  • Hey everyone! Here are my thoughts on the Veritas Standard Angle Block Plane with the optional PMV11 steel 50 degree blade. As always it seems like Veritas has outdone themselves when it comes to quality and features in this little plane!

    Thinking of getting their low-angle jack and maybe the block plane too.

    I have been holding off spending money on the many Veritas goodies I want. I noticed they changed the three dots side details to one scalloped side grip. Looks like it’s on both the normal and low-angle. Kind of weird for me because the three dots had been around for a decade and is recognizable.

      I saw that and I’m not sure how I feel about it yet because I haven’t been able to get one but knowing veritas they are always trying to be the most innovative and efficient so I’m sure they have their reasons. They used to have a gloss finish on them and then they changed to a matte which is better in my opinion so hopefully this will be another good change.

    Woohoo

    I have yet to buy one... Someday.... Those set screws are nice.....
    That worked really well on the shooting board... It did alright on the end grain.......I need a baby plane... Like a number 1

    You have a ton of Planes! I thought this has happened before on one of your other cheaper planes? I guess quality control could save them a few dollars.

      Haha you can never have enough! The difference in the cheaper plane is that it took almost 3 months to get here and it was worse than the first where as this one in every way is substantially higher quality and Will last way longer.

    I have absolutely no complain concerning the veritas block plane quality & it made me a pmv11 fan. Just for me it’s too big and heavy for one hand use “in the air” (without support & work on the piece directly) and I prefer the number 3 for two handed use. I think I’m gonna sell it to buy a smaller 101/102 or the veritas apron or pocket plane specifically for one hand uses

    Hey im not sure if youll even see this 2 yrs post video but you seem to know a ton. I lost the knuckle cap, adjuster and blade and just got new from Lee valley. The blade does not want to fit through the mouth if the plane anymore. Am i doing something dumb or do you think they may have sent me something wrong.

      Hey so if your version looks like mine it is the previous model. They released an updated version not too long ago so maybe they sent you one that is for the newer model?

    What is the lever cap made out of? Aluminium or steel?

    • @matthewvick4930
      @matthewvick4930  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks for the question! To my knowledge it is Ductile cast iron. It’s much better than the aluminum Stanley variant.

      @@matthewvick4930 Thank you Matthew, that was exactly what I was wondering considering that the Stanley Sweetheart uses aluminium for that part, which I don’t like. In all it is of course not on the same build quality as the Veritas 🙂

      should be made of the same material as the body

    I just got a Veritas low angle which was garbage. Had to spend a lot of time flattening the sole.

      I’m sorry that happened. You should contact customer service. They are excellent and would have probably sent you a brand new one. When I got mine in that had the paint defects they were very quick to send me a new one.

    This is a low angle bevel up no?

    • @matthewvick4930
      @matthewvick4930  Před 9 měsíci

      It’s the standard angle bevel up. They do make a low version as well that is amazing.

    Pitting in the casting is not a damaged plane

    • @matthewvick4930
      @matthewvick4930  Před 2 lety +1

      There was more than just pitting on the plane. If I had ordered it in their “seconds” sale then I would expect that but paying full price for a premium plane I’d like to be the one to ding it up if you get what I’m saying.
