  • Are you looking to buy a used Opel Corsa in South Africa? We have nearly 400 to choose from!
    www.cars.co.za/usedcars/Opel/...
This is an entirely new Opel Corsa and in many ways it represents the future of the brand, for a number of reasons, many of which you can't even see. That's because this Opel is based entirely on a Peugeot chassis and makes use of a Peugeot engine and transmission. It is, under the skin, no different from Peugeot's new 2008.
This Corsa really has its work cut out for it; it has to take on a myriad of competitors including, but not limited to, the ever-popular Volkswagen Polo, the feisty Ford Fiesta and strong rivals from Korea in the form of the Hyundai i20 and Kia Rio.
And so, for this top-spec Elegance model featured here, Opel really has thrown the kitchen sink in here. In this video we'll take you over the specs and pricing of the new Opel Corsa in South Africa, as well as comfort and safety features, back seat space and boot (load) area.
We'll also dig into the more consumer-y angles of which one you should buy, the good old Opel Corsa vs Volkswagen Polo vs Ford Fiesta debate.
    Enjoy!

I'll take the one that wasn't even mentioned in the competition.
    The Mazda 2 Huzumi.
    20k cheaper
Non turbo so ease of mind when reliability comes in
    Also curtain airbags
    Heads up display
    Paddle shift
    Better claimed fuel economy
3 year unlimited km service and warranty I extended mine to 6 years unlimited km
Keyless entry and push button start
    Navigation
    Cd player
Partial cloth and real leather seats, not fake leather like this corsa
    Almost 200kg lighter
    Smaller turning circle
All these things that the corsa don't have.
When I bought my Mazda 2 in 2019 my short list was
    Mazda 2
    Fiesta
    Polo
    Rio
The Mazda drove the best and interior in a higher class than the other 3 in my short list.
And then that soul cristal red paint.
To put in more perspective. If I would have added all the extras that the Mazda 2 comes with standard to the non gti top of the line polo, the polo would have cost 100k more than the Mazda 2.

My sister has a Mazda Mazda2 and it looks great...on her. For me (25 M), it looks too feminine. I love driving that car - the interior punches way above its class. There are a few niggles that potential buyers will need to know such as the half size glove compartment due to the position of the fuse box, the absence of a false floor so the load lip makes those wishing to load large objects considerably more challenging, the previous generation 6-speed auto compared to the new 8-speed employed in Europe and a few other odds and ends.

I own a fully loaded opel corsa for 8 months Now (August 2020 Belgium) it is a good car I got the 74kw/100hp with a 6 speed manual. Fuel consumption is okay, I drive slow so not a problem there for me. The electronics side is not on pair with the vw polo. like the dead spot sensor especially on highway not always tracks the cars, like I had a few times in perfect weather conditions it did not see the car next to me(highway) the other time I was cruising along and the driver display+touchscreen went off I didnt see anything for atleast 2minutes blacked out. The engine indeed got a couple of awards. The previous Peugeot had almost the same engine but with 110hp. The one in the Corsa, Peugeot 208 and propably any other car in the psa group feels like it's still the 110hp version but renamed it's really quick for 100hp

Something I noticed in the vw polo vivos the pedals are hanging a bit high from the floor especially the accelerator where u hv to keep yo foot on most of the time while driving. U can imagine how rxhausting ut is to have your feet in the air in a 3 hr trip. Probably am sploit by the accelerator pedal in the old golf 5 which allows me to relax my right foot while driving. Something small like that can make a driving experience bit unpleasuroable...

The Opel brand is not what it used to be unfortunately as our local market changed dramatically with lots of new competiion and they just could not keep up. Owners of new Opel's are going to sit with a car nobody will want in a few years. Back in 90s and early 2000s Opel was super hot - good old days.

Problem with most car companies in South Africa except for Toyota and VW is marketing. You will never see an advert on TV of other car manufacturers.
Dealerships locations also play a big role.
You get VW and Toyota dealerships even in small towns whereas you hardly get dealerships of other car manufacturers except in major cities.
They are plain stupid or ignorant.
The last issue is that you can't buy cars online in South Africa for most car manufacturers except for BMW which has a fully fledged online store.
Last one CZcams reviews ars fairly new in South Africa which also is a problem..... Most people don't buy car magazines.

Stellantis have Peugeot, Opel, Citroen, Alfa, FIAT, Maserati and JEEP ...if there was some culling to take place I doubt Opel would be the first in line, they are turning Opel around and I think with the brand history in SA it's going to be difficult to just erase it like that. If anything that is the brand they'd want to invest heavily in.

I'm wondering how the manual naturally asperated engine is, and if the EV version is coming to South Africa.
I would take the Corsa and the Fiesta. The one I would drive most, seeing that my household picks the car they want to exclusively drive, I'll end up with the Fiesta and the only other driver will snatch the Corsa even before driving either. The range of the EV that is at about 210miles (head calculation, 336km), test revealing a range of 190miles (304km), more then enough range for a working week drives and short stint drives from Cape Town to Worcester and back without needing to stop for a charge.

Great review but with a retail in excess of R300k why not just get a preowned top spec astra once! Or perhaps if you want power go get a GTI polo or Golf that will be in mint condition but you’ll pay for insurance and risk higher. At this price what would I choose? Definitely the fiesta !👍🏿back up is everything and corsa only has 5 kw more at 91

SA car buyers have no imagination. Even back in 2010 when I looked at the Corsa D and Polo, the 1.4 Corsa at the time was better than a 1.6 Polo - yet people buy Polo. It's the sheeple factor which is why they sell the most and gives the Verveeld Wagen comfort. My previous car was a Peugeot 407 coupe and I am now in a 1.6t Astra, I think the PSA take over was the best thing that could happen to Opel.

And as far as I know only the top of the range Corsa is turbocharged, the lower spec models have 1.2 NA engines that are much slower, so do the lower level models really compete with what the Polo and Fiesta offer? In my opinion only this top of the range model offers a bit of competition. But this is SA and we love our VW's so it isn't really that much competition now is it.
