Only took one “free” sycamore tree myself. Never again! It was nice seeing you at Brad’s fellowship. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Dang, that is some nasty wood to split. Up here in Alberta the weather had been funky too. Fortunately the ground is still frozen so no mess in the yard although most of the snow had melted.
Weather has been the same here in southern Ontario. Freeze, thaw, rain, snow… my yard is either mud or sheer ice!
I’m 20 minutes from Niagara Falls and it’s the same here. Yards very soggy unfortunately.
That’s some tough stuff. But the Eastonmade made it happen. And of course with the help of Mr Scheib
We need a road trip. Gather up some more oak and red oak. Split now it'll be ready for next year sales. I don't know why but those are my favorite videos!
In your last video I said I had beech. But after watching you split this I realized I have the same type your splitting. Your lucky. I had to do mine with a 27 ton craftsman splitter. Needless to say it was a good time! 😂
The weather in NE Wyoming has been crazy too, temps in the 60’s and the sun is shining. Last year at this time it was in the -30’s with snow storm after snow storm so we are enjoying it while we got it because winter is not close to being over. Looks like everyone had a good time at the Fellowship despite the rain and the mud. Take care.
You can just hear how gnarly that wood is. The tall wedge looks like it works great
That tall 4 way was definitely the ticket! That is nice that you can lower it and just have a single knife or raise it for the for the four way. That wood looked like a work out. Your videos are the best!
Morning Scheib , that tall 4 way wedge is nice . It done a nice job on that gnarly sycamore !! 👍🏻🇺🇸
Looks like some wood I split. You done all hard work just well burn it in your wood stove. Definitely test out the 12-22. Keep up the good work.
No way am I considering sycamore after seeing how tough that is. Wow. Great video.
It's like a Sycamore tree spirals as it grows. Has tons on moisture as well. Once it is seasoned, it lights easy and burns hot. Great for getting the fire started. Not good for long burns. Impressive tree, but I have a love hate relationship with them. Tons of them grow here in SE Indiana. Great video.
Been down that road! Twisted Sister!
It only takes one time working with Sycamore😂 I wish I could have warned you! Take care Don👊🏻🍻🇺🇸
10k+ Great job Schieb🎉Thanks😊
That Sycamore makes me glad I live in Western Md. No doubt my lowly Husky 22ton would have a heart attack.
Speaking of ........ I've been waiting on the weather so I can get out back and replace the Control Valve Assembly and get back to splitting the remaining 7-8 cords of Black walnut.
@ 70yrs., I'm no longer in a rush.....
Don,says toot a Lu to the sycamore hope that he is still going to be your friend after he has fun with it 😮😊❤
I have only had sycamore once and that was before hydraulics. I will try it again if i ever get anymore..
Looks like elms's evil sister. Thanks for the video, I think I will declined any free sycamore.
Wow that sycamore is really gnarly but looks like the splitter handles it well with the four-way attachment.
Those notty pieces are great for night burning. I'm sure your buddy will like them for his boiler.
Im glad I missed the opportunity to get some sycamore!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
You weren’t kidding, that was some gnarly stuff! Great video Scheib
The tall 4-way made quick work of it. I love mine! Nice seeing you at the Fellowship Don! Have a great day!
Hello Scheib great video. You sound like Chuck he said he wouldn't do Scymore again either it wasn't a nice wood to split. Take care
Right on
That was some nasty stuff, well done, reminds me of some Elm I had to do by hand.. David UK.
Hi Scheib!!😀😀
That's some of the worst I have ever seen for splitting. Reminds me of black gum. I think I would just take the saw and noodle it into nice firewood pieces instead of trying to split it.
Take care buddy!!😀😀💚💚

I like your set up for changing out your box wedge. Thought a large wheeled engine hoist would do the job but your setup works great.
Darnit, Scheib!! You nearly broke my nose knocking that camera into my face...
I can’t believe you didn’t want to put that through the box wedge! That would have been a mess! 😂. That’s some tough stuff.
Wow on that Sycamore tree ...well that would be the last one that would ever come on my yard ...LOL
That sure is a GREAT machine !!!!
Definitely not getting bundle wood out of that Sycamore. Wow, I have never worked with it before.
Nasty wood to split buddy.guess you could say shieb sick of sycamore 😅
Man oh man that is some nasty nasty wood. You did a good job splitting it. Please keep up the good videos.
Man that looks even worse than Elm. That machine is a beast. Nice video!
Good use of the little winch. I have a boom for the back of a 1-ton flat bed that I have loaded some pretty heavy logs with that I plan to use for changing wedges when I get my 22-28.. And wow, that sycamore is nasty.
Zacchaeus may have been a wee little man, but that sycamore is no joke of a tree to split up😂
hi there so what your sawing is Sycamore is your favorite wood. good job ,best to all , john
Anytime I had opportunity to get sycamore I passed after the first time.
Hate it!!
Note to self… no sycamore!!😂👍👍
Scheib, where did you get those steel plate tongs for lifting that box wedge? Those are a must have with an Eastonmade.
That box wedge is really heavy, good thing you had that winch hoist. Sycamores always seem to be huge. That is some extremely nasty wood.
That sick more was a workout.
Honestly I would have used the big sycamore for lumber or making furniture or slabs. This looks like a nightmare and hard on the splitter.
Geez, that is some nasty wood.
Sycamore is basically French braided wood. 😂
Good over night wood lol
Remind me to never cut down the sycamore tree out in my woods lol.
Because of the stringiness of Elm, it is my least favorite wood to split. It is followed closely by Sycamore and Sweet Gum. What are you three least favorites?
I’m 55 years old worked in the woods a better part of my life and I don’t believe I’ve ever ran across anything that splits that hard
The fellowship? You don't seem the church type to me, but, hey, God is good
👍🇨🇦, F Watch
That is some nasty stuff. I found some sycamore once that had been sitting on the ground for several years, split up really nice but anything green is so time consuming.
Genin I bet you leave it on the ground if you see any now. Lol
@@everettthompson8301 that’s right,I learned a few years ago not to bring home sycamore lol.
Any thoughts on the 6 way wedge that comes with this model?
The 6 way is great but it has its place for the right size wood I deal with a lot of big stuff so didn’t feel the need for the 6 way.
@@OutsidewithScheib if I got an extra wedge for bigger wood, would the tall 4 way or the box wedge be better
I got sycamore logs once and realized its not worth the effort. The wood burns like paper when its dry and it takes twice as much time to split.
SCHEIB sycamore wood 🪵 by the look 👀 make boiler or furnace splitting firewood 🪵. Look string like old blanket beaver 🦫 hair L 😊
how thick is wedge
1 inch
I thought elm was crappy to split
Sycamore is a good fire wood dries fast burns good a little ashy. Splitting with an axe is way easier then splitter. You work it out side in. It flakes off not as stringy.
That looks like some nasty stuff.
you like burning sycamore wood
COULD HARDLY HEAR YOU.
Yuk.
Thay wedge did much better.
That sure is some ugly wood.
That stuff looked ugly
Hello Scheib, the 4 way definitely is made for sycamore! Good Muck Boot dance at Brads!😂🪵🇺🇸
