the build and polish quality is insane for this price. this watch has never come on a nato ever so thats confusing. Its the most modded watch about and a huge community. enjoy your watch, you’ll like it as much and if not more than your rolex in no time. for someone who has rolex’s and tudors you sound like you don’t know much about watches, educate yourself bro.

In all honesty I wouldn’t call mine a beater. I have two Rolex, a Planet Ocean and a couple of other £300-£500 watches. The Seiko SKX is a classic and with a little work can become a rather refined looking watch. As I was saying, I don’t call it a beater. I call it a watch you can wear in an African or Central American country whilst you are working to destabilise it.
Yeah, a bit hard on the Seiko. It's a great watch. So much so i just bought another one.

How do you know if you’re a watch snob? You have to constantly say you bought it as you needed a beater. It may well be a beater but more kudos to you if you made no mention of it. You don’t have to follow the crowd.
