I had to delete my comment after reading this.
So many people got angry that nib wasn’t on here that loudwire had to make a statement lmao
Ah, so ya'll know that you fucked up?
make another one and put slipknot mfkr album confessions in the name of Paul Gray RIP
“ *Top 15 Times Loudwire F**ked Up* ”
Just 50 years old, I rely only on expensive hearing aids, I've lost 95% of my hearing in my left ear, about 85% in my right ear, since it's heredetarily progressive I'll be completely deaf in about 6-8 years . I'm going to spend those years listening to metal.
Dude, your a real metal fan! and more people need to see this, best of luck!
Andrew Brown What sucks is knowing that I'll spend probably 15-20 years of my final days unable to listen to music, metal has been with me my entire life, got me through a lot of rough shit, gonna be tough relying on memories to listen to in my head. It really makes me appreciate it that much more.
Grind on
brutal
This makes me realize how much I take my hearing for granted
Bro the fact Orion's bass solo is not here is criminal, that's the most beautiful piece of music on bass I have every heard.
I completely agree, it's definitely one of my favorite bass lines of all time 🔥🔥
Probably beause wasn't played live
It doesn't compare to these
@@AlfieForrester because it's infinetely better?
@@Necro-s No
3:57 watch Lars completely miss the cue from Cliff, classic...
Hahahahahahhahahaha
Never noticed that before. Always wondered why cliff made that gesture
he did it in for whom the bell tolls live too
If Lars were a meal, he'd be a 2 hour cooked steak: takes forever and isn't worth it
@@recklessgamingandmusic571 that's where I first saw lars miss the cue and I was like hmm I wonder if he misses it in FWTBT
What is your best bass solo
Cliff Burton: yes
Yes
That was the only bass solo I was watching the video for, Cliff was the God of bass;)
Oh boi yes
Cliff's one of the worst on the list lol
I knew that Cliff will be there .
”Top 10 bass solos”
*plays guitar riff as intro*
It was top 15 actually
SpecialDetermence I was thinking the same thing lmao
"Top 15 bass solos"
*comments Top 10 bass solos instead*
R/facepalm
That's the intro in every of their videos. 🤦♂️
If this list was of Watchmojo, Flea would be number 1 "metal" bass
nop.... black sabbath would be the number 1 metal "bass"
@@rahar_peru it was a joke
As an actual female bass player, and REGARDLESS of what genre flea plays, he's one of the best and grooviest bassist out there. I guarantee you he can tackle metal without an issue. Not disagreeing with you, just saying, he's one of the best. ANY ACTUAL bass player will recognize this.
P.s. this channel always puts metallica in 1st. Is that any better? Yeah they'd be consider metal but they're VERY mainstream. And there's much better bassists than him, including flea.
Michelle Aguirre to say that flea is a better bass player than Cliff Burton or Jason Newsted is a bit of stretch no? Also no, Flea does not play metal. Sure he could give it a shot, but that’s not the genre of music that he excels in.
What a good bassist can do for a band is sadly often overlooked by many.
That only rings true for Rock and Metal. For example, Funk and Jazz bands fully depend on a good bassist.
EDsavant Yes! Not so much an added shredder, but the value of a bassist who plays with a good, fat, tight sound, and knows what to play and when to play it is wildly overlooked. Look at Rex from Pantera. He never complained about basically just following Dime's riffs, and always came out to the forefront when they needed it.
So true EDsavant. Sadly this is partially due to the legion of shitty bass players that crowd the music scene.
I hate it when people say bass is useless but complain when its not there (and justice for all- metallica)
@@maxdurk4624 If a bassist is more creative as the guitarist to make some great, tasty and memorable bassline or solo like guitarist do,then probably they won't get overlooked by people.Just look at Steve Harris from Iron Maiden. But I get it it's heavy metal. If it's thrash metal then most of the times you couldn't hear the bass as thrash metal is more about creating heavy riff based song which is more to do with guitar than bass.
I think if cliff was around today, his bass playing would've been even more fantastic
If Cliff was still here. Metallica might actually been good now.
@@olafvanrijnsbergen1177 Hardwired and Death Magnetic are great but ok.
@@bruhmomentum7055 imagine hardwired with cliff bass solos
@@olafvanrijnsbergen1177 love this comment.
They phoned it in but ok
No one's talking about Lemmy's solo, i'm very happy about Stay Clean honestly:(
Best solo on the list
Others are fast, but lemmy's solo creates an orgasm.
Never found a tab that is actually correct
It's wonderful, really.
Lemmy sucks lololo
3:59 proving that sometimes bass and drums is all you need
And sometimes Keyboard
Hell yeah
Bell witch
Bass player story: When you do a solo and the accompanying instruments make more noise than yours
Then you have to make an excursion to other genres... soul/funk/jazz... ;)
The tone of that bass in Hammer Smashed Face. Orgasmic.
Fatih Alex Webster never gets brought up enough in the "great metal bassists" discussion
Is Hammer Smashed Face on the list? Damn, that's not a fucking solo
shame the drums and vocals of cannibal corpse sound like shite compared to the godly bass and guitar sounds
Not a bass player here, but a guitarist that greatly appreciates bassists, and as often it is said, that tone definitely sounds heavily reliant on his hands
Fatih amazing
That beyond creation bassist is seriously underrated
I would say hes not underrated because he made it onto a loudwire list. Their lists usually only include the most popular or iconic examples.
Forest is so fucking fantastic. All the bands he is in, he writes absurdly stunning parts
He's underrated compared to any famous metal bassists, but is basically considered as a bass god in extreme metal. And for good reasons of course, his basslines are insane!
Oh no he's not. He's right up there.
He's actually not their bassist anymore
1:53
Am I the only one that heard an audible "DENG" in there?
no
BRBR Deng
Walrus Junior BrBr Deng?
BR BR DENG
Dig - Mudvayne
RYAN?????
quite a few of these aren't even really solos. awesome complex bass lines yes. should've been titled best bass leads.
I was actually mad, some I could barely hear.
Glad someone said it.
Cliff doesn't even sound like he's playing a bass! That's pure raw talent!
Predagirl 89 And an effects pedal. But 99% irreplaceable, legendary talent.
Actually its a lot of practise. Five hours a day he said.
Listen to Primus. Les Claypool is 10000 times better than Cliff
@@boreal8631 Man, Cliff played almost not watching the bass, and shook his head like a beast. It's much more difficult than the way Claypool plays. At the same time, Cliff was 24, and Claypool is about 50. Les had 30 years of practice, which Cliff didn't have. But truly, both are incredible bassists.
@@Lastrightss Yes but cliff could really only play one style. Les can play any genre lol. Cliff wasnt the best in history lol
Anesthesia is truly the greatest bass solo in the history of metal. Cliff left behind a great legacy. Cliff put Metallica on the map. R.I.P Cliff Burton
100% agree, I love Cliff and I'll sit and listen to Anesthesia and Orion on repeat for hours, truly great bassist
It's one of the best of all time, and possibly the most ground breaking of all time.
I strongly disagree. Anesthesia is very clearly the greatest bass solo of all time, not just in metal history
@@zer0deltav367 Yeah Orion is actually melodic and intricate it qualifies as music more than the 300 notes per second carbon copy drivel, it took me aaages to learn the bass interlude in Orion it is rhythmically and melodically unique he could read music and held Bach in esteem, I think he would be happy that people still listen to his bass playing 33 years later
Laughs in manowar and lemmy
Hammer Smashed Face's bass solo is short but great, i wish it was longer tho
the guitar riff is actually the same when it hits. so its not a solo but a riff
Hell yeah me too buddy
Miss shag Stars
its a riff tho
Tapping solo by Myung into the Metropolis Pt.1: the Miracle and The Sleeper just awesome, dude!
It's need to be in this top list
yeah i agree with you
Let's be honest now, this could have been a top 15 dream theater bass solos.
Yeah, dance of eternity is great but Myung definitely has better solos. Ytse Jam, miracle and the sleeper, panic attack and more
All 15 could have been Myung's parts, but that would make for a boring video lets face it XD
Glenn fricker is gonna hate me but some of them need to turn up their basses.
True dat
Fuck that guy
why would he hate you?
@@uhh4312 he would hate me because he doesnt seem to like bassists and wants to keep them turned down.
@@dillondavis9631 he hates bassists that came to his studio and cant play their instrument so in this case he would have no problem
Thank you. #1. LONG LIVE CLIFF!
Glad to see Stay Clean on here. Lemmy's bass is nasty on that song.
my heart melted when i saw cliff at #1
Peter Steele was an amazing bass player. *RIP Green Man.*
Peter Steele - great basslines, unique tone, beautiful voice, amazing songwriter...but he never had any shredding bass solos that stood out. Memorable bass lines yes but nothing appropriate for this video. RIP Green Man 💚🖤
If anesthesia isn't number 1 I'm murdering the entire Loudwire cast.
Edit: You're safe for now.
Im higher than a metal bass players strap
Norwegian Dick I’m lower than Jason’s bass on and justice for all
But are you higher than a jazz bassist's strap
Cereal421 no Im 173"
Peter steel??
Rob Trujillo is offended by this comment
There will never be enough love for John Myung. Most underrated bassist of all time.
Nah he's boring just like the rest of Dream Theatre. He can play well but my god is he boring.
What about death's bassist no one talks about him
Steve Di Giorgio is an excellent bassist. Way more underrated than John Myung.
@@adriantaylor5778 that's an opinion though and that shouldn't discredit his skills in any way. There is nothing objectively boring but if there is, his playing isn't it
@@someperson9052 Nah he boring.
That bAss on Omnipresent perception is insane !!! Thanks for the top!
I love the way Cliff just went like 'What you waiting for' at Lars
Number 1 will ALWAYS be Cliff, but seriously? No Geezer Butler playing NIB??? Come on that's number 2 worthy
fck off cliff is so overrated
Cliff will be the best bassist in the world, nobody can do tapping in these times like Cliff
Cigar, It's an intro and not a solo, there is a video with greatest bass intros where NIB is number 6 or something.
I don't think you know a lot of bands except metallica lmfao
Satakor Dying Fetus have also a Bassist that plays tapping, but in 1983 nobody was better than Cliff.
How ironic that Steve Harris wouldn't make it to any of these tops
Steve Harris doesn't need to be on a list , he is the gold standard .
gabriel barblay that I said ???? Steve Harris ???? Come on ? The book souls ??
Corey michael does he have actual bass solos in there?
In what way is it ironic?
qdaveq ironic because he was influence to most of these bassists and he really doesn't have many, and the few he has, aren't really that memorable
If there’s no Geezer on the list this isn’t a real true best bass solos.
What I’m saying
You are correct, sir. I see a gentleman of great taste. No one lays grooves like Geezer.
That hammer smashed face bass part will never fail me no matter how many times I hear it.
The day Lemmy died, I told myself that whenever I drink I will drink to his memory even if I don't remember it. Rest in peace, God of Metal.
Remembering it, Post? ;)
I'm pleased that Symphony X and Dream Theater were included on this list. They don't get enough attention.
my jaw dropped when I saw Symphony X on here. Gotta say the intro to Damnation is better though
They play like the want attention.. wheres the music.
@@instaman34 ???
Wait, dream theater doesn't get enough attention? They're the biggest prog metal band in the entire world.
Henry Walton I guess they don’t get enough attention in other cliques, though I do hear about Petrucci a decent amount. For good reason, the mans a beast. On the topic of bass, Myung should be recognized more.
before I watch, “The Philosopher” by Death should make this list
I was right 😂
No NIB? Disrespectful
No intros on this list. We already did that one! czcams.com/video/sdXhNA1378E/video.html
Loudwire 😐
@@LoudwireMusic it's still a solo mate.
TFO: Cyborg no it’s not a solo...it’s an intro
@@kxngisaiah1924 so that makes it any less than a solo? It's still a solo. It's placing doesn't make it not a solo.
I'm really happy Cynic is on the list. The Lion's Roar is one of the songs that made me pick up bass.
Recently transcribed/learned it, even into almost 5 years of bass experience it’s such a fun and beautiful song
Many people forget how great of a bass player Lenny Klimister was RIP Lemmy
Sadus - Torture is a great example of pure bass shredding. Steve Di Giorgio is an absolute madman. At least The Philosopher was included on here to give him some well-deserved glory
Steve did his best on overactive imagination, but it's not really a solo, just very difficult rhytm section, so I think Phillosopher is best pick. Yeah I know this comment is 4 years old
Becoming the dragon from Paolo by Trivium?
The best bass solo
Deserves to be here, or at least an honorable mention
For sure
Torn between Scylla and Charybdis or Incineration could easily make it as well. Sucks that Paolo(and Trivium) is so underrated.
EUW Roxas yeah but do those song even have bass solos? Im sure they have a small part because they usually do that but do any of them have a long one?
Between the buried and me has some awesome bass playing!
Yeah boi
Dan Briggs is the man.
Dan Briggs is a beast.
That's all they have.
I listened to that Parallax II album. It sucked so much ass and I wasted so much time listening to that garbage. How they be trying THAT hard to be Dream Theater is beyond me
Sees Omnipresent Perception at #15: "How is this so low on the list?"
Watches rest of video: "ALLLLRIGHTY THEN!!"
This list is an insult to half the bassists featured.
Cliff burton being number 1 makes me love him even more RIP Cliff Burton
I know that putting metallica on this list twice would bring you hate,
But the solo from *Orion* deserves a high spot on this list
PS: After reading the comments. Yeah, fuckin N.I.B is missing, I knew something was wrong
You damn right anesthesia is number one
Metallica: for whom the bell tool live at oakland 31 aug 1985
I love that one.
I only clicked on this because of John Myung.
Same haha
Same
John Myung brother of Herman Li XD
Dreamers yeah👍👍
Lemmy. No fifth string, no tapping, no string skipping... pure, straight forward rock n roll groove!
Yep. And was it a solo really?
*no slap
@@casesuit Pastorius couldn't do slappin at that time...
I’m not gonna complain about no Claypool
Because the title says Metal bass solos. I don’t consider Primus a metal band.
Well, thank _fuck_ we all now know what you don't consider Primus to be. I was starting to worry.
I’m happy you are now at ease, and the point you have made has absolutely made my day.

Orion ia better

04 by Gojira is pretty dope too, I actually didn't know it was played on a bass until I looked closer at the song 🤘
Loudwire, you never disappoint me with your number 1's. Great list
Iron Maiden's Only the Good Die Young has a great bass solo by Steve Harris
Agreed! Extremely underrated song!
oxygala come on your right where Steve Harris
May sound kinda like a mainstream comment, but that tiny Steve solo on The Number of The Beast is awesome, my favorite part of the song.
Props for including Cryptopsy!
Anthony Showalter mad props
Benedictine Convulsions anyone? Not a bass solo, but some incredible basswork anyway.
Where’s Davie504!? :O
Matt Genua too bad he's not in a metal band x)

Matt Genua send him the link of the video and that comment :'')
Very impressive, but can you use a different chord progression and key so all of your music doesn't sound like a continuation of the last? Very impressive, but can you also do something other than slap since it gets really old really quick?
Matt Genua JAJAJAJA, nope
I'm so happy that Obscura solo made it on here! Soo damn good I love it
Now this does put a smile on my face
Paolo Gregoletto - Becoming the Dragon and The Crusade
Les Claypool - Quite a few Primus songs
John Myung - Metropolis pt 1
Sean Malone - Veil of Maya
David Ellefson - The Skull Beneath the Skin, Chosen Ones, Take No Prisoners
Juan Alderete - Scarified
Dean Dell - Mentally Afflicted
Adam Duce - I'm Your God Now
Steve Di Giorgio - Cosmic Sea
Greg Christian - Disciples of the Watch, Souls of Black

Dave ellfson for me💖💖
@@alenjansyimz7084 Dave Ellefson and Cliff Burton kick ass.
I'm glad to see John Myung on this list! But I'd have chosen Metropolis Part I instead of The Dance of Eternity, both are really good bass performances though.
It's a crime that you didn't put Trivium's Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis in this list.
Hosein Moghavemi or becoming the dragon!
yeah! that song got a killer bass solo tho.
Or becoming the dragon and incineration: the broken world
Hosein Moghavemi

My guys you can’t take forests solo and cut it by two thirds when it’s arguably the most unique on the list
Absofuknlutley. Forest rules the roost!
It is so killer! that Cliff is number one. No one gets me more pumped up in playing my bass guitar than this honorable and memorable metal head! Go!
My name is MUD!!!...

primus SUCKS
Primus sucks
Primus might suck, but Les Claypool can play the hell out of that bass

As a bassist this was very satisfying
"Slipping Away" from the album Mob Rules.
Wasted Years? Got The Time? N.I.B.? Pictures Of Home?
pictures of home- deep purple? oh waiiit, i totally forgot
Cesare Francesco Riggi better bass solo in stranger in a strange land in the same album!
Make your own list
well, i feel like the part on Wasted Years wasn't really meant as a bass-solo, but more as a very melodic bassline to build up for the guitarsolo. you can hear he continues to do crazy-fast stuff during the actual guitar-solos too
N.I.B is on the Bass intros list
Now i love bass even more
Just imagine if cliff still alive. What else he could do
None dares to touch him
I was so glad to see Viridian by BTBAM on here! Why isn’t anyone talking about Viridian?!
"dance of eternity" solo is second on the list, yet i never found a correct tab. Anyone seen one or knows how to play the solo?
You can watch the Felipe Andreoli's channel, bassit of Angra. There's a cover of this music.
Cliff burton for the win
Cliff Burton IS the win!!
Anyone who thinks the bass guitar is easy try it. I got some old bass tab for Metallica's first 3 albums and my forearms were on fire trying to keep up with a pic. How Cliff played it with his fingers gives me a whole new respect for just how great he was.
Anything by Cliff
Devil Woman? We Don't Talk Anymore? I could go on........
Like Battery? Oh Sorry he´s not credited on that song
Fight FIre with fire then... Oh shit he´s credited in that one for guitar

Was getting seriously worried at the lack of John and Cliff and then it was remedied. The Dance of Eternity has to be one of the most difficult things I've heard regardless of instrument because of the immense number of time changes and Anaesthesia is simply the greatest piece of bass playing I've heard in the 3 and a half decades of listening to metal 🙂

Of course, NIB. But I've also always loved the bass part after the guitar solo in Run to the Hills. I don't know if it counts as a solo but it's a damn fine run on the bass.
Lenny played the bass like a guitar a true icon
Billy Sheehan just told me he just yawned!
He didn't yawn @ Cliff...he ran!
Cliff all the way! Cliff 'em all!!!
You can hardly hear it but the bass solo in “detharmonic” by dethklok is beauty
Thanks for putting Lemmy on here. Love that solo
The most iconic part of the Cliff solo is how Lars missed his cue and Cliff visibly is like, "what the fuck?"
Peace Sells and N.I.B...
Peace Sells is a Riff and not a solo... NIB is just unforgivable
TheRockstarr33 both intros not solos
James V NIB is a solo, it just happens to also be an intro.
Peace sells doesn't have a solo, dos it?
Number 3 is what I'd call a real bass solo, played with pitch perfect technique while keeping the feel, not playing 1000 notes in 30 seconds to feel like a god just because you're fast. Speed ain't all, really.
Cliff Burton was the 1st thing that poped in my head when i saw the title
MadMan666 Alive He was #1 on the list.
