    I disagree with Stephen on the idea that players don’t want to go because of trumps behaviour. They don’t want to go because they believe he is a racist and a republican which is the party that many portray as the party that works against minority’s. Additionally going to the White House would lose respect of their supporters because of trumps polarising status.

  • @goshenfilms
    @goshenfilms Před 6 lety +2

    I am not a Trump supporter but I like and appreciate justice. Max said that he has a problem with normalizing substandard behavior, standards that we hold on to and teach our children. So, I wonder, those NBA and NFL stars, are they behaving in ways that meet our "standards"? most if not all NBA players curse during games, throw tantrums, mock other players. Lets go to their private lives, are they role models? how about NFL players? I know that I should not generalize but the reality is that most NBA players behave worse than Trump both publicly and in their private lives. But then again, we do live in a society filled with double standards.

    Trump doesn't let reporters speak at his press conferences without being extremely rude and condescending to them, and interrupting them whenever he wants (even in the middle of questions). What makes Charles Barkley think he won't do the exact same with NBA players when they attempt to engage in civil discourse?

      Its not about changing his mind. It's about having the opportunity to talk about things you dislike ON HIS FACE. That's the ultimate platform you could have to make a change. See the problem? Players want to take a knee during the anthem to "protest", but they're cowards to meet the president AND PROTEST IN HIS FUCKING FACE. COWARDS.

    Instead of protesting the National Anthem, the NFL should sit down with Congress and make a real change. Make laws to change the polices protocols to stop police brutalities.
    All these analysis on ESPN and other networks are all confined by their PC networks being fearful of losing their jobs.

    • @Cmorrison626
      @Cmorrison626 Před 6 lety +1

      Vince Nguyen how do you legislate the misuse of a firearm by a police officer? When police break laws that are currently in place, they don't get indicted and when they do they get lesser sentences than someone who runs a dog fighting ring (think Michael Vick). You don't think someone has considered and tried your "if you really want to see change," by-the-book approach? If it were as easy as what the casual CZcams commenter can come up with, we as a nation wouldn't be where we are.

    • @deets987
      @deets987 Před 6 lety

      because protesting athletes, and intelligent politicians capable of making a change are two very different things. it doesnt take a genius to know that theres something wrong with the current state of race relations in america. but i guarantee you that not a single one of those guys has any good ideas on how to fix it.
      as it stands, all they can do is open a conversation about it. i think they went about doing that in a wierd way with protesting the national anthem, which is a much more divisive thing to do than was necessary. but regardless, they did their part in drawing enough attention to make it a common discussion. so now its up to the people who actually know what theyre talking about and dont get their money playing with a football to start making those changes.

We are told by White House staff” so that argument about talking to the president about racism is void. You don’t think a grown man doesn’t know about racism he has a tv like everyone else, he has a Twitter like everyone else. How is it substandard behavior when you tell it like it is. The players in the NFL who wont unify with their fellow Americans, and stand for our anthem, are SOB's. How can you preach unity, but yet not join your countrymen in one of the very few things that we share in common? This is the problem. That flag, and that anthem was kept so that we could be reminded of the freedom that we all want, and the sacrifices that have been made along the way. I'm not saying we have perfected freedom, but we all still need to be proud Americans. Because someday we will overcome this ignorant thing called race. We will forget all our differences, and embrace our homeland that we share. this is America... and we are all humans here.

    Now im not saying curry is stupid. in fact he seems like one of the more intelligent, put together nba players. but go listen to the vast majority of players talk about things other than basketball, and think honestly if thats who you want representing you. hell, people keep talking about how smart and articulate kyrie is and the dude doesnt make any damn sense and thinks the earth is flat lol.
    And on top of that (specifically pertaining to the issue of racism towards black americans) guys like curry, KD, and lebron damn sure dont go through the same struggles as the majority of the impoverished black community, so why should they be expected to speak on it over someone who doesnt make hundreds of millions and that it actually affects. they get paid to entertain and distract from all the bullshit going on in the world. let them do that and leave the political changes to people who study and get paid for that.

    Under normal circumstances I'd agree with Barkley's position, but Steph and the GSW would benefit Trump through free publicity just for showing up. Steph said months ago he disliked Trump cuz of his comments on women. Why would Steph give a free gift to Trump and have a photo shaking his hand? Please

      Daz (1) you don't need to use all-caps like a 5-year-old, it doesn't make your points any stronger or make you look any smarter 2) I never said Trump "needs" media attention. But whether he needs it or not, why would Steph help him out in any way by going and giving him that free publicity? Steph said months ago he's not going cuz of Trump's comments on women. Considering how Steph feels about his daughters, wife, and mother, why would he even shake this man's hand? He's not contractually obligated to do it, so he's not going to. Now Trump wants to act like he's the one taking away the invitation lol ok...

      Daz I'm telling black people how they protest? 😂 name one time I brought up race? You won't be able to, because I didn't, your mind for some reason just decided to go there. I was clearly defending Steph's decision, which you condescendingly and arrogantly try to misconstrue. "Steph was talking from a position of entitlement/expectation"? You clearly haven't been following competitive sports very long. It's an annual tradition for the champions of the NBA, NFL, and various other pro and college leagues to go visit the White House the year they win. It's not a "presumption" or a leap to assume that tradition would go on. Tom Brady was asked literally the exact same question every time he won the Super Bowl, even before an official invitation came from the White House. In this case,Steph was ASKED point blank by a reporter in July whether or not he'd go, and Steph said he didn't want to. What exactly would you want Steph to say to make you feel more comfortable??? "Steph started it"? He was asked whether he'd go if the White House kept the annual tradition (again, the reporter presumed in the question the invite would come). Steph gave his answer and a reason why. If Steph said he would go I wouldn't say shit about it. The reason this is a story now is because Trump once again wanted to get the last word in and posterize and sent out that ridiculous tweet. Don't get mad that all these athletes are coming to Steph's defense. Trump did this to himself...

      Daz ….either you have reading comprehension issues or are just typing with pure emotion and not paying attention. I’m the one who said it was a reasonable expectation for Steph to assume he would get invited based on the reporter’s question and based on it being an annual tradition. YOU are the one who called him “entitled” for assuming he’d be invited, like he was sooo arrogant for thinking he'd get an invite. 😂 You’ve got some nerve calling other people high. Let's be real, you’re not mad because Steph assumed he was invited, you’re mad because Steph threw shade and made that “ass-et” comment. Ok, that’s fine. I never called Steph a “victim” but I am definitely calling Trump an embarrassment. Trump supporters criticize his “haters” for being weak and thin-skinned? GTFO look at the public responses the President gives out every time he feels the slightest bit offended. When Obama was president, Trump and millions of his supporters accused Obama of not being born in this country (ZERO evidence to back that claim up). I don’t recall Obama throwing shade on social media because he felt offended.
      I agree with your second comment that it would be nice if sports was pure and I don't get my political views from them, I just call it how i see it. Steph Curry’s “ass-et” comment doesn't come anywhere close to Trump’s comments directed at NBA and NFL players in the past few months.

    When Stephen A mentioned G Dubya Bush, I just had the scariest, thought. What if Trump had,or gets, a guy line Cheney in his ear. Then I thought, he might already have one, with all his talk of nuking enemies. Christ, once he feels the walls closing too tight, we might be truly fucked.

    If you’re not going to engage a person and try to talk some sense into them, then how do you expect them to change? I’m sorry; we are stuck with him at least another 3 years, and not engaging him except when you have something hostile to say won’t change anything. If anything it’s going to make him worse as he will just pander to the people who voted for him. It’s going to be hard for him to have empathy for anyone who isn’t willing to share their point of view
