    Point IO is a critical component of a distributed control system. This hardware component from Rockwell Automation allows the end user to add nodes of inputs and outputs to their system within proximity of field devices. By doing so, costs of installation are reduced and the need of multiple PLCs is reduced if not eliminated in most situations.
    From a practical standpoint, Point IO is a hardware block which communicates over ControlNet, DeviceNet or EtherNet and sends data to the master device. The master device is an Allen Bradley PLC which can be from the ControlLogix or the CompactLogix family. A major advantage of the Point IO platform is the fact that the user can pick the required input and output cards in order to satisfy the needs of their control system. In other words, the user may choose to have a very flexible node combination & save on the costs.
    In this tutorial, we will be exploring the connections needed to add a SICK sensor to one of the inputs on the Point IO node. This procedure is the same for most sensors, relay based inputs and other devices commonly seen in a 24VDC based control system.

      Thank you for the feedback. I do have a Siemens PLC, but I wouldn't call myself an expert in it, so I stayed away from making videos on Siemens for now. I'll see if I can spend a bit more time with it in the future.

    Vlad, I am having trouble adding 1794-AENT to RS linx. I am adding it in to a driver that has a Stratix 5700 which has VLANs set up on it. I have 2 PLC going into the Stratix, then I have the remote IO. I cannot get the AENT to populate in RS linx,however I can ping it. Have you ever set up AENT through a stratix? I am plugged into a switch that's connected through ethernet to the stratix. I know there's a lot going on here, I just thought maybe you could see it from a different perspective. I can make a driver with just the AENT, but when I add the stratix, it wont work.

      With VLANs it can be tricky; your gateways must be setup to forward the traffic correctly. I've not done it over VLANs, but I did it over a NAT configuration through a Stratix. I would definitely expect it to work the way you're describing; I'd spend more time with the settings of the Stratix; I'm not certain why the traffic isn't going through. Sorry, I can't help you further.

      @@SolisPLC I am thinking now I need to add the gateway for the AENT. The gateway is the IP of the Stratix. I remember now that I had to to into port configurations (on the PLCs) and set the gateway in order for the Stratix to see the PLCs. I think I will have to do the same for the AENT. So what you said did remind me that may be what's keeping the Stratix from seeing the AENT

    Hello, I was wondering why is the reason the IO output card is blinking red? thank you

    • @SolisPLC
      @SolisPLC  Před 2 lety

      Those specific modules detect that nothing is connected on the output side and blink red as a "minor fault".
