    I noticed the cold temperatures have wreaked havoc on my plastic gopro fittings. I ordered some aluminum parts for a little extra money on Amazon. Tired of broken plastic in the cold! Not going to take it anymore!

    Great job Doug. As a mechanical engineer I really enjoy your videos that solve problems and come up with better solutions.Manufacturers are looking for the most economical solutions to increase profits, but sometimes that causes problems for the consumer. Keep up the good work. Wish my garage looked like yours.

    Brilliant! Perfect solution! Sadly, I can’t imagine the manufacturer isn’t aware of the issue. They should have sent every owner a redesigned part that doesn’t break in cold temps. Regardless, your solution is spot on!

    pretty cool. It is fun watching someone's vision come to life. I have seen spring loaded ball bearings you could put to the inside but have no idea how to fabricate it to add it. I would have to mimic what someone else has done. Or, make your pin spring loaded and only be able to pull out far enough for the handle to be inserted. let go and the spring pops it into the handle.

    Yes, you need some sort of safety strap to keep from popping out. With the plastic handle rubbing in and out of the aluminum block, the snug fit will eventually loosen as the plastic handle wears. Locking pin is a great solution!

    Machining/fab/weld/paint videos are always good! It appears, though, that the original plastic piece was modified to move the bracket further away from the window.......I'm assuming so it would latch the window closed tighter against the seal? That had to really ramp up the pressure on those wimpy plastic uprights. IMO, Polaris screwed the pooch on that entire window latching setup.

    That's an awesome idea Doug! And having the pin go all the way through is even better than the original version. Is that a Polaris window or after market one?

  • @JCWren
    @JCWren Před rokem +2

    You might be able to make a product out of that. First, I have wonder what bozo at Polaris decided that the latch shouldn't be centered between the mounting screws... If the side walls of the latch were narrowed slightly, and/or a screw with a smaller head, it looks like there should be enough clearance to get the rear left mounting screw in. Then the whole piece could be milled from a single block of UHMW. If you stuck with aluminum, it could be sand cast to reduce costs. Or milled from aluminum if you wanted to sell it as billet, which seems to be all the rage these days.

I have a question though, what was the too you used at Adam's house when he sawed up that big oak log last week?
