The best advice I ever got: tack down ribbon with craft glue sticks instead of pins. So much easier to sew and the lines end up cleaner for me. I use the kind that washes out with water, it works great and comes out nicely just with hand washing.

Ann, you may not have had the ribbons well attached to the fabric before you began sewing. Try gluing your ribbon onto the fabric next time. Use a glue stick (cheap option) or “5o5 spray” (pricy option) to hold the ribbons in place before sewing.

If you did not prewash all of your fabric & ribbons they can shrink by different proportions. Prewash everything before you start.
Make sure your sewing machine tension is well set & threads lay evenly on both sides of the seam.
