If you are studying the play and don't want to read it, this might help you. But if you are studying Brechtian theatre, look elsewhere. This is not an example of Brecht's style of theatre.
I don't agree that this isn't Brecht's style of theatre. What differs from performance to performance is the style of the production. This, for example is very different from Brecht's work with Kurt Weill but it's a good example of Brecht's way of using European peasant settings. My own play 'The Bitter Taste of Coal' uses many of the theatrical approaches Brecht. Simplicity - can be done without set or props. Accessibility - using the language of ordinary people. A small cast - actors can play several roles. Music is simple and unadorned and highlights themes of the play. It's 'People's Theatre' where the 'magic' of theatrical effects isn't used to hide the reality of stagecraft. It's made for putting on in bars or village halls.
Poor old Brecht. He wrote with such humanity and was amazed that people couldn't see them as lectures. How can you create a situation where a child is the centre and expect people to remain alienated. Humans can't do it. We see a child not a metaphor.
"In the dark times
Will there also be singing?
Yes, there will also be singing
About the dark times."
Aka “hello darkness smile friends”
My favourite play those days at secondary school
I have done this book exam in our country national level and it was interesting
