I love hearing the way Aly encourages McKayla and Jordan before floor. She stepped up as leader here so wonderfully.
You can break any part of your body doing gymnastics. It's difficult and dangerous. That's why I admire every single gymnast out there, because they have unbelievable guts and toughness to do what they do. They are all great and brave.
The difference between the NBC and BBC on Catalina's floor routine:
BBC: She showed us what we all have missed! Triple twist, a bit leggy but who cares.
NBC: She has all her difficulty back, but the only areas, little bit of polishing in the tumbling passes, sloppy in the knees.
Sui Lu's routine is gorgeous.

At around 4:32, after Aly's routine and she's walking back to her team, you can see Tatiana Nabieva compliment her and Aly say "thank you". I love international friendships like that.

I think she meant if Aly needed to do any rotation in a pinch, she could. Obviously, Aly isn't best on bars. That is her weakness but if she needed to fill in, she could and she would hit. Aly handles the pressure really well.
I agree. She is a very solid gymnast, and I think her greatest qualities are her consistency and reliability, and her incredible mental toughness. But I really think she needs to work on her basic form.

@coconutmilkshakeXD Yeah, and additionally I think they choose a double pike over other D-rated dismounts for floor because it's easier to stick than a 2.5 twist and to maintain the form compared to a double tuck. I think it's chosen for beam often because it has an E rating, so gymnasts who would traditionally use a double tuck (which is rated as a D) can upgrade their difficulty while using a very similar style of dismount.

Dude it doesn't matter about difficulty and Jordyn Weiber's difficulty was way too low to score that high and Sui Lu had a ton of landing duductions

GO BETH!!! It's a shame she didn't make it to event finals but gosh....I have always loved her gymnastics. I WISH I could see her compete in her last olympics....alas....too expensive and far away :(

@coconutmilkshakeXD no its not required but does fulfill the difficulty rating that a dismount needs to not incur a deduction. they can also use it as a counted element to up the D score

@GymnasticsFan1144 You're right, but I think he was referring more to the two gymnasts' approaches in their routines. Aly is much more aggressive in her work whereas Anna is much more tentative. Yes, both had some issues but Anna's mistakes seem to come from self-doubt and Aly doesn't seem to have that problem.

And what I was saying is that they were choosing favorites and talking up a couple girls in particular. Even if she was winning everything before, like you said, no one can predict the future. When you are commentating for a WORLD championship you shouldn't be choosing favorites, which was obviously what they were doing. I understand why they were talking so much about Jordyn but I was saying that they shouldn't have been favoring her, and a select few more, as much as they were.
I think it's funny about how much the commentators are praising these girls when Gabby Douglas was the one who one the all around and team gold. ^,^
@CliqueGirlzFanAPD From what I remember Nastia's vault had perfect form and only started .3 below a DTY.
is the double pike for a beam dismount a requirment or something? Because that's what i've seen most gymnasts do, and on the floor as well.

I don't know why i missed this reply. But I caught it because I am watching this competition again. Stop being so rigid. The commentators can make a fun prediction if they want especially going by the US's history in gymnastics with Carly, Shawn and Nastia. So Jordyn was it and then she won team and AA and everything in 2012. They are not going to say Hannah Whelan will probably take the AA, vault, bars, beam, floor and probably rhythmic too.
Personally I don't think she's very consistent on bars. In 2011, between classics, worlds and Visa's, she only hit 3/5 routines. She hit 4/5 in 2010. I actually thought she was a bit better on the apparatus in 2010 than 2011.
They didn't show any of Gabby's routines but little did they know that she would become Olympic champion one year later.

If my memory serves me correctly, wasn't Sabrina Vega the one who walked in a locker room or something and said, "Why is everybody so uptight around here?" - or something to that effect. That really cracked me up, and I still remember her for that. As I can picture a situation where there's a room full of tensed up people, and in walks this bubbly, smiling, and cheerful young lady - "Why is everybody so uptight?"

If Elizabeth Twiddle earned such a hig score on bars and is so amazing on bars, how come she didnt quailify for the event finals??

@snofagun1814 You qualify for event finals during qualifications not team finals....she had messed up during qualifications.
Catalinas leotard seems to be cut a lil higher then everybody elses at the hips

I know. My original comment was only about how I thought it was amusing. I know what happened and that it happens in every sport. (I think of it like everyone being a Lakers fan but switching to Heat when they lose.) I get it, I just found it funny.

A simple statement about the bias and obvious favorites the commentators have is nothing like either of those. When the word team is implemented it OBVIOUSLY means there was a team. Oh, and I'm not your "dude."

@BravesGurl1983 She's fallen off her mediocre set of bars two years in a row in the AA... I don't think you have to have super high level gymnastics to be a true all arounder, I think you need to have a reasonably equal skill across all apparatus. Raisman has 3 stellar events and one terrible one, which to me does not fit with the fundamental definition or 'True All-Arounder'.
even tho bars is her worst event she is consistant on it
@bernardmvella Yeah, but it was still a weak event for her. Most All-Around gymnasts have a weak event. Aly is a "true all-arounder" If she wasn't she would not be ranked fourth in the world (with a mistake) as of right now.
