  • Atieno is a documentary about the life of Dr Margaret Atieno Ogola who was a Kenyan Paediatrician and the creative force behind award winning classics like "The River and the source," "Place of Destiny" and "The gift of grace: The life of Michael Maurice Cardinal Otunga among others. She was also a world renowned activist and received the Humanitarian Familias Award in 1999 for her contribution to family values and her relentless crusade against HIV/AIDS during a time when it was highly stigmatised and still considered a death sentence. Following the path of the likes of Wole Soyinka, Chinua Achebe, Ngugi wa Thiongo, Grace Ogot and Marjorie Oludhe Mcgoye before her, Dr Ogola was instrumental in propelling African literature to a vast international audience. This insightful documentary delves into the mind of a woman of intense vision, passion and faith, we get a glimpse of her philosophy on life and her prophetic and almost poetic acknowledgement of her own mortality.

Take heart Jeff. Your mom inspired a generation through her work and faith as well as writings. We remember and honour her memory as our mother and our very own Gianna Beretta Molla especially for the various causes we hold dear to us

If there's one person who shaped my life positively, Margaret Ogola is up there. She was all I ever admired in a human being. Right from my decision to be a doctor to the person I married, she had real influence on me. RIP, we will see you on that day

"I love the children because they have taught me more than what I have been able to give them which is a very limited amount of medical knowledge"
I love such kind of humility she had.

In T Falls high Margaret was the head girl me head boy. We both members of Christian union and left the same year when she joined alliance. We met briefly before she joined the university. This U Tube documentary enlightened me about her live thereafter. She was bright loving and serious in whatever she did. Thanks Jeff for this work.
