    Thomas, thank you for the very detailed and relaxed presentation on the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 . I have a 2005 911 cabriolet and always wished I had bought the 2016 GTS, then they switched to 4 cylinders and that ended that dream. Watched this video when it first came out, was so impressed I went to local Porsche dealership and ordered a 2021 Guards Red GTS. This was of course before COVID-19 closed everything down, but got the order in. They told me car won't arrive until March 2021 but that is okay, gives me something to look forward to next spring! Thanks again for all your reviews, very much enjoy them.

    What a terrific video about a magnificent car. Thanks Thomas and it was an added bonus to have Mark Webber take a few laps. Carmine red with the red instruments looked awesome. If I was in a position to chose, it would be a Crayon 6-spd Manual GTS 4.0 Cayman no question. I do like the Cayman for very long time.

    Having had a 6cyl 987 with Fabspeed bypass exhaust I am now waiting for a 718T. Having driven several 718 cars I find the sound of the 4cyl different, naturally, but also pleasing. Besides there's no way I could swing the price of the GTS. The 987 2.7 was also gutless below 3000rpm and the 2.0 has an additional 60 hp. So I'm more than pleased and looking forward to the T.

    Nice Autogefuhl microphone cover! :D Thank you for another great video! I've been thinking about a 981 or 718 Boxster to replace my 2.5L 986, but after reading some owner comments, I'm a little worried it's not as "open" as the original (lower seating and higher doors / windshield so less in the open air). I enjoy the 986's 5 speed Aisin transmission much more than my 996's 6 speed Getrag because of the crispness of the shifter... by applying just a light constant force on the shifter, it moves into gear right when the RPM is matched, and I can dump the clutch - the 996 6-speed has so much non-rotating friction that it barely has any shifter feedback. Even my 1969 912's very long shifter (with a newer 914 transmission) has good shifter feedback.

    I love your reviews Thomas, they are thorough and honest. I must admit that they help me in making my decision, that was 1.5 year ago when I bought the 718 GTS 2.5 PDK Boxster and 2 month's ago when I signed up for the new BMW M135i. I am so happy with my 4 cylinder Porsche, the 6 cylinder version would not have been an option. Firstly for its price tag and secondly it is priceless in Belgium to get a big engine on the road. For the 4.0l, I would in a life span of 10 years pay almost 40000€ and for the 2.5l approximately 8500€ and for me is 30000€ still a lot of money. Don't get me wrong, I get the fuss about big engines, but they are too expensive on the road. And you must admit the 4 cylinder isn't that bad :)

      I agree. I just picked up the 2.5 turbo and everyone complaining about sound is absurd. If you don't like it, change the exhaust. I'd that's the worst gripe from people, they should just stop driving. I've driven the 6 and the 4, and naturally, there's a difference, but not enough to make me not buy either.

  • @johnkorrison4812

    Thomas, the correct and British term for rev matching is “double de-clutching” and especially rewarding if combined with the heel and toe technique although none of this is necessary anymore with modern synchromesh gearboxes in good condition🤓

    Best Cayman yet. Minus Ceramic Brakes, minus Sports Bucket Seats (Sports plus adequate), Minus Black Wheels (just have 20in spider wheels), to reduce price. Manual vs PDK is a toss-up. If you are blessed to live somewhere with good winding semi-deserted roads, manual for sure. If you live in a big city and use it as daily commute, PDK. Particulate filters, and Cylinder deactivation in Normal-drive mode, should make-up some gap in CO2 emissions for the additional 2 cyls and the bigger Engine displacement.

    Even given the absurd price, I think the 4.0 is still the best 718 to get, by far. It's more the ideal Porsche driving experience than the 2.5, which has totally different characteristics. I don't think the 2.5 is bad, by any means, but the 4.0 would definitely be my choice, although I'd go very light on the options to keep the price to a reasonable level. Excellent review, Thomas!

    Great review Thomas! Thanks. Can't decide which is best. 718 GTS 4.0 (maybe the best sports car set up) or 911 S / 4S (likely the most iconic sports car). And then there is the price.

    Thomas - curious how tall you are with relation to the three different seats you tried. If you were purchasing the 718 GT Spyder, which seat would you personally spec?

    • @autogefuehl

      I'd the the normal Convertible for better roof opening m8. And seats either base seats or the 1st bucket seat as I said. But probably it is always better to stick with the base seat

    Hey Thomas! I used your review to purchase the car I currently have, the 981 GTS and once again, you produce another spectacular review. I was wondering what your opinion is of the GTS 4.0 to the 981 GTS. Would it be worth upgrading or should I stick with what I have right now?

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  Před 4 lety +3

      thanks! The 718 is just a major facelift of the 981, I don't see any significant reasons for you to change - unless having Apple CarPlay would be the absolute game changer for you :)

      Autogefühl thank you for responding. Apple CarPlay is not significant enough for me to consider upgrading at all. I’m looking forward to hearing your review on the pdk variants when they come. Looks like I’m holding onto my guards red GTS :)

    Very nice review indeed! But if we think about this, if new 4.0 NA6C engine is a "Baby GT3", then the old 2.5L 4C engine, would be a "Baby GT2RS"! Right? So, it really just come down, to whether you like GT3's high RPM, or GT2RS's performance and everyday usability. After all, they are all great cars. What do you think?
