No but seriously. I'd give up 15 dollars for this game. 60 dollars is like paying for a ufc ppv. It might be entertaining but then you realize you lost a lot of money. They call me Jack Sparrow. Except I can't on nintendo grounds. Sony too.
But yeah Mario Wonder is good but I can't say its better than New Super Mario Bros 2 on the 3ds. Thats what I played. Kind of. Honestly I never even viewed it as a real game. It was like a better mobile game. But I preferred some mobile games. Also had 3d land. Didn't really wanna play that either. I prefer mario kart to both. And Pixel Gun to both which is coming to pc soon. Play that.

as someone who liked the game, i came here expecting to be mad, but i agreed with most of the criticisms at the end. it's far from perfect but i still feel like i got my money's worth because it's a simple and fun game to pick up and play for a few moments. though i wouldn't expect nintendo to shake up their 2d mario formula by including deeper storylines and immersive atmospheres because simple things appeal more to the masses. it sucks but that's just how it is
Yeah it is a pretty classic formula. While playing the game I thought that maybe a fun pixar type narrative would've been a good match but that would probably fit better with a 3d mario game. I feel like the gameplay is good but the structure is annoying. And nintendo has brought up a good switch up with Mario maker which I really like.

Good assessment. 👍 I'm pretty sure that the hub world being annoying doesn't stem from the game's foundation being outdated though. I've played the renowned classic “Super Mario World”, and in it, Mario doesn't need to pay coins to unlock a path even once. During that game, you could instead discover hidden paths by finding secrets within some of the levels. I think that Nintendo aims to add more features in modern games, but evidently, this increase in quantity doesn't always lead to quality.

It’s not outdated, it’s just a game that you go back to every once in a while to play. I have a old Wii console and just recently I blowed the dust off of it to play some Wii sports with my family, we also have donkey kong return to the jungle witch in my opinion is peak.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder’s levels basically felt like those Super Mario Maker 2 title screen levels but with poorly executed gimmicks and enemies that were made in an AI generator. The Wonder Flowers basically just felt like an excuse for the level designers to not try with the level design tbh (cause why bother making a good level when you can shoe horn in a bad gimmick at the very end to break the pace of the level just cause)?
I have some big problems with Mario's level design, mainly being that rarely does anything ever progress or iterate. Ideas are made and put into the game and then they're just dropped. Older platformers did this a lot but there have been several franchises that did move on from this. Donkey Kong was one of the originals for pushing this type of level design, Rayman had a crack at it, Sonic even got a hold of it in the boost era, but Mario has never seemed to find its footing.
I haven't played Wonder but it doesn't seem to address this at all, at least from the little I've seen - and for 60 dollaredoos? No chance.

Heavy disagree on the 2D Mario being outdated thing. Sucks you came out of the game not finding anything memorable except like 3 things, but that honestly doesnt sound like a bad thing to me.
Maybe its just cuz i got terrible memory, loved Celeste and DK Tropical Freeze as much as the next guy but i only remember gimmicks from those games, not actual levels. Still enjoyed and had fun all the same though. The "memorability" complaint is something i hear for a lot of games and movies but i honestly dont get it. I never went in to feel impacted, i just wanted some goofy fun.

Loved the world map honestly. Bringing back interconnected levels that parallel the overworld is sick and im glad they brought it back. Never had a problem with it (although, i will admit, they had some useless tasks and that extra seed at the start of each world thing which was useless, never bothered me though).
And then with the game overs, never had one so I wouldnt know, but it looks like a typical platformer game over. I guess it could be annoying for some but im never bothered by it.
Overall, thought the game was great. Loved 100%ing it.
I do think the badge system could be better, and some of the overworld fluff could be taken out, but overall it was a great time :)
Lol that game over thing was a 10-8 by you. But in my defence I skipped most of the 1 and 2 star levels. But yeah a lot of it does come down to preference. Even though I did back up why I found the game to be forgettable, its valid that you would find it to be memorable. And its simply a fact that I personally remembered the locations in celeste. I'm glad you liked the game
When it comes to 2d platformers I'm surprised you didn't mention super meat boy. That game was fire

Yeah its kinda weird that people act like its the greatest game ever just because its not as copy paste as the new super mario games
I 100%'d the game and I'd like to reinforce some of your points and add a few as well.
The pacing is atrocious. In the post-game I had to farm flower coins, so I was spamming the same level over and over again. The wait in between doing the level was longer than the level itself. It's painful. It's also pretty bad if you want to 100% the game and you miss the top of a flagpole in a level; you have to redo the entire thing. You can't call the game seamless, that's for sure.
The boss battles suck. There were a couple cool looking fights, but nothing mechanically interesting. The constant repeats also sucked. I remember thinking that the repeated fights in Odyssey were bad, but here it's way worse. Bosses are probably my favorite part of any game, so this really hurt my experience.
Am I the only one that wanted more powerups? I saw the elephant in the trailer and I was excited to see what else was in the game, but... there's not really much else? Drill... bubble... fire... that's it? I know it's par for the course, but I still found it lacking. The badges were pretty lame for the most part and there's a "best badge" that makes the vast majority redundant, so that part was a bit disappointing too.
The difficulty is... actually pretty freaking difficult if you complete the post-game. The "final final" level took me like 3 hours, and it's like a 5 minute level. The last level had me pretty frustrated, but everything else ramped up to be a pretty nice challenge.
Overall, I think it was a good game... but not amazing. It looked good, it felt good, it sounded good... but yeah it's a relic. I think it's just barely worth the $60. How could it be when those indie titles are 1/4 of the price? Well, those are just ridiculously good deals. Wonder is a finished game and it's pretty fun, so I think it's fine burning some money for it.

2d mario is outdated thank you I was gonna get the game then I saw the completionist review and I was like 60 dollars for like 10 hours if do everything including replaying levels online.
You’re one of those people who think a game isn’t worth 60 dollars unless it isn’t 50 bajillion hours long.
Better have 10 hours of linear but fun game than 40 hours of an open world boring one

sonic mania kinda sucks, not gonna lie.
There is just no way to properly control your character through the levels and you don't ever know what lies ahead,
so it just feels like you are watching a slideshow, trying to avoid obstacles that materialize right in fron of your face.

@@slimer44producciones3 I admit confirmation bias is a very real thing and I am not immune to propaganda, but I find that especially as I get older there seems to be more and more people who fall into recency bias. people who like to praise hollow knight and Mario odyssey as "the best in their genres" without really giving that statement much of a second thought or looking into their progenitors.
so yeah, you're partially right. it COULD be that I just like seeing my own opinion echoed in someone else's mind, but it could just as well be that the surrounding populace on the consensus of a piece of media could be very young and ignorant.
