Happy to see you love the special cuvee. I love Bollinger too.the NV It's just slightly above the price of other big maison but it is definitely worth the extra 10-20 percent

I very much enjoyed this video especially as my wife is now working at Moet Hennessy and we have moved to Paris as a result! Her introductory trip which I was fortunate enough to accompany her on was to Champagne during the 2022 harvest. We visited Krug and then stayed in the Veuve Cliquot Maison Hotel Du Marc followed the next day by Ruinart, Dom Perignon (the P2 was amazing) and then a night in Chateau du Saran which is the Moet & Chandon/DP Maison. Finally a visit to the Moet & Chandon factory. What struck me was the passion that everyone in champagne has for their work. I feel that over the years I have just not appreciated the actual champagne as it was always secondary to whatever the celebration was, but in actual fact these are very impressive wines with real complexity (albeit some more than others).

@@drmatthewhorkey and all those champagne houses said that 2022 was the best harvest of grapes, quality & quantity wise, in 50 years. Mind you, Frederic, chef de cave @ Ruinart says they still need to turn it into great champagne, but they are all super excited. We just have to be a little patient.

Definitely agree on Moët, it isn't up to much and is quite over priced. I've had a Cristal sitting for a few years and we keep promising to open it when something important happens, graduation, engagement, house purchase. Those have all happened and it's still there on the rack. Maybe the wedding day will be the one.

I'd go for smaller houses' vintage Champagnes as they might be a better bang for the buck than big house NV. I totally agree with Cremants are generally under rated and we're spoiled for choices ( d'alsace, loire, bordeaux, bourgogne etc..). I usually keep a bottle of Peller Estate Ice Cuvee in my cellar for drinking

    • @drmatthewhorkey

Best champagne I've ever had was Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill 2002.
Followed by Dom Perignon 2003, Krug (NV), Duval-Leroy Femme de Champagne 2000, Joseph Perrier Josephine 2002, Drappier Grande Sendree 2010 & Tsarine Tzarina Cuvee. Probably in that order.
Biggest disappointment was Louis Roederer Cristal 2004. Never been a massive fan of Veuve Cliquot NV. Massively overrated. Quite like Veuve's Rose though. Laurent Perrier Rose is nice enough but overrated (especially at the price point). Lots of better Rose Champagnes out there.
