This video explains why UNDERSTANDING - rather than speaking - is what really gets you fluent. It also answers many student questions about how to remember vocabulary, improve pronunciation, use correct grammar automatically, and much more. When you UNDERSTAND English like a native speaker, you can finally speak like one. :)

Mr. Please, don't get lost!
Because your upload was almost one year ago. I used to watch your lessons that's why don't forget about us too...😊
Hello from Vietnam and I can confirm this as a person who doesn't have a foundation since childhood, but constantly set my will to learn English since teenage years up to now early 20s. It's not really about methods, having native English speakers in person to practice with, or sitting hours in class. But it's all about knowing basic principles (someone said that methods are many, but principles are few; methods change, but principle never change), having a will to commit and dedicate yourself to do/learn something, specifically learning & using English. You may think "I must have a native speakers talk with me in person, then my English will improve" but I don't think so and just like Drew said you have to have the foundation of understanding native speakers first before gaining momentum for confidence and fluency. Other than that, I think you will only become more insecure when you actually meet a native speaker, why do you preparing something first before actually meeting one? Timing will come, but are you ready or at least be prepared for the next level (talk in person)? And I believe these two will go hand in hand together in case you don't live in a full English-speaking environment. Thanks for reading some of my thoughts.
Your English is awesome! 😀 I am struggling with my English even after moving to USA. 😢 I cannot be serious about my learning recently and got stuck.
@@TheMononome I really forgot I wrote this comment, but it's a seed a sew, I think now I'm reaping the results.
I hope this will encourage you, yes you have made your best effort to go there, but also you're really blessed to be there too. This is the big picture because it's not just about learning English, you are having access to the benefits from the greatest country on earth and millions of people around the world wish they could have that chance like you, including me. I wanted to immigrate there, but now it's not my pursuit anymore, I'm satisfied over here in my country because I had some Americans here ^^
However, just being there physically doesn't automatically give you free meal success, you have to want it and fight for it. Therefore, English is just the gate, it's not something a big deal and when you get through the gate, guess what? You're gonna struggle a lot more, the reward for good work is more work, you have to accept and embrace it in order to be successful in life.
And most importantly, it's not just for you. Your family and people around you will get the benefits from your success in learning English too. And remember, America is unique because of its core values from the beginning hundreds of years ago, you better figure it out 😉
30:20 Wow, that actually makes a lot of sense.
Halo Mr Andrew. Sorry If I spel your name incorrectly. I just wamna thank you for making such a helpful English lesson videos. I hope I can see you and talk to you directly one day. I have learnt English almost 10 years ago but when I saw your youtube videos it helps me even more. I am a local (non native) English teacher and I have always been wanting to have a very intense native tutor class so that I can improve my comprehension and speaking skill however I cannot effort it. So, wanting to be a very responsible English teacher is difficult to have want I need as an English teacher but by seeing your youtube videos makes me confident to teach the upper level. I am from Indonesia and in here there are still so many people who cannot speak English. Thamk you very very very much for your kindness to help us English teachers around the world and hope to see you one day visits us in Indonesia.

Love the idea of learning like a native, (understanding words and phrases) but doesn’t learning in a traditional way (explicit grammar and vocabulary instructions) help with comprehension as well? Thanks

Thanks. Im from Dud America. I understand but i need to practice
oh yes! I also like that movie very much. A great movie.
The problem I've got with learning through only English input is, that sometimes I don't fully understand the definition, so my brain doesn't get it. 🤦♂ Therefore I end up translating this word anyway to my native language (polish) for better understanding. 🤷♂
PS. I'm on B2 level of English which means upper intermediate.
Sometime, I think, I won't be able to speak like a native and understand language like a native.
Great vid. Greet! 👏
This means you're not getting the right input... Or getting enough review. The problem with most teachers and lessons is THE TEACHERS understands, but they don't make sure THE STUDENT really understands the lesson ALL IN ENGLISH. The right input gets you to the point of understanding that you feel confident enough to USE what you learn, without thinking, hesitating, organizing sentences, or translating. And this is why my training doesn't just tell you the definition of something one time. You get it again and again, and in different ways, in different contexts and from different speakers. Even natives will forget new vocabulary they hear only once. Natives will also struggle to explain things they don't really understand. So it's the input PLUS the naturally varied review that gets you fluent all by yourself. Read how this works here: bit.ly/3QnA1jL :)
Hello. I will watch your youtube. hope useful and interesting. thanks
I enjoyed the pie moment.
Good healh
Hello from mexico teacher !
Could Drew or anybody explain the difference between flipping, zipping and zapping TV channels please? I couldn't find the difference on Internet. However, I felt like the difference is about the speed of the movement. Thank you in advance. 🙏😊
I think watching movies in English will help. Fortunately, I'm good at listening.
I watched "Top Gun". Maverick gets into an argument with his female instructor, saying, "When I fly, my crew and my plane come first."
This was when I got to know "come first."
It's pleasure to see you Dear teacher, but why i didn't get the notification for this live
Was only live on Instagram. :)

Please explain. Which way is correct, better or more often used in regular conversations.
1. He is twice her age. = she is half his age.
