  • Instead of an Alex On Autos Weekly segment I decided to whip up a quick (well, as quick as I can make one) video of a 2014 Kia Soul + rental car I had while I was in Southern California for a few days. Hopefully I'll have a Soul for a full week before the end of the summer so I can finish up a complete review set including a child seat video and an infotainment video along with more detailed comparisons. In the mean time, snuggle up with your favorite hamster and enjoy!

    I like how you score different aspects of the vehicle, i think it helps buyers zone in more on what that particular vehicle is better or worse at than its competition. As always, great extensive review Alex.

    We have a 2014 and a 2016 plus. I think the engines are kind of gruff during acceleration.

    Here's a comparison I'd like to see: The Kia Soul + vs the 2015 Honda Fit EX. They are virtually the same size outside. I've just driven both and have my views, but would be very interested in yours. Thanks for all the hard work!

    Kia, you are missing a great opportunity here. Please put the 1.6 Turbo engine on this car and call it a SX. The engine / gas mileage is the only thing holding us on for trading our Sorrento.

    • @SampsonPug
      @SampsonPug Před 10 lety +1

      I agree, I bought the regular 1.6l because it's the only engine size offered with a Manual. Don't get me wrong, the car is slow but at least I and wrangle out something at higher rpms, but a Turbo would go a long way.

    Thanks for this review, Alex!
    I'd really like to see this compared to the 2015 Honda Fit. Think they might be cross-shopped because the Fit also carries a lot of cargo.
    Also, I think the Scion xB was discontinued as of the 2013 model year, wasn't it?

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  Před 10 lety

      The xB shows as being available as a 2014 model on the Scion website. it is just speculation at this point but there may be a redesigned xB for 2015.

      Alex on Autos That's good to know. I read last year, I think, on a few different sites that it was going to be discontinued due to slow sales.

    Really nice review, thx Alex. I wish the soul get better MPG.
    Do you think it is because of it's boxy shape and wider tires? Or just not a good design engine?

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  Před 10 lety +1

      It's all down to the shape. The bigger your profile the lower your MPGs. The engine and transmissions in the Soul get much better economy when placed in a sedan.

    Only at "Alex on Autos" would a "Quick Spin" produce a 17 1/2 min video. :-)

  • @takhayc

    I just can't get over the "Michelle Wie" persona. More importantly, I find the track too narrow and the sitting position too high. It would be unfair for me to judge it as I haven't actually drove one yet. But I am afraid that there won't be much difference than driving a GMC Jimmy/ Chevy Blazer, or even the Subaru Forester for that matter. For me at least, I feel like I am going to roll over on the highway offramps when I test drove those other two vehicles. The one thing that I do appreciate about the aforementioned are their flat hoods...great visibility in tight spots.

    Whats the difference between the Base and the plus automatic Soul?

    The EPIC FAIL on this is that Combined MPG. Otherwise I was impressed when I sat in one.

      It is! By happenstance I should get the Kia Soul ! today! Sorry, I couldn't resist using plenty of exclamation points since it will seriously be the ! model. You can find me over at facebook.com/alexonautos to follow the week.

      Alex on Autos Can you guestimate when you'll publish the new Soul review?
      BTW, I just purchased a 2014 maxed-out metallic black Soul demo from a dealer in Saarbrücken Germany. I take delivery on 30 July - can't wait!

    It's odd, my mom is averaging 27mpg in the 1.6l, But I am on the other hand in my 1.6l Manual averaging 34.9mpg (Since the beginning of the week). By the end of the week I'm usually around 33mpg.

    I was under the impression that the Soul used a different, Android-based navigation system than other Kia products, and was supposed to represent the debut of their next generation UVO system.

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  Před 10 lety

      I think you're right. I haven't seen the new Soul with the nav and wasn't able to find one on such short notice.

    at 1:08 -... in what world is a Honda Civic bigger than a Kia Soul???

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  Před 10 lety

      In our world. The Civic is 179 inches long and the Soul is significantly shorter at 163. Even though the Soul is boxy the overall volume isn't that far off the Soul is only a few cubic feet greater in overall capacity.
