Rotating LE-032's LRF laser splash to horizontal

  • Here Bruce kindly demonstrates rotating the add-on LE-032 Laser Rangefinder (LRF) to give a horizontal laser splash. Thanks to @Rowlz on the Airgunforum for requesting this, it was on my to-do list so is hopefully useful to some of you.
    The outstanding LE-032 comes from customriflescopes.com (www.customrifl...) and normally displays measured distances, plus a constant display of the LRF/scope/rifle’s vertical angle.
    Be aware this may invalidate your LRF warranty. ###
    He carefully detaches the rear faceplate, removes the sealant gunk to access the four small screws, removes them and carefully prises off the rear display panel. This is then rotated 90o (left or right as required), before being reassembled.
    The LRF display will now be upright, while the side-mounted body gives a horizontal laser splash - which I believe will be better for range-finding while hunting.
    Be aware you must set the LRF to display distances only not HD (Horizontal Distance), and you must now ignore the displayed vertical angle, as it’s meaningless with the LRF body / internal sensor rotated.
    I’ll soon be uploading some footage of the PARD008LRF in use, using both it’s internal LRF (vertical laser splash) and the side-mounted LE-032 laser splash. That way you can compare them and decide for yourself which you prefer, though for the time being at least the PARDs are only available with a vertical splash, due to the shape of the body.
    Besides using the PARD008 / PARD008LRF side Picatinny rail(s), the rotated LRF can be used on any day-scope. Here you fit a standard single scope Picatinny mount - angled horizontally left or right, then you add a back-to-back double-Picatinny bracket, e.g. from ANT-supplies (www.ant-suppli..., which you now clamp your LRF’s Picatinny bracket directly onto.

    I’ve always had mine horizontal. Makes more sense to me. In my mine it’s a more accurate way of ranging.
    Nice little tip there guys. 👍🏼

    Why doesn't the manufacture recognise that horizontal orientation is better than vertical for shooting and have it thus configured out of the box?

    • @RussDouglas222
      @RussDouglas222  Před rokem +1

      A few folk I've heard from actually prefer it vertical, though I've always preferred it horizontal and newer LRF scopes like the PARD DS35s all have horizontal LRF splashes, suggesting most shooters prefer this too.

    Just bought me le 032 and abot to try it out.. i have no clue whatsoever about these.... so at the risk of making myself look a total idiot... why is horizontal splash better than vertical splash?
    Also i gotta find how to zero it with my scope crosshairs... YIKES.
    Keep up the good work buddy. 👍👍

    • @RussDouglas222
      @RussDouglas222  Před 2 lety

      Hi Shaun and don't worry there are no daft questions, it's all a learning curve.
      A horizontal LRF splash is my own preference...
      Upside: I find it's easier to range a particular spot and have no doubts about whether the LRF is measuring the range from the top or bottom of the vertical splash (i.e. incorrectly in the foreground or background).
      Downside: If you're ranging bunnies among vertical grass stalks or foliage, the horizontal LRF 'could' be returning a distance from one in the foreground. This can be mitigated by a bit of canny scanning left to right, or to a more solid object, to give you confidence you know where the bunny is.
      I never want to align the LRF splash with my crosshair, as at night if I want to take a speedy shot (without switching off the LRF) I don't want the flickering LRF splash obscuring my point of aim.
      Likewise it's easy to align the LRF aiming box with the (IR) LRF splash at night, as it's completely visible.
      Hope this helps?

    I’ve rotated mine but like yours it not range-finding, turn it up the right way it works. Rotate it and the display still works but not the range finder.

    • @RussDouglas222
      @RussDouglas222  Před rokem

      Mine works fine with the LRF rotated and display upright, it just doesn't range objects that are too close.

    horizontal splash how would that effect say trying to squeeze the laser in between two trees or fence post to laser beyond it?

    • @RussDouglas222
      @RussDouglas222  Před 2 lety

      You just lase the trees and slowly scan across left-right watching the range figure, when it jumps further then jumps back - you know the distance to the surface beyond.
      It's the same process as using a LRF with a vertical laser splash when scanning vertically across a fence or gate with horizontal bars to get the background distance, just out by 90 degrees.

    @robertlee5803 Před rokem +1

    Can you use these with thermal scope

    • @RussDouglas222
      @RussDouglas222  Před rokem

      Hi Robert, yes you can although you won't see the IR LRF 'splash' through the thermal, so you'd have to align the LRF beam to your point-of-aim using the visible red aiming laser (while your rifle's rested).
      You also might struggle to target particular spots with the LRF in the dark, unless you could identify them using your naked eye.
      Thanks for watching, cheers. Russ

    • @RussDouglas222
      @RussDouglas222  Před 4 lety

      Scott Oh it does as this is the one I got with the LE032, but Bruce refastened it to the side of the LRF, without the bulky interface plate in-between. Then once it was side-mounted the LRF splash was horizontal, the red alignment laser was on the side and the rear display was again upright.
      Admittedly there's not a massive amount of adjustment with the original wheel and Allen screw assembly, but I plan to align it with help of NV when in use.
