Webb's take on the classic Hank Thompson hit. From the Where'd Ya Stay Last Night Album released Feb / 1967 Decca DL-74844 Recorded ~ October 28 1966 Bradley's Barn, Bender's Ferry Road, Mount Juliet, TN
Beautiful..the words are phenomenal..Webb Pierce is a sensation and a legend and sadly missed..What a performance Webb did on any stage in his time..Talent is magnificient and that's what Webb had to give to the world..thank you
Yea, of all the Wild Side of Life covers I've heard this one is especially unique. Every other cover I've heard from country artists has been a straight up Hank Thompson clone.
@@2packs4sure yeah John is always will be as one of a kind so is ET and I thank you so much for sharing their music for us CZcamsrs radio stations nowadays at least here in Dallas just not play the classic country making John thank you so much I appreciate all you do for the country music fan lover
I was wondering way my email was full of Webb stuff today, Webb's B'day. I agree, this one really grew on me over the years. Webb did a great job on it.
Great Job On this Song, Thanks for the info I didn,t know Jimmie Heap Recorded this always heard The Hank Thompson version, Agree that Webbs version is really good The arangment is great
Just finished listening 2 the original version of this song by Jimmy Heap, never realized Hank Thompson wasn't the first recording of The Wild Side Of Life until tonight listening too an interview of Ralph Emery and Hank. Heap did a pretty good job and there was some changing of words, Guess I learned something tonight Thanks for all the Webb Music JD
Wow, I didn't know that either. I just listened to it and it's pretty good. It was cut in February of 1951 at the KTAE Radio Station in Taylor, TX ~ Jimmy Heap and The Melody Masters (Jimmy Heap [ld gt], Perk Williams [vcl-1/fiddle],Horace Barnett [rh gt], Butterball Haris[steel], Bill Glendening [bass], Arlie Carter [piano]) Hank Thompson cut his version on December 11 1951.. I lost a great deal of my records, cd's, and a 500 gigabyte music only external hard drive that was stupidly on the floor in the Harvey flood, so some of my CZcams posts are all that's left of a lot of it. Take her easy and you're sure welcome for the Webb music, John
I'd so much love to hear this cut off of the Master Tape. Hell, I need all Webb's master tapes from 59' to his last Decca session. I'm starting to think i'll be dead and buried before Webb's 59' - 69' Decca stuff gets properly remastered and released. IF EVER. I listened to your Jimmy Heap post. That guy could really wail, awesome version, really raw yet the vocals are sterling.
Webb doing a great version of this big hit for Hank Thompson, this is one of several songs that have the same or close Tune as ( The Great Speckled Bird) the old Roy Acuff song.
Webb As usual Improving on The Big Hit Of Hanh Thompson,Love it Do you Have Webbs (A Walk On The Wild Side Of Life?) If so please upload And many thanks for all the great WP uploads
That's easy. March 13, 1992 in an '88 Mercury Topaz. I still remember it was a Friday. Everyone has a certain moment that never agrees to leave their memory. The older you get the more poignant they become. Memories of youth provide the afterglow before the darkness takes us all away.
Yeah, me too,,, and there was such variety ! No one else EVER sounded even a little like Webb,, totally unique voice.. Same for Johnny Bush, Johnny Paycheck, Ray Price, Ernest Tubb,,, etc etc AND etc..... Seems like most of the male country singers these days are minor variations of each other with just a very few exceptions...
Hands down,
best version, best cut!
I agree !!

I love his songs
I don't know why, but this song always make me cry. I love it anyway.
Well I DIDN’T know God made honky-tonk angels..until now, that is!
Fantastically lush arrangement of this song ,perhaps the most justly celebrated of all country music songs. Loved it !!

Peggy Bagley Houston's classic country station,,,,,,, who I lent some records too,,,, went away in the mid 90's......
I know right? "New Country has more in common with gutless 70s soft rock than it does with Honkytonk...
Back to listen and share!

Hank used to hang around some of the same clubs as Jimmy Heap in Oklahoma. Saw both of them at the Southern Club in Lawton many times.

Beautifully done!
Webb put a jazzy spin on it didn't he.........
He sure did, I love it!
Webb doing a great version of this big hit for Hank Thompson, this is one of several songs that have the same or close Tune as ( The Great Speckled Bird) the old Roy Acuff song.
Yeah Webb added a little funk to it which was the perfect touch to make it interesting !!
😊
Man you've got to hear Status Quo or the Cajun Roosters. You know its a good song when people in europe are making covers🙋♂️
I checked them out,, not exactly my taste but fun.
The Cajun Rooster's version chugs along nicely !!

Isn't this originally a Carter Family song? I believe it is. Could be wrong, though.
I don't think so,, first I'm aware of it was Hank Thompson.

1956 on a bus...
Somebody find out what that means.
