Brand new uke player here, non musician, can't read music. This is incredibly helpful; you are clear, articulate and the pace is perfect for beginners. Thank you!
Thanks so much Blyma, I'm glad you found this helpful! Have fun getting started! 😊🎶
Agreed! Zero talent on my end, so appreciate your video.
I am crying right now every time I try to learn about this and try it it sounds horrible and the video and apps move way to fast
@@annacrabtree5011 You can slow down the video. Just click on the little cog wheel icon on the bottom of the video and you will see how to adjust speed to meet your needs. I have done this with several tutorials and find it helpful. I usually watch the whole thing thru at normal speed first and then adjust to support my learning ability. Hope this helps :)
I’m VERY lucky since I’ve played the Clarinet! So I know how to read the treble clef!
me: yess! i can play the C chord
*g chord: allow me to introduce myself*
Relatable lmao
F and B tho
HAVE YOU EVEN TRIED EAUD

G got easy but now F is so rough. Going from G to F or vice versa, forget about it. lol
I haven't touched my ukelele for years. I finally got to play something on it with your videos!

This was a nice video! Thank you for putting this together. Easy to follow and perfect for beginners! ❤️
Glad it was helpful! 😊
I agree with what others had said. Thankfully this video was among the ones that popped up during my first few hours with an ukulele. I forgot what I searched for. For now, I'm not aiming at going above beginner's level. I just want to learn simple songs like the ones that you have here and get them perfect.
I love the song choices and the island strumming pattern. The images showing the lyrics along with the chords are very helpful. Thank you! Upvoted and subscribed.
I'm glad you enjoyed learning these songs! Thank you for the lovely feedback. Simple songs are a great way to get started. Thanks for subscribing!

I am new to the ukulele. Love your video and your singing great job thanks
Thanks so much 😊 Have fun getting started!
You have opened up my world. I had a ukulele for 4 years . Never touching it till one day I got it out and searched you tube and there you were. I can do the beginners lesson really good and even was inspired to teach my self to play Hallelujah. Wellll... it's a work in progress. Lol. Since my mother's stroke ,I play for her what I know and she sang. That is good to strengthen her vocal cords and throat. Thank you for being there and giving me a purpose. Look forward to the next lesson forward Laura. Maybe you can tell me what is your next video ,after beginners? Thanks sallie
Thanks so much Sallie, I'm happy to hear that you're feeling inspired to start playing your uke! That's so sweet that you're playing Hallelujah for your mother to sing with you. I'd suggest checking out my Ukulele For Beginners Series playlist next, followed by Fundamentals and Techniques, and then 3 and 4 chord songs. Here's a link to all of my playlists: bit.ly/3ysmx0i Thanks for the question!
Very clear instruction. Hope I can translate it to my baritone. Thank you!
My pleasure Barbara, I'm glad you found this helpful! You can definitely translated the chord shapes to your baritone. With standard baritone tuning (DGBE), you'll be in the key of G with these chords, playing G and D7 rather than C and G7. Have fun with these songs! 😊
Amazing tutorial 🙏😊
Thank you! 😊
Well spoken and very clear!! Tysm!!
Glad it was helpful!
@@LaraMarkowitzMusic 😁❤
I’m not a fan of the song choices but I like the speed and how you teach. Thank you
Thanks! I wish there were more 2 chord songs to choose from. Here are a few more that you may like better 😊 czcams.com/video/36yx3dcVeRc/video.html

You're most welcome!
Loved your tutorial, very easy to follow. Have had no previous experience with any musical instrument. Now at 80y.o feel I need to broaden my horizons and ordered my new Ukulele a couple of days ago and am hoping to receive it before the end of this week. I hope to continue following your videos. Thank you.
Thanks so much John. Have fun getting started!
Thanks Lara!
You're very welcome Gary! 😊
A nice music video here.
Fresh all.
It's a song 'n flower for you.
Thank you! 😊
That's so great, I don't want to learn all the cords as I've tried really hard before. This is perfect for me, been looking for a 2 cord strum and even asked you about it today 5 Nov 2022. Thanks.
You're very welcome!
Thank you madam :)... I always wanted to play ukelele and I finally decided to do it! My name is Mari. Thank you :)

Thank u so much for the tutorial!! It's difficult for me to put my fingers on the G7 note, but I just started today so maybe overtime I'll learn and get used to it, anyways thank u for the help!
My pleasure, I'm glad you found this helpful! It does take some time for your fingers to learn and build the muscle memory for chord positions. Have fun getting started on uke! 😊
You are great ❤
Thanks so much! 😊
Thank you 😊
My pleasure! 😊
Today was day 2 for me. My fingers are too sore to try any more today, but after sleeping on what I learned today tomorrow's lofty goal will be to play Clementine with the fancy strum pattern. :)
Thank you, this was such a nicely paced lesson!
I'm so glad that you found this lesson helpful, thank you! Day 2...you're off to a great start! I hope day 3 goes just as well and have fun playing Clementine 😊
thx
Thankyou it really helped me bc i'm just a begginer. It's so understandable Thankyou❤
You're so welcome Richie! Have fun getting started 😊
Nice job Lara
Thanks Rick!
I just realised in your links below the video that there were sets of strings with low Gs ! I used to play with my guitar a little when I am young, but it was too ambitious for me. Thank you Lara for all the details and tips you are providing !
Hi Mona, I'm glad you found the link! Low Gs are available for each size uke. My link is for tenor strings. I also found ukulele to be a better fit for me than guitar 😊 Glad you're finding the lessons helpful and I hope you enjoy the low G!
I love your videos!
Thanks so much! 😊
Thank you so much for your videos and pertinent advices. I'd like to ask you a question : is your G low string tuned looser or do you have a spécial dicker string ?
Really good I was able to make a little bit of my own song
Yay, sounds like you're off to a great start! 👍😊
thank you!
My pleasure! Have fun with these songs :)
Thanks for these great videos! Your pace is just right for helping me help my daughter!! Any chance Mary Had a Little Lamb could be played with these same chords? Or do you have a video for Mary Had a... already? Thanks again!!!
Thanks so much Maggie! I haven't taught Mary Had A Little Lamb but it can be played with C and G7 as well 😊
amazing
Thank you!
I just got my ukulele yesterday! I used to play the acoustic guitar as a kid but well now I’m 63 so I thought I would try the ukulele! It’s harder than I remember the guitar being but my hands are that much older and arthritic now so I’m still hanging in there though. second day!
Wonderful, have fun getting started! 😊
I can't believe you have Iko Iko here!!! Cindy Lauper recorded and I love it!! I'm totally buying a ukulele and taking your lessons❤
Thanks Madelon, glad you were excited to find Iko Iko in this video! It's a great song! Have fun getting started on ukulele 😊
L
Thank you for this useful method. I am very happy to have managed singing Clémentine while playing. For the moment only with DOWN strums. Not yet with the D DUD pattern which seems much more difficult to me, although I know it by heart. Something still escapes me.
I'm glad you found this helpful! Sounds like you're making good progress! Keep practicing and in time you'll master the other pattern as well 👍😊
@@LaraMarkowitzMusic I am still confused: Have i to play : D DU D = 1 2&3, so: 1 2&3 1 2&3 1 2&3 repeatedly ? Is it right? Thank you for your help !
@@lishavi6607 Yes, that's right, you've got it! Keep repeating :)

Hi Lara. Thanks so much for this starter! Very clear and bright instruction. I can’t find the pdf link though. Do you have a website? Cheers
Hi Stew, I'm so glad you enjoyed this lesson, thanks! Here's a link to the post on Patreon where you can download the pdf for these songs. I don't have a website but all of my songsheets are available on Patreon: www.patreon.com/posts/39462426
Thank you so much this helps a lot! I just have one question, when I stum my ukelele it echos a bit after each strum, is there a way to fix that? love the video :)
I'm so glad you found this helpful! 🤗 I haven't experienced echoing so I'm not sure what to suggest for that. If it's more of a buzzing sound, you may be able to fix it by playing closer to the frets or by putting new string on your uke.
Me and my friends are doing our school Talent show and I play uke so they wanted me to play and they send me this video because they said it would be fun and easy to do
Nice! Have fun in the talent show 😊
@@LaraMarkowitzMusic thank you
reallly good beginner videos! However, it would be helpful if you would print the island strumming pattern on the screen and leave it there, please consider for future videos, thanks!
Thanks Claudia! My video formatting has evolved quite a lot over the past 3 years since this was published. You'll see the patterns on screen in my lessons over the past couple years 😊
Blessings always 👏👏👏👏💯🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️🥰

Thank you for a great video Lara, the newbie feels like a musician now. Paul Lucas.
That's awesome Paul! Welcome to the world of musicians 😊
This was perfect for my son. His teacher in school moves too fast for him and he's feeling left behind.
Thanks so much! I'm glad the pace of this lesson was helpful 😊
When you are on the up strum are you strumming all the stings or just the bottom ones? I’m having such a horrible time trying to learn an up strum ( hitting all the strings ) thank you. Your tutorials are fabulous.
Hi Joanne, I'm glad you're enjoying the tutorials, thanks! It's ok to only catch 2 or 3 strings on the upstrum. It's definitely more challenging than the downstrum. Over time your strumming will improve and you'll catch all 4 strings more often, but try not to let it frustrate you. It will get easier and more consistent with practice 😊
@@LaraMarkowitzMusic thank you so much.
Your voice is beautiful!
Thank you so much Mary!
