Stories of the headless horseman appear in various cultures around the world. Many are familiar with Washington Irving’s tale "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". With Irving coming from Scottish roots it’s likely that this bit of Celtic mythology passed to him through his father and inspired Irving in the creation of his own dark rider.
