My 18yr old son came to me a few days ago and asked if I'd heard of a band called "James". I told him this is one of my favourite songs of all time. He was amazed that a dinosaur like myself had such good taste in music. Faith in humanity restored.
Stop talking about who to blame, when all that counts is how to change. That lyric has seen me through homelessness, relationship breakdowns, disability. I’m now happily married with a loving family.
In 2003 I bought a gently used 2001 GSXR 1000. Put the buds in the ears and 10 seconds into this song I was at 100 mph topping out in third gear on a great 2 mile stretch of a straight road near Warsaw Ohio. If you ride it is still an amazing song to play while ripping it or just cruising. Yea I'm 62 and lived to tell the tale.

bands only care about America when they are cash hungry. Good job all the Manchester/ Indie bands of the time didn’t give a shit about America. Ian Brown (Stone Roses) said that America didn’t deserve them, he was right!
A band from the USA covered 'Laid'. I'm sure musos over there know James. Let's be honest, there are probably lots of equivalents to James over the pond that we are completely unfamiliar with.

This was the first song by James that I ever heard. I immediately fell for it and soon I discovered the rest. You know that something is great when you get goosebumps all over your body after 28 years!!!
This is the song how I discovered The James. Was Fall '92 and I was 15, and the Italian MTV put the song in rotation probably for just a couple of weeks. Destiny wanted that I was zapping around MTV and after watching the video and listening the song...I was hooked. I remember days just waiting for probably the once daily rotation. Anyway soon the song went out of rotation. I did everything to get the Seven album that a 15 years old kid could have done just for this song. Unfortunately, in Italy, all major music stores didn't even know who The James were. During Christmas '92 I entered in a independent, alternative, little music shop in Rome specialized only in rock, progressive and punk and I don't even remember for what. On a high shelf, up to the ceiling, there was one copy of Seven. I went directly to the cashier and told her pointing to the album "Please, give me that". Ran at home, listened and loved the entire album. Since then, never missed a James' song and listening to them every single day. Strange that this is the first time I watched this video after those MTV rotations.
Yeah, I know how you feel. I heard this song on a modern rock station in 1992. Just about the coolest song I've ever heard along with --Get the Message-- by Electronic. I freaking adore this song, especially the longer version which has the --stop stop talking about who's the blame-- part played twice.
This takes me back to 1992. I'm 15 years old. MTV was still cool no internet. Bomber Jackets. Morrissey. Old school house party's. And Beautiful 1990s Girls.
Saw the boys perform this again two nights ago (05/07/2017) in Leicester, taking my bezzie along who has only recently discovered James (she's in her mid-20s)... 4mins later, tears of joy after much frenzied dancing/singing followedthe proclamation that James are the greatest band she's ever seen live along with Tim being "a bundle of positive energy". I'm a happy Cola. I love introducing new folk to some of the greatest bands of all-time.
Such a good song. The intro immediately grabs you. Decades ago, Born of Frustration was one of those songs so recognizable and right in the zeitgeist of the period. Like so many other great songs of the 1980s and 1990s, it has disappeared except on those music stations which have an era specific format.
Finally, at the tender of age of very nearly 50, I saw James live for the first time at the Neighbourhood Weekender 2 days ago and they performed this absolute beauty of a song. My backs knackered from all the dancing, but it was well worth it, as I was taken back to my college years and loved every minute ❤❤❤
Just heard this playing in a shop today In st augustine florida (while on holiday from Newcastle uk), of all the places to be reminded of this band. Good stuff. Great track.
The one song born from Manchester that will never get the credit it deserves. Probably the height of this era in music. All encompassing, all senses forever. ❤❤
My best friend used to love when I played this video from my VHS tape to him. He once told me he really liked this song, which was to me a bit of a surprise as he rarely commented on any such type of music: Simple Minds memories might be why he liked it. It has the same flavor as Don't you forget about me. And strage looking back he looked pretty alike to James vocalists face. I miss him so much. He died from diabetes 5 years ago. I think of him very often. 💌
Whenever me and my mother drive anywhere together, we end up sining this at the tops of our voices with the music on full blast, I'monly 18 but James is still one of the best bands i've ever heard!!! and this song came out just over a year before i was born!
So much emotion in their music. James puts a smile on my face and brings me to tears at the same time. Simply a beautiful song by a very talented band. And that voice!

Other than the Specials, all the greatest bands in Britain came from the North! 'cept maybe The Stones, think they were Southerners. And maybe The Who?
This song has a special meaning for me. I was living in Los Angeles in '92 when the uprising against the beating of Rodney King by LAPD happened and this song was all over the radio. For many of us there at the time the lyrics totally captured how we felt about the situation. It was perfect timing and whenever I hear this song I think about those tumultuous days.
Thomas Pendergast , I was living at 92th street and Vermont during those days, alone, my younger sister had just run away with my then good friend, I went to a place where my other friends used to gather together to find someone to talk about, no one was there that evening, sat there in the parking lot listening to radio, got a six pack of beer and waited there for someone to arrive, this song came out on KROQ, it gave me a sense of loneliness, very deep loneliness, but i loved it, now my memory is not that good anymore, i don't remember what was first, the Rodney King riots or the loneliest day of my life?, but it was around the same days, it looked like a WAR zone, I wasn't able to come out of my house for more then 24 hours, until the National guard was there, boy, what a time.
My 18yr old son came to me a few days ago and asked if I'd heard of a band called "James". I told him this is one of my favourite songs of all time. He was amazed that a dinosaur like myself had such good taste in music. Faith in humanity restored.

From Angola, love this band!
Genuinely one of the best songs ever made
This band just so underrated, some of the best music I’ve ever heard
No. Nope. Not underrated by anyone, anywhere, ever. Just because YOU haven't been exposed doesn't mean they are not well regarded.
How come I’ve missed out not listening to this great band. I thank absolute radio for playing James On the radio.
Maravilhoso, amei. Amo essa banda e vocalista. Som demaís ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
THE WORLD IS SIMPLY TOO FRUSTRATING , NOT FAIR , NOT RIGHT, THIS SONG MAKES SENSE IN A SENSELESS UNREASONABLE WORLD
I think they should have bate Rodney harder
How about government walls, also by James? Lyrics as apt now as at the time.
You must be white.
