This brings back a lot of memories. This is the kind of tent we always used when camping with the family growing up. Almost every weekend during the summer we lived in a tent like this sleeping on air mattresses. 1980's air mattresses... Not quite the quality of what we have today.
Thanks for the vid, TLB. About the best family car camping tent I've seen so far.
Thank you for the review, I am currently shopping for a larger tent for extended stays and this one is on my "maybe" list. Thanks again !
Mine just came today. I set it up but couldn't manage to take it down properly, so i looked up and found your review. Thank you for sharing it!
Thanks for your review! I was undecided on the type of tent I want to purchase until I landed on this video! Awesome and clear review there!
We've had a smaller version for a couple of years. Bought it when my wife wanted a "stand up" tent. We like the easy setup and have had good luck so far. Been through a heavy rain storm. I just tie a cheap harbor freight tarp for a fly for a little extra protection.
This is a beautiful tent, and I really appreciate how detailed your video is. Very informative and totally the tipping point in my decision on whether or not I'll be getting this model. THANK YOU!!!
... Appreciated for the video, and our special thanks for addressing the accessibility issue, for the taller people. This will help so much our student camps contingencies and would be also great to see the pack-up video, as to how quick and handy is to pack it up, with the quick change of the locations, in mind :).
Great tent for family camping! This is basically the tent I have (Wal-Mart version 13x10, i think? A Craigslist find unopened for $100) for a family of 5. I was a little apprehensive about not having a rainfly. But Coleman designed them without a rainfly, so decided to chance it. After 3 years we have had no issues with water getting in. We even stayed 5 nights in the Black Hills of South Dakota, including two really bad storms with no issues with water getting in. So after that trip it resolved my fears of no rainfly. Easy up and down. For family camping, this is the way to go. Great video, keep it up!
I concur with your assessment. For my 21st year at Boy Scout Summer Camp, I bought the 6 man (Walmart exclusive) version of this tent and it sat thru a TORRENTIAL down pour that lasted over 3 hours and 6+ inches. I think there was 6 drops inside. The only problem with the Walmart version is that no fly is available for it.
This is a GREAT tent -- it really is this easy to use AND it is HUGE when set up and very manageable when collapsed, broken down. We have had ours for over 7 years and it is still going strong. Cannot say enough good things about this tent. Wonderful buy.
This will be perfect for camping out in my own back yard!
We have the 6 person version of this tent and absolutely love it. Super fast to put up and take down. It has an optional rain fly, but due to the design and construction, you don't really need it. We have been thru a couple of rain filled days in it and it never leaked a drop.
How many people was in the 6 person tent? I'm debating between the 6 or 8 person tent.
Have you used it in windy conditions? I’m curious how it would handle! Thanks for any information you could provide, I have the Weathermaster 10 and is a good tent but a little hard to set up when my 6 yr old and I go by ourselves.
Great review. Just got same tent, and I hope it's as great as it looks
Nice tent, I rely like the speed of take down, and I imagine it's really easy to set up, thanks for the review
I'm having the same tent and trust me taking down is easy but wrapping it up and putting in bag is torture...
This is very helpful (and you are a patient man!). One question: At ~4:00, you show the velcro closure at the bottom of the door. How do you close it from the inside??
I bought this tent and rain fly last year after my wife complained that my Snugpak Scorpion3 was too small. Going to use it when all the snow is gone.
It looks pretty easy to put up. We have a 13x7 Colman Naugatuck, which is not as easy on the pitching and takedown. I do like the Naugatuck. It is well built and designed for family style camping and has proven very waterproof and breathable (several family trips on the Mogollon Rim during monsoons, which means torrential downpour every afternoon), but I like the height and ease of setup of this one. I am a bit surprised it doesn't come with the rain fly. On the other hand, it is nice that it doesn't need it (The Naugatuck does), making setup that much quicker.
I've had a one person tent that I've used for like 15 years now. I can get it up pretty fast in a rainstorm and it's fairly light, but man, sometimes I wish I could use a big spacious one!
Yep, those tiny backpacking tents are real convenient for packing around, but there's nothing like having lots of space! :)
Great Review! I will get this one based on your review. Thanks!
I just ordered the Ozark equivalent from Walmart. Gonna water proof it before bringing it out! The Ozark has a cool built-in ceiling LED light bar. It also comes with the rain fly. It was about $170.
nice looking tent....sounds like you had some fun with it
Phenomenal review dude! Thanks for this!
Have you had any problems with rain or water getting in since you've posted this review video sir? I want to get it but I've been reading some comments in amazon about flooding.
Never did have any flooding, but I bought the rain fly anyway, and always use it now.
Great review, thanks!
Love the tent , but does it have an electrical opening?
I've this tent and the attachment pole parts has broken. Can you pls tell how to fix it
Love the headroom.
We've had the 10 person version for a couple years and it has been a great tent. So easy to put up and take down too! My prior large family tent was a Winchester 3 room I believe. Man that thing was a project to put up and take down...took like an hour ha ha.
I have that tent, very easy to put up and take down, even when setting up in the dark
it looks big enough to be used as a cook tent or a communal dinning Trent great review
Weird comment, but that is a beautifully tensioned tent. Just how perfectly smooth the taffeta is deeply satisfying.
how the performance during rain? and is the post easy to break?
Don't get me wrong, I like the tent but .... I have always had some difficulties with setup where the legs seem to be inverted (bending the wrong way). Once it is up, it is great. We have had 4 cots and tons of gear inside and there was room to spare. The head room is amazing. I sometimes get leg cramps at night and I can standup and stretch them out easily. I got the add-on rain-fly and can affirm that we have stayed dry in heavy rain.
So that issue with setup actually seemed to eventually catch up with us as it seems like one of my 'helpers' the last I used it actually broke one of legs. Now unfortunately Coleman is no longer stocking parts for mine (purchased in 2018) and it has been difficult to track down a replacement. I may end up repairing the broken leg myself as I do like using this bigger tent for family camping.
Great vid man! Super detailed and helpful.
Glad to help.
Great review man
I have that same exact tent, same color bought 60% off on Amazon. Used it this last weekend here in Florida for my sons scout campout and it stormed on Saturday night and flooded the inside of the tent. This was the first out of about 5 campouts where it rained. I must have gotten a bad one because water was coming in at multiple areas. I will be getting the rainfly and seam sealing and waterproofing for sure before I use it again. Other than getting flooded out, I really like how easy it is to put up and take down and it has tons of room.
I've seen some reviews on Amazon echoing your experience. Mine kept the rain out easily, but I went ahead and bought the rainfly so I'm not chancing it on future trips.
***** Yeah, I'm thinking the rainfly will also give you a little more shielding from the sun and help to keep the tent a little cooler on the inside when it's warmer out. It looks like it's easy to put on too.
Wow! This decided it! When you said 6' 2" and there was more room! That sold it!
'Nuff said! I'm getting it! Oh, and the Colors! I love it! No more NEON Colored hunting tent!
what colour variation is the tent?
how much price?
Does it have a port for an electrical cord?
Looks like a good fair weather car camping tent!
Have a Rain Fly in set?
good review I have the 10 x9 really nice tents yours is a condo thanks for the video
I'll probably pick up one of the smaller ones eventually.
Bro which Air-cooler is good for this Tent ?
I am in thailand,Can I buy this tent?
love your content but i love my OzTent even more. I hope they sent you one to compare.
Good summary. At the start you said "we good soaked" but I think you meant it rained hard and you were dry
I was like huh soaked I don't want it then....where's the rain fly
Well we purchased it, let's see how it goes... Had a 6 person Coleman for about 10 years now. The zipper finnally gave out last year and our family keeps expanding. So, let's give this a go.
Good content! Thanks!
thanks for the share!
Hello,
Hope you get this message. I was uncertain which tent to purchase, but, am probably sold on this one, now that I've seen the inside of it and found out how it is rain-proof. Thank you for your review. (Haven't checked to see if you have, but, just wish you had a video of putting it up. Did it take two people or can one person put it up?). Thanks for any information if you should see this comment.
Curtrice Ennis One person can do it easily.
Mine is a slightly different model and mine leaked like crazy.
Did they discontinued making the black and tan for 8 person tent? I just see the black ,blue and white and it is ugly?
I have had mine for 15 years
Still works good
I advise people to grab a Philips screwdriver & tighten all the screws every once in a while they do come loose
I have that cabin tent and it is great. Think about getting the rain fly for it.
Have you found a rain fly for this tent, that would match the color? The only one i found is blue. Cheers
Amazon has it. Just search for the 14 by 10 rainfly and scroll down. Not positive it is a perfect match., but it is not blue.
sosguy d
Cipri Cipri you can buy the Matching rainfly on Amazon just type in the size you need and it will show up
The rain fly is no good. The rain fly doesn't cover the tent all the way to the perimeter of the tent. It is short a few inches. So if its raining entering in and out the tent you will get water inside your tent. I have this same exact tent. I use a tarp as a rain fly.
We have the same tent. It’s great!!
Thanks!
willow Park?
good review by the way
Nice video. Thx
This sounds crazy but I want to park my honda accord in it when the snow falls at the cabin. It's plenty long enough ... well 1 foot will hang out the double doors which is fine, and still leaves three feet to one side to walk alongside the car snow free. But what I need to know is the height of the double door since the car is 4.75 feet high. Will it clear the top of the split entrance? I may have to modify the door but I don't mind. You didn't stand next to the double door so I couldn't get a visual using you as a yardstick :D
If it's ~five feet top to bottom it means I can still use it as a tent, which would be great! Thanks.
The double door is definitely over 5', maybe 5.5'. I'm 6'2", and I have to bend a little, but not that much. Good luck with that!
@@TheLateBoyScout thanks!
Well said and done 👍
Our Coleman Oasis finally gave up the ghost on our last trim this past weekend. Thinking of getting the Instant 8. Family of 5 + dog so in tent math that means we need at least an 8 person...
Thanks for the review. This may put us over the top.
Knight My family of 5, + dog just got back from a 2 nighter in ours. It’s still performing great after many trips. Get the rain fly though... I’ve learned that it’s a necessity. Also, a secondary tarp to go underneath is a good preventative measure for protecting the floor.
The Late Boy Scout thanks. I just ordered this tent last night. Getting some weather here over the next few days so I might test it out. Our next trip isn’t planned for a couple months now so we have some time to get the rain fly.
Quick update. We have been using this tent for almost 2 years and managed to avoid any heavy rain... until last night. We got stuck in about an hour and a half rainstorm. Almost immediately the tent flooded with an inch or two of water in places (not on a level grade). The water plainly came in through the windows (yes, they were closed). We also had purchased the rainfly and had it up at the time. This did nothing as the windows are not really protected by the rainfly. I contacted Coleman customer service but based on the initial canned response, I do not expect any help from them. This was a great tent for about a year but lately has been difficult to set up and the poles no longer support the structure very well with much of the form controlled by the guy lines. The lack of any noticeable waterproofing is the last straw.
@@bebakerus thank you for updated after 2 years. I just purchased yesterday without rainfly in Thailand. And US out of stock. Im waiting US stock available but very worries about water leak. I cant cancel the order
Qual o valor?
Great tent for the money.
Que precio está la carpa
Thanks
Do you need Rain Fly for this tent tho.?
Better chance of staying dry if you do.
Coleman did a half ass job with this tent. I received it yesterday and set it up in my yard. The big windows screen should of been able to hang up instead of down and should be able to zip it completely around so cold wind dont blow in. The double room dividers has zipper but its still hanging free on the side, and the white blue is ugly. I returning and keeping the ozark trail i purchase too
Wait you said you guys got soaked? Is it waterproof?
I meant the campsite got soaked. We stayed dry. Even so, I did invest in the rain fly later, because I've read that some users have gotten wet without it.
So this version does not come with a rain fly?
Correct. The rain fly is not included.
The Late Boy Scout I saw this tent on FB marketplace and the description said “integrated rain fly”.
Very good 👍
Nice to be see you with your father
Cool Tent, But i am really curious why it has pictures of lanterns all over it. .....Great Video.
Coleman logo.
Podrías mandarme una a Argentina
Very Nice, but I picked up an Ozark Trail 8 man for less than $100 that works great
I had one like that like 4 years ago. Now We use our Large Coleman pop up camper. Its a dream and we do at least 5 camp trips a summer up here in NH. We have some favorite places. Mine is Pawtuckaway state park on the Water front sights. FANTASTIC. But getting the sights is a PAIN you have to book a year ahead and STILL hard to get sights....When they become available they are booked instantly. Its like someone is waiting and instantly books. I do some back pack trips with just the boys and we have a BLAST hiking into remote areas where you pick it and stick it type of camping. That wont work with the whole family but my 2 older boys oooo yea....
It’s 14x10 and it’s an 8 person tent so how come there’s other Coleman tents that are 14x10 that they say are 10 person tents?
I like the roof on this one. It looks as if it will keep you warmer on cold nights. It doesn’t have mesh that is just covered by a rain fly.
Good question. Perhaps Colman changed the marketing, or maybe the design was altered. I couldn’t say for sure.
@@TheLateBoyScout okay thank you for the response man
First use brand new we got rain and it leaked - dripping from the window loops, gear pockets, ceiling misting etc. Nothing worse than cold water dripping on you while trying to sleep. We didn't use the "optional" rain fly, but doubt it wouldn't matter as the walls below the fly leak anyway. Materials soak through :(
How does it handle strong wind?
Anyone getting this tent just so you know you will need a rainfly to go over the top of it as they all leak. Don't ask me why but they sell them separately. This is still in my opinion the best tent on the market for ease of setup, durability, and size. The rainflies were sold on Amazon when I got mine and might still be sold on there. Make sure you measure your tent length and width and don't just go by how many men the tent is rated for as we purchased the wrong one.
do you have a link on the correct size to get?
@@teedawg2386 you have to measure your tent brother length x width.. Don't just go by man size 8 man 10 man etc....
Well I was assuming that you got this tent, so I thought you already purchased it for this tent.
@@teedawg2386 I do own this particular model and did purchase the rainfly on Amazon who still sells it for 49.99 search on Amazon "Coleman Instant Tent Rainfly, 14 x 10-Feet" worth every penny.
Thank you so much !!! Just placed order :)
Is it really that instant? You just show up at your campsite and POOF tent appears?
where can i buy one?
Amazon
Been thinking about this tent... Didn't realize the rain fly wasn't included, and cost flipping 50 bucks more... Seriously? 50 bucks for a rainfly??
If I'm spending that much, I'll just spend a hundred dollars more, and get a better tent!
Does it need a rain fly?
"Need" is really subjective. I added the fly for extra protection, but it had already survived two rainy nights without the fly, and we stayed pretty dry in it. I say get the fly anyway, to be safe.
@@TheLateBoyScout Thanks!
I like to use madera outdoor because they plant two trees with every purchase, and the tents are good quality for the price. They are around $85 dollars but I use a discount code REDOD30 which takes off $20
Camphost Rick what site is that code used on
These are good tents but if it rains and you have the door open at any point the water runs inside the tent. The doors need a overhang so the rain wont run inside the tent. We found this very annoying.
Another down side is they offer little to no light blockage so if you have young kids expect them to wake up around 4am when the sun comes up in summer.
A good tent could be so much better though
Came for the tent review, thumbed up for the pistol.
nice coleman 8 person instant tent ok
stove jack boom hot tent for hunting
Can you actually add a stove to a tent with this material? I've been looking for video on how to do it without burning my tent down lol
but NOTHING beats the extra rainFly......... for more rainProofing. For a starter family tent.......look no farther. Excellent quality
Why does he look like Sal from impractical jokers?
I have exact same tent with no rain fly. Never had a water issue, what I do with all my tents is spray them with two cans of water repellant. My only complaint about the tent is the door is a double zipper L shape, and not single zipper D shape which cause a very small opening where the two zippers meet up when closed if not have total focus on closing the door which could allow bugs and mosquitos to get in. But a can of bug repellant help.
Its not instant, but it looks fast and it should have a hole in the middle for a pipe, then it would be perfect
A rare tent review that doesn't show how to set it up.
I guess if you cant read the instructions on a tent that opens like a umbrella and has no installed / removable parts, you need to stay at home.
don't trust the tent onkeeping you dry just put a tarp for extra protection from rain getting and having a bad experience.
Looks easy enough,I'm 6 ft
But its only half the tent....Wheres the rest of it. You've only got the inner, its not designed to be at all waterproof. Wheres the fly? No way they sell them separately in the US? Hope your house has a roof over the ceilings.
Heres the link to complete tent; www.colemanaustralia.com.au/en_AU/instant-up/instant-up-8p/1411978.html?cgid=coleman-tents-instant#start=6
I clicked on the Amazon link and directed me to amazon store but not to the item 😏
I'm sorry, the link is working for me.
I purchased this tent, top poles didn't work. Amazon sent a replacement, still didn't work!! Junk!!!
