If anybody wonders about the always changing delaytime of the TC Nova Delay:
It is special to the Nova, that its "Delay" knob is on "hold" on the 12-o-clock position.
Being apart from that position it increases or decreases delaytime. More off is more faster.
To stop it from travelling, you have to turn it back to the 12h position. Cheers!

      Challenge accepted! 🙂
Nova Delay has nine memory presets:
      P1 to P9.
If you press the button "preset" once, you are in preset mode. Now everytime you press preset button shortly again, you cycle through all the memorized presets from one to nine.
(What ever I explain to you next, please also read the pasted exerpt of the manual - down below at the end - about the two "preset" states, controlled by the "type" button! Maybe this kinda solves the riddle already...)
      Routine 1:
Given, you are in "preset mode":
If you alter parameters of a selected preset now, you can store this variation in two steps:
      1st step:
(that´s the secret, not clearly written in the manual/read edit down below)
At first holding down "type" button for a moment, until green "preset button"-led blinks slowly (*)!
      Release "type" button.
      2nd step:
Now just hold down the "preset button" for about 4 seconds long, until the three "mod style" LEDs blink one time after another in a row.
(*) if that leads to a sudden change of the delaytime, from manual section, tweak wished delaytime back again.
EDIT: Important - I found an explanation on page 15 of the manual, that explains the behaviour - there´s a choice!
I paste it for you down below my comment here!
I prefer Routine 2: Storing direct from manual mode.
(But still please read excerpt of manual down below!)
      Routine 2:
You can store ALL currently active parameters, when you are in "manual mode" !!! (whatyouheariswhatyoustore). Just press "preset button" for about four seconds.
But the thing is, that it overwrites the last preset, that was active, when you had been in the preset mode.
      In other words:
If you want to be sure, which exact preset number you gonna overwrite with your current manual delay-setting,
then first please select a preset in "preset mode".
      Let´s say, for instance: "P3".
After that, you go back to "manual mode" and do all the tweaks to your liking!
Ok, let´s say, you like your delay-setting, because its awesome, and you are still in "manual mode":
Now just press "preset"-button for 4 sec. until those LEDs once blink.., and it will be stored into "P3"!
So, everytime you want to play that memorized preset you just created, go back to "preset mode" and push the preset button repeatedly until the display reads: "P3" - and there you should have it.
      Hope that helps, cheers, Marco!
      --------------------------------------------------------------------------
BTW: I prefer the TC Nova Repeater over the ND-1 for it´s better and simpler user interface - (but not only).
Sure, it´s got no memory, but that´s fine for me, I don´t need it personally.
Only drawback is that the Repeater has got no Stereo Ins, so I´m keeping my Nova Delay only for stereo keyboard stuff..
      ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
HERE THE ND-1 MANUAL, PAGE 15 pasted!!:
      "Tap Tempo Modes
The Nova Delay always has one global tempo. This
tempo is either tapped in via the TAP TEMPO switch,
audio tap or dialed in via the DELAY knob.
      Manual mode
In manual mode it is always the global tempo that
      applies.
      PRESET MODE:
When switching from manual mode to preset mode
you can set up WHETHER it is the delay time stored in
the preset OR the global tempo, that should apply. (!!!)
As explained earlier the actual delay time also
      depends on the selected sub-division.
To switch between using the stored delay time or the
global tempo when entering preset mode:
      • Go to preset mode by pressing PRESET.
      • Press and hold “TYPE” for 1 second. (!!!)
      - STEADY preset key LED indicates that you are
      using the global tempo. (!!!)
      - FLASHING preset key LED indicates that you are
USING THE STORED DELAY TIME." (!!!)

These "new and notable" videos are my favorite thing here. I get to know what is new but most importantly what is "notable" because there must a new guitar pedal coming out every hour or so. Also i know that i'll get to hear how they honestly sound because you guys do this for fun, unlike so many guitars channels who only worry about what free stuff they will get from companies. But of course above everything else i love these videos because you guys are awesome, as usual 🙂

Addison, my "perfect overdrive" is 2 pedals together. A Catalinbread Epoch Pre (discontinued) and a Greer Lightspeed. They sound great together. I leave the Epoch Pre always-on at the edge of breakup, and use the Lightspeed to push it over the edge. These are usually going into an AC-style amp, but they sound good in cleaner platforms too.

I settled on an mi audio super crunch box v2. I tried the Friedman BE and dirty Shirley pedals a bunch of others but I found the switching on the mi audio SCB v2 did a lot of different things. It has 4 band eq bass mid treb and presence (it's a Marshall in a box pedal) gain and vol but the switches. 2 tri switches one is clipping level, like a headroom level hence affecting gain that way and the other switch is gain level. I can get clean boost to crunchy overdrives to high gain distortion.
My favourite clipping level is the open setting (very smooth but if you use your volume control it can blow your head off volume wise). It has the smoothest tone but hard to control volume wise. The highest gain mode on the other switch gets super smooth lead tones.
The middle clipping mode is the most user friendly in terms of controlling volume and you can set the gain switch to clean boost, crunch or high gain more to taste but the volume/gain cleanup roll is very controllable using the guitar vol pot. All the switches are on the outside so no need to open and adjust with trim pots to increase/decrease gain range and the clipping switch helps fine tune the response - all done with the switches.
I've heard it compared to the angry Charlie but with a 3 gain mode switch and a 3 clipping headroom switch, which allows it to get a huge variety of sounds.
    Hope that helps

Here's the gain stack, in order: the always-on pedal is a Blue Note; next is the Touch overdrive; and the amp-in-a-box is The Dude. It's the sound I've been seeking for a l-o-n-g time. If you want lighter, sweeter overdrive, try the Cusack Screamer in the second position.

Adds a brightness and bandwidth toggle compared to the plumes, the latter of which boosts bass which is awesome for you guessed it, bass! Still a fantastic guitar pedal, it's a more versatile Plumes and versatility is what the Plumes is known for!

I was so glad you got rid of the PRS Silver Sky and grabbed the Bilt...I'm just not a fan of those guitars, I've watched a lot of review videos on em wanting to like em but I've yet to hear them sound good and I know it's not the tuning issue with the old strings making it sound bad to my ears, I think it's the pick-ups, they seem like a pickup that just doesn't know what it wants to be...they don't sound stratty, they don't sound like a tele but they exist in that plane of single coils that again, to MY ear, just don't know what they want to be and what they are isn't pleasant.

Dear Addison, my overdrive search ended with the Fender Smoulder. It’s an acoustic overdrive but i use it with electric. I would hope that Josh could analyze it and tell me what it is that makes me love it so much.

The Past FX Chorus Ensemble offerings would be my choice for drive as well to think outside the box. They have the standalone preamp but people would use their Bosses with output maxed as a secret weapon drive, and even Josh with all his pedals may not have a CE1 that's 100% functional

Leftfield suggestion for Addison: Ibanez Bass Stack. A Ratlike with clean bleed. Surprisingly good on guitar, and very expressive drive at low gain.
Second suggestion: Crowther Hotcake. Just joyful to play through. Almost every setting is sweet. Warm British blues through to Malkmus.

Dear Addison, what a great question, the overdrive that might feed your soul…
Dear Nick good point that he didn’t describe what he’s looking for at all at first lol
But to answer your question have you played with Nobels ODR-1? I am sure you have but you should revisit it. I recently got into it and love playing it. I think it really has a nice fuller sound and cool tone control.
My favorite always on overdrive for a while was Full-Drive 2 w Mosfet in “Comp Cut” toggle setting. The most clear biting tone.

As a Nova Delay owner, watching the pedal slowly reduce your delay time cuz' you're not on the delay time knob center detente, kinda' drives me a little crazy. Great sounding pedal, though, and I am very fond of the Nova Modulator, too.

    Hey Addison.
I've gone through so many overdrives and each time I think this new one is the one, I come across another pedal or go round in circles.
For a while now I've gone back to running a Ibanez Tubescreamer into a Fulltone OCD. Great combination, but also great on their own.

It would be SUUUPER cool if you did an episode showcasing Nick Greer's pedals - they are friggin' awesome. I have 4 of 'em and notable of those (for me) are the Relic Drive and the amp in a box Brown Bomber. Maybe you have more? Like the Sweetback Driver or something and/or all those other ones during his beginning "Sharpie era" days...

Addison: You described the Egnater Goldsmith overdrive perfectly. It's beautiful and utilitarian, simple yet complicated. You'll love it.

  • @marcofioravanti4176
    @marcofioravanti4176 Před 2 lety

To Addison: Maybe try the Hughes & Kettner "AmpMan Classic". So many options - it´s even a pedal board power amp.
Or just taylor the sound of your favourite drive pedal with an eq pedal "post drive". Typically graphic - or sth. else, even made by JHS, maybe.
That said - pedals (to me) are like colors on a canvas. If the canvas isn´t "right", ALL the other colors can´t be right.
So, if you are rather experiencing this, then your current pedal platform isn´t of the right choice - whatever it is now: amp, combo, DAW-stuff, etc.
Then you have to think this over and change it first.
