    With that logic…”doku got the ball”, how come when Jones got the ball as well. But, his foot rolled over the ball with studs up and hit the spurs player. He was sent off. VAR in that game sent the referee over to watch it frame by frame. No consistency!!! VAR is a joke

    As a former ref, (Very low grade) I always consider the issue where a player connects with another in a dangerous fashion. Based on that photo, connection with the ball or not that was a tackle where both feet are off the ground, the player is not in control of his forward momentum and the result is connection with the victims body that could have resulted in broken ribs and has certainly resulted in bruised ribs. The injury could very well preclude the victim from the next game. By that definition it is dangerous play akin to a two footed tackle.

    Jota was sent off against Tottenham for “intent”…… just the fact that he went in low with studs showing, despite never making contact with udogie was enough for the refs to give him his marching orders 😅. How a low tackle showing studs that doesn’t make contact can be used to send someone off, yet a higher, more dangerous tackle that makes contact isn’t classed as a foul is disgraceful.

Thing is it would be a foul outside of the box, but many fouls outside the box aren’t in, and that needs a big clear up imo. That is what they were hesitant to call a pen here, they get a lot more leeway. Just like the standard lazy grappling in the box on corners for example. One thing being definite is fouls outside the box are not always inside and needs a big clear up. I’m pretty sure fans of the pl are 85/15 on this decision. Refs cannot be paid immense amounts in the PL then go to UAE to referee Sunday league matches than come back to England to referee games that have implications for City, who’s owner pays for their side gigs through his family that own the UAE league.

    • @ProgressIsTheOnlyEvolution
      @ProgressIsTheOnlyEvolution Před 2 měsíci +7

      Good point. I don't even think it is true fans are 50/50 about the decision. I think most would agree this is a penalty. The fact the refs are so scared of giving a penalty is a nonsense as a defense, for why would they not be just as afraid of not giving a penalty if there is one? What it tells me is that they are afraid of going against the money at the expense of the fans, and this is why so many bad calls tend to go against the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal, while Manchester City seem to get all the breaks.
      And for me this ruins football completely, especially when City already has enough advantages in having the most money and in being able to wait many years and not be punished for 115 charges when Everton and Forest is charged right away. The league is starting to me to look as as much of a disgrace as the doping scandals in Gymnastics and Tour De France. The love of money and lack of love of truth and fair play is ruining sports today.

    I don't even know why there is controversy here. This is a penalty. Studs up in the chest is a foul, period.
    Also FIFA playing the "play the ball no foul" is BS. They are giving yellow cards on slide tackles where the player went in cleats first, got the ball, then slid through the man. Even if the attacker jumps over the tackle, they'll still give a card for going in cleats up.
    Doku went in cleats up above the waist. There is no way this is not a foul.
