    yeah choose the side dishes that arent even really side dishes lol. mook the jelly thing is delicious but you need to season it properly. Ganjang gaejang is supposed to be whole crab not tiny pieces of it. Jokbal is a snack its not a side dish and neither is the silkworm larvae. Most koreans dont even like the larvae thing. It is definitely not served as a side dish in restaurants. The only things in this video that are actually side dishes you see often in korea is mook, the kkaennip (leaf) and gae jang but again full crabs

    • @kpopshawol
      @kpopshawol Před 9 lety +4

      a lot of restaurants serve silkworms in Korea and like the comment above, I've also seen them sold in stands on multiple occasions thorough out the country. You shouldn't make such a large generalization when it's not true.

    • @SimonKim1129
      @SimonKim1129 Před 9 lety +43

      justine d I'm Korean and I've never been served those larvae things. Some of those dishes were eaten wrong. I would never eat those leaves without rice. Side dishes are often eaten with the rice. It's why they are so spicy and sour. It compliments the rather plain taste of rice.
      I'm pretty sure they have a Korean in Buzzfeed but they still didn't serve it right.

      I can't reply to the other reply on my phone app. But raw kkaennip (perilla leaves) can be eaten as a wrap, in a salad, and in stirfrys. The seasoned one as shown in the video is basically perilla leaves spread thinly with a spicy(kind of) hot pepper paste (not gochujang) and then it's marinated in boiling hot soysauce.

      Thought the same; I only had it once, and then it was wrapped around steamed rice. Not my favourite, but ok. Pork feet actually are also like very much here; however they're usually served with the rest of the pork's cartilage parts(snout, ears, ect) simmered in pea soup. Oh, and when we're at the feet: calf feet, simmered in broth, the classic Italian dish 'ossobuco'

    These foods aren't even typical side dishes in Korea, in fact some of them are not even side dishes at all!! Buzzfeed always picks the most unrepresentative and exotic foods from a culture to provoke some crazy reactions from the people in the video. I'm Korean and have never ever seen bundehgi (the pupa) at a restaurant. Typical side dishes would be kimchi, bean sprouts, fish cakes, little anchovies and fermented cucumbers. Buzzfeed, please choose foods that are more representative of a culture next time. These videos give people the wrong idea of a culture... I swear people probably think Koreans eat pupas and clear jelly all day lol which they definitely do not.

      +Jimin_A_K Perilla Leaves are too salty and strong of a flavor to eat alone. You need to eat it with rice to balance out the taste. Bean Jelly is a common side dish in Korea so I can give a pass on that. But I do have a problem with the Pig's Feet and Pupae: They are Vendor Foods rather than your traditional Korean food. It's still a popular food in Korea, but you would normally never see anyone eat these as a Side Dish.
      They could have shown us more of traditional foods like Kimichi, Spicy Cucumber Salad, Sauteed Cucumber, Korean Fried Pancakes, Braised Eggs, Rolled Egg, Beansprout, Fishcakes, Glass Noodle Stir Fried, Seasoned Spinach Salad, Stir Fried Pepper's and Anchovies, Simmered Lotus, Fried Tofu, etc.
      There is a whole variety of choices they could have gone with, but I guess Buzzfeed is Buzzfeed.

    its almost like they only picked food that are either difficult to eat or are acquired for certain people. also those arent common nor eaten properly. i dont like how any of the videos on buzzfeed properly display anything without a set bias or correct research on its culture. its quite offensive the way this was conducted. its not offensive that they didnt enjoy the food since it wasnt even properly served and everyone has their own opinion on food, but offensive bc (im assuming) they did this to cause a stir. just please stop buzzfeed. i was looking forward to this video bc i thought it was gonna further the korean culture and spread it to foreigners but no.

    I'm a foreigner living and working in South Korea (2 years now). We have acorn jelly ALL the time as a side dish at our school lunch's. I've had jokbal, but I don't see it very often other than at Lotte Mart or some place. One of my Korean BBQ places has 양념게장 and I honestly had no idea you were supposed to just eat the whole thing. I usually pick the meat out and eat that . . . .
    I've seen 번데기 (Bundaegi) at quite a few places. I tried it once just for the sake of trying it. I have heard as well, from my co-workers and Korean students, that they don't care for it much and the older generation likes it more.
