In fact, Balavoine's version is most famous in France but it's cool if you've liked this one 😎 to me, musical arrangements are strange and it just sounds weird to a native french speaker because in this one, Johnny Hallyday cuts his words out very strangely and his intonation is really weird, I don't know why

This song got a story:
Daniel Balavoine wrote it for Johnny as his carreer beginned, there were friends and Johnny even said: this song is great, why don't you sing it yourself?
Johhny recorded this song for an album, but it was not a single (producers thought it could not be a hit), and Daniel thought that the song was not produced how he would like (not the Johnny's fault, just the production)
Daniel Balavoine remembered what Johnny said about the song, and recorded the song by himself, doing it how, in his idea it should have been done. And it immediatly became a very big hit (one of the biggest Balavoine), years after, when Johnny put this song in his 90's tour, as an hommage to Daniel's Balavoine death.
Je ne suis pas un héro became the single of the live album of this tour and became also a vrey big hit.
BUT, at the same time there was the war between Irak and Koweit so the song was censored in a few radio because some people thought it was a sort of provocation about the war (I am not a hero).

Wrong, Daniel Balavoine wrote it for Johnny but Johnny finds the song too hard and wants to change the lyrics, Daniel doesn't want it and therefore keeps it to himself. Johny never tell "why don't you sing it yourself?" Jhony tell "this song is made for you not for me" because too hard for him.
Daniel did not like the reaction of jhonny who wanted to change the lyrics. Johnny waited until Daniel died to resume his song, a shame for the fans, and this music that Dereck listens to and a recomposition of a band where Daniel explains to Johny how to sing this song the band has been reworked, but they did not never sing together.

First of all, thank you to make me discover this recording of Je ne suis pas un héros, a 1980 song written and composed by Daniel Balavoine for Johnny Hallyday. Daniel Balavoine wasn't the most successfull singer in France but his songs, his melodies, his voice still remain unique.

Hi Dereck! Thanks for your react on Daniel Balavoine and Johnny Hallyday. This song is an unreleased one for the fans. In fact, it's a title that Daniel Balavoine composed for his friend Johnny Hallyday who was going to release a new album in the 80s, his 26th, but unfortunately the recording was not up to the composer's level.
The song will never become a single and Daniel will come out a little frustrated. It was during the recording that Johnny whispered the idea of singing it himself.
Daniel decides to cover the song in a style close to Johnny's version and even dedicates the song to him in his album Un Autre Monde (Another World) in the libretto "A Jean-Philippe Smet".
For this unreleased song, in October 2020, Bruno Haye, the artistic manager of the catalog who had made a discovery by digitizing the artist's tapes with an unpublished song Je Suis Devenu Un Homme ( I Have Become A Man) recorded in 1977 but which wasn't on any album, discovered the DUO!
The magnetic tape had to be cleaned and recalibrated again,it's Andy Scott who worked with Daniel especially in his last album Sauver L'Amour (Save Love) in 1985 who took care of it.

This is the first time that we hear the two voices mingling since the two singers recorded it each on their own. We can find it in a Limited Edition collector's box art book format art book and L'Album De Sa Vie ( The Album Of His Life) released in January 2021 that I bought!

Balavoine wrote it for Hallyday who put it on an album, but he didn't like it and was not signing it or release as single... Untill balavoine decided to then sign it. Then Hallyday saw it got popular and decided to sign it too. So in a way, the Hallyday version IS the original

This version is all the more fantastic that the song was originally written by Daniel Balavoine for ...Johnny Hallyday... who refused it. Daniel Balavoine therefore kept it for himself. It became such a hit that afterwards Johnny reconsidered it and that he sang it solo and then duo with Daniel Balavoine.

L'intro façon super héros que Hallyday n'a pas reprise, le final que Hallyday n'a pas repris non plus.
En fait c'est plus l'arrangement musical qui me déplaît dans les versions de Hallyday, car je sais que vocalement il sait envoyer du bois.
La force de la musique de Balavoine est de proposer une ambiance super héros à l'opposé du texte.
