At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far northern Winter, she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5, she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids was the first to recognize something special in this little girl, and eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak without impediment.
Only two years later she started singing in local theater, and in street plays and performances. And soon after was entered in a Russian TV music competition for disadvantaged children. By the age of 10, she was winning local competitions, singing on live TV shows, and her songs started showing up on CZcams.
Two weeks ago, at the age of 18, her first performance during a new Russian television competition with several other renowned performers, has gone viral and has garnered hundreds of CZcams 'reaction' videos, and millions of viewers. Her first song at the competition, an entirely new take on Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling in Love with You' has been called mesmerizing, transcendental, and other-worldly...it highlights her uniquely deep voice, and effortless range from low to high, along with her trademark dramatic and passionate interpretation.
Diana Ankudinova sings mostly in Russian, English, and French. She has also sung in other languages including Spanish, German, and Arabic.
Singing in French, at the age of 10, on a Russian TV show... a viewer: 'at the age of 5 she couldn't speak her own language, how can one see this and still doubt past lives?':

Nope...haunting is the only way to describe it. She was in danger of making it sound too much like her version of Wicked Game but she did a great job of keeping it just fresh enough. Goosebumps every time I hear her.

I hear Elvis has come back from the grave to meet our vocal goddess. My word Schnell, the power behind her. Why is this not on the radio. This is superior to the original . Love your reaction. She is 18 here and that is considered early in her development as a singer, but I believe she is already a true polyphonic contralto {rare}, with an amazing range and control. As she matures as a singer, I hope she will be able to transition into a full dramatic contralto {very rare}. The judge standing on the top row with the beard and tears in his eyes is Yusif Eyvazov who is married to Anna Netrebko, both well-known and respected opera singers. What does it say about her performance if she could move him to tears? Etta James, Cher, and Christina Aguilera are all good examples of modern contraltos. It is hard to compare them with Diana because it would often come down to song selection and arrangement.

Hey Schnell, hope the baby is doing great. Diana is on Russian TV every Saturday for two months. She is uploading all her performances on her official CZcams channel. Last Saturday she just sang a A 300 year old Russian Cossack song called "Oh, it is not yet evening", about a dream of a Cossack vision of impending doom. Diana brings the house down. She belts in her lower register at the end and it's just amazing. Diana provides good English subtitles as well.

It's almost like the person was talking to themselves in the beginning, pondering their immense love, but making an effort to hold themselves together. Gradually, their senses are overwhelmed by it and their control begins to crack. They MUST shout it to the heavens and express that passion or be rendered mute by its power. as a reactor myself I found this to be a most epic performance on the level of some of the best vocal performances out there, I think this is diana's greatest performance, everything she does is amazing but this is on another level even for her, I put this up there with some of the best vocal videos i have watched on par with when i first watched dimash sos, angelina jordan, and nightwish ghost love score amazing love music discovery through reactions
and i think listening to the judges comment were as heartwarming as the performance itself, to hear the judges thoughts and feelings of what they just heard was awesome, make sure to watch cause you didnt in the reaction

She has all the songs on her account now, the next one you should react to is an upbeat song called “Mom I’m dancing” it will have English captions because it’s on her site. It's good to see how talent shines when given opportunity in professional enviroment.
She already trained her voice even further at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) in Moscow where she studies, yet
she is still super young (18), and personal experience cannot be exchanged with the very much always needed learning, doing drills after drills after drills (Like Dimash).
So in this way it is good she can experience so many cool performances first hand, live, inspired, and also singing 9 songs from different genres will be challenging but rewarding in the long term.
Some details of this performance:
The ShowMaskGoon is a new TV show on Russian NTV channel, every saturday (6 episodes left, 3rd already aired), where best/winners of 3 music shows (The Mask, You are Super, Superstar) perform, and vote giving 2 to 9 points to each other at every episode's end.
So those sitting up there are the other singers, Diana sits with them when others perform. Plus the guest star of each episode, this time it was Yusif Eyvazov (opera singer, tenor, he stood up during the performance).
They got only one 9 point, one 8 point, etc. So they are forced to give 2 points to someone, and they wont vote for themselves.
She got 7x 9 points, 1x 8 points this round. The guest star of this episode gave 1 point to everyone equally = 72 total.
In each round, the participants will be offered nine topics: for example, one will perform a folk song, the second - a song by a Grammy award winner, the third - a rock hit , etc. "
The nine categories are: "People's Hit", "Song of the End of the 20th Century", "Soviet Song", "Hit from Every Iron", "Song of Your Choice", "New Music", "Song from a Movie or Cartoon",
"Rock Hit" and "Songs of the Grammy Award Winners and Laureates".
This song in this first show is for the last category "Songs of the Grammy Award Winners and Laureates".
