My family has been here since 1800 and no amount of education (my family has advanced degrees) and being articulate can completely mitigate racism in this country.

what is racism is the question but before that what is even a race?
Science has proven a long back that there is no such thing called as "different human race" melanin content in the skin due to different geographical conditions humans live is does not make them different. Human Physiology is 100% dependent on the geographic conditions which evolves/changes over the period of 1000s of years.

I think if you're not Protestant you'll not get what she is saying. The very concept of America - which is a mindset and a culture really is developed based on Protestant Christian principles and lifestyle and mindset. There is a reason why Protestant countries by and large are the most successful economic output countries historically(don't look at 2024 data please) I'm talking about historically speaking with the exception of Japan. Also, Protestant countries are the countries which developed a thing called Law & Order when everyone in the world was murdering and butchering somebody who has little without having a system and equal rights and judiciary systems. Today, every system that is more or less present in functioning democratic countries and even in autocratic countries were formed and standardized at some point by Protestant expats. Otherwise, those countries would've still remained in the dust and would've never existed. A Stark example is North and South Korea. Do you see the outcome there between those two ? The rest is history.

English protestants did not believe in equal rights, they believed in the elect of God, a small number of protestants whom God had chosen and all others were outside of the favor of God and so did not deserve equality. America was founded as an economic experiment. It did not originally offer anything near equality to the majority of its population. if you were poor, black, native, or female you could not legally participate in American democracy and that was in line with the protestant elect philosophy. America was originally an oligarchy. Equality had to be forced onto the establishment over time. America did not become a world power until after it was religiously diverse and even then it did not see fit to offer equality to all its citizens. Your historical view is not just bigoted it's juvenile. It's the kind of history you learn in the 7th grade and believe only until you learn the rest of American history at university. There are, however, places where people of color are more likely to be racially profiled. There are also some places due to poverty and crime that you should not go. A good American friend and guide can help you determine that. Also, every single state has its own culture and food. Some states are more conservative and ,therefore, more racist than others like the American South. Also, interacting with the police can vary from state to state or even county to county in the same state. The bottom line: America has had a very racist past and present, but most Americans want to live in peace. As an AA, I will never set foot in Mississippi because it still believes losing the Civil War was unjust and slavery a good thing. But I have visited many states and have no desire to visit others because of my race.
