My first consideration in team building is lore-friendly rapport pairings, Fire Emblem style 😃

One thing i appreciate in Unicorn Overlord is how it naturally gives characters classes that synergise well with characters they are close to. (At least on Expert, i am not touching True Zenoiran, since Expert is the right mix of difficuilty and relaxation for me)
Alain and Lex are sparring partners and make for excellent co-tanks with one covering the other.
Fran, Miriam and Kitra have a solid mix of offense and defense.
Clive, Adel and Berenice make for a quick sweeping team.
Melisandre is an excellent dodge tank, while Corm covers her ranged weakness.
Ochlys and Sharon make for an excellent dodge-tank and heal combo. Same goes for Hilda and Primm.
Aubin, Magellan, Liza and Gloucester were doing work instantly the moment i put them together and deployed them. Same goes for Celeste, Gamel and Mandrin.
Travis perfectly enables Berengaria to do her worst and Berengaria can perfectly protect him and Bruno.
The only pairing that are a bit at odds with one another is Gilbert and Aramis, which also makes sense given their history. And still all it needs is a little initiative fix for Gilbert to make it work.^^

my teams are generally nuke enemies before they respond but are capable to handling the response in case the nuke doesnt totally wipe the board due to whatever circumstance. I generally have different roles that i require every team to have with some units capable of taking more than one role:
    1. the board nuker (or an efficient row or column nuker)- this is the squad's main dps. examples here include: yunifi, hilda with dragoon spear, rosalinde, eltolinde, bruno, morard, bertrand, snipers with trapper's bow, gryphon masters, great knights, amalia and alain.
    2. secondary nuker- this is for when the 1st nuker doesnt kill everyone. see the list above.
    3. cleanser- this is to prevent the team from suffering from start of battle effects like dragon's roar, cursed swamp, sneaking edge, etc or having their combos countered by featherbows, wereowls, etc. these are typically elven archers, eltolinde or scarlett, ramona, sanatio, etc with the purifier staff.
    4. buffer/debuffer- their role is to boost the nuker/secondary nuker or debuff high def enemies. examples here include: gilbert, elven fencers with conferral tomes, govil, elven archers, aubin, raenys, featherswords, selvie and amalia.
    5. end of battle healer- their role is to make sure everyone is at a decent health at the end of battle to survive assists/enemy offense. examples here include: scarlett, sainted knights, ramona. sanatio, elven archers.
    6. evade tanks- best kind of tanks to nullify enemy offense. ideally someone who flies and/or has a shield too. my top examples here include: gryphon masters, featherswords, sanatio, ramona, scarlett, liza/berengaria with the mirage shield, fodoquia and raenys.
example of a team that covers all of the above:
frontline: scarlett with purifier staff (evade tank, healer, cleanser), fodoquia (evade tank, cover for backline)
backline: rosalinde (board nuker, start of battle, leader), amalia (secondary nuker, debuffer), govil (buffer, gambler's coin user)

I have never wanted a game to get DLC like I have with Unicorn Overlord.

I don't think it will get dlc and I'm not sure how it would work but I think it would be cool.
The most fun thing for me would probably be a randomizer where what units you unlock are random or something. Might make a fun experiance but maybe a little op

Im still in the early stages of the game and I came looking for a video that can slow down all the available tactics that have been thrown at me so far. I think this video helped me understand a bit more about the tactics. and Im glad im not the only one who doesnt care about using Lex lol

Great video with some good advice on team building; very informative with solid baseline teamline development.
    BUT....
Bruh you need to put some love on Lex. Lex is a fighter class. Fighters are basically designed for tanking, but more specifically for tanking ranged attacks and protecting your flyers.
It could be argued that legionaires are the better tanks, but that isnt always the case if you build your fighter properly.
The defender skill as an opening attack grants the user an additional PP if it hits and grants an additional 50% Phy Def. and should always be your opener.
Shield bash is a great skill for keeping enemies incapacitated.
But where the fighter really shines is in their passive skill provoke. On the map it's great for pulling enemies out of towers but in a match it's awesome for pulling all opponent attention to the fighter. So if you use it on enemies that have column attacks and place them in a column by themselves, or row attacks and put them in a row by themselves, they can effectively eliminate multi-ally attacks with the exception of attacks that divide and hit x amount of people randomly.
So for my Lex I equip him with a runic sword to take out armored foes, blessed shield to restore 10% hp every time he acts, cloth gauntlets for increased guard rate, and the citadel guard sabatons which grant the skill guarding impetus which grants the user +1AP every time they guard an attack.
Place him in a row or column by himself, provoke all enemies to attack him, restore AP when guarding attacks, and keep high initiative or high attack power units stunlocked while the rest of the team is free to do their business.
The higher initiative and evasion stats of the fighter over the legionaire, and the provoke capability make them preferable tanks when utilized with a flying group or when you want to keep enemy focus away from a particular party member.

I think fighter is easily the worst class in the game imo. Even in its niche there are better options for every situation

    • @anthonyball1901
      @anthonyball1901 Před měsícem +4

@purplatypus7405 I suppose that can be true. I think it's possible the fighter class may have been deliberately designed that way because Lex is your tutorial for "how not to be" and it just became his class's whole spiel, kinda like how Yamcha was really great in DB but then after the DBZ Saibaman debacle essentially became the joke character.
But I personally find them to have much more utility than they're given credit for and are my preferred tank for dealing with anything ranged or flying, due to their higher initiative and accuracy. They also make great sacraficial pawns when dealing with foes who are much stronger or when you need to keep someone else alive long enough to pull off an additional move. Though admittedly they become less useful as your unit size grows and more slots get filled up, lowering their capacity to prevent other members from being struck. It's a shame that they dont really acquire much of their utility until after they can be promoted and into the lv20s. Early game they would be absolute clutch in those parties of 3.

One of squads that I like and easy to use from early to late game is berengaria as main tank and damage dealer. What to do is simple, put many other unit with affliction to trigger her passive "sanguine pursuit" to deal damage and heal herself. She can tank almost anything, her passive "painbringer" Give more ap and stack attack, and you can put viking to make sanguine pursuit can't be shield by enemy

I was doing the same strategy, but I wouldn't invest too much into her early on since she leaves the army for a while.

Can’t say for sure but seems to be between 10 to 20% stat increase they get. HP is excluded from this boost, but not sure for the other defensive stats.

Why does everyone hate on lex lmao is this a meme? Fighter is absolutely better than hoplite when it comes to frontline tanking up until bastorias. For a good 3/5 of the game, lol. The nope owls hard counter fighters, but for the most part my lex has been able to tank even elf teams with ease.
Lex is the frontline for my cavs and doom knight, but as long as you have something to intit fix him he will perform. I use the wing Shawl on him to give him 15 init on defensive slash, which is important to the strategy. Instead of lex healing through damage with sanguine blade, I have him heal through stacked 10% heal on attacks. Since his defense is naturally high when buffed, he will heal himself while the backline cleans up. Bucklers have the early advantage over greatshields because you can tailor the buckler for the type of enemy lex is tanking. If you put phantom shield and salamander ring on lex he will have just as much mdef as your shaman, while still boosting his defense to tanky enough levels using defender or his base attack. Magic does 2x damage to him but that also applies to hoplite. The difference is lex has enough physical attack to make a difference. This matters more before you can get your big damage online. The other benefit fighters have is their ability to completely neutralize ranged damage skills. No matter how powerful or what the effect, arrow cover just eats the skill if it says (ranged).

    • @purplatypus7405
      @purplatypus7405  Před měsícem +1

Lex is bad because tanking is usually bad and just killing everything is better. when it comes to tanking he does not protect other units. Maybe if he has his int fixed and gets his own def buff he can absorb more physical damage than a hoplite but row guard is better overall
also hoplites are super bad as well honestly. Just tanking damage outside of maybe alain is pretty bad. evasion tanks or killing the enemy is typically much better
