We ate it that night. The family I salmon fished for that summer took me there after the season was over. The old man in the family said anything under a hundred lbs. was good eating size. Old Earl was right. It was delicious. But I must admit I sure wanted to catch one of those giants I saw pictures of all over the docks where the charter boats were moored. Great memories. Hope I can go back some day.

According to 2018 rules, it is illegal to kill any halibut over 2 metres in Norway. fish over 1.25 metres are mature and breeders. Most outfitters in Norway, including the ones in Havøysund avocate the release of any fish between 80 cm (legal size limit) and 125 cm. With the export restriction of fish fillets, of 10 kilos and 20 kilos when fishing from a registered fishing camp, the kill of a large halibut is insane and nothing more than a trophy kill.

Big females should be released, they are the Breeders, the meat is very fatty also not very good, seen a 320 pounder filleted in Homer Alaska, it was very fatty meat keep the smaller ones only.

The biggest ever would have pulled that rod out of your hands. It will even pull you in.
It's a shame when these beautiful fish are killed, especially when it's for ego.

probably the dumbest thing i’ve ever seen today i killed a 180 pounder with 2 hits with a gaf it’s so much safer to do it that way then shark hook it never should you do what this guy did one good hit with a gaf could’ve prevented the whole struggle with the fish
