It's unique. It stands out in all the other bullshit. It's almost like an old radio show, only we get to see them.
This shouldn't go back to the same format that's dominated for decades.Something special will die. Somebody needs to do something. An online movement needs to start to get their attention.
I prefer this type of opening. Makes me feel like im there participating rather then watching a show. Like hanging with the buds. Rather have this than a script.
Without an audience, this has turned into the best late night show on television.
Nick: I got a call from the sales department today, they were very nice but they said " Nick be smart about what you say on the air"
James: Can we take the show to space with Tom Cruise ?
Nick: Of course, yes absolutely let's go to space I'm already there practically

Nick should never think such requests are just jokes from now on.....
If you can't tell the crew members by their laughs by now, just keep watching. Because once you do, the laughs will just hit harder.

James made the show like a sitcom where we the audience would actually tune in what's gonna happen on the next episode because they will create or start something that would actually leave the audience laughing and wanting for more. The Interesting Life of Susan, Guillermo's baby, Patti Lupone and Dave's Friendship,. Now this Cruise endeavor. We are all committed to know what's gonna happen next! 😂
The anticipation for a week's worth of shows recorded on a cruise ship is definitely a draw.
Honestly, they can't go back to the old James-only format now that we've gotten to know the crew so I intimately, even if they wanted to. People would be kept awake at night, wondering...
Is Lauren still pissed off about stuff?
Is Ian still keeping his weight down?
Is Guillermo still passing around special apple juice?
Did Nick eventually cut his hair, after all?
It's sort of become an addictive soap opera, really.
....and the biggest question of all, did Dave ever do brunch with Patti Lupone?

every other i keep saying the same thing like most of people here, this format HAS TO STAY. i didn't like this show prepandemic and right now its the best late show out there. the vibe is so genuine and natural + the on going gags... pure gold and reading most of the other comments, eveyone loves it. Keep it up guys and don't change!
So true! I'm kind of glad that I didn't initially give James a chance because I liked Craig Ferguson. In quarantine I've been binging all the episodes of the Late Late Show. James and his crew are the best!
Agree completely. Pre-pandemic the jokes were too scripted and were not funny. Now, I never miss a show. Pure gold. Seth Meyers is the same, although I did find him funny pre-pandemic. He and James are the break-out stars of pandemic late night. (on the other hand, Colbert is dreadful. I have completely stopped watching. And both Jimmy's were fun at the beginning but since going back to the studio, the shows are unbearable to watch. The exaggerated fake laughs from the crew are so annoying, but I digress 😔)
I like this format because it feels like James is able to enjoy himself with his friends and not entertain an audience. James and the crew are naturally funny, and them being in a comfortable space makes me feel like I’m part of the show.

I know it might be a bit controversial but I started watching The late late show when Craig was a host. And I always loved how relaxed he was... so this type of format reminds me of that show (especially because of the sound effects box) and how everyone was having fun at their job and not making “fun” their job.
They probably will get an audience back because that’s how talk shows work but I seriously hope James will keep interacting with the crew as he is now.
Agreed. It feels like Craig’s show which is a high bar to reach. This format is light years better than the pre pandemic format.
I love this because the creative process is out there for everyone to see. It’s almost like they just took their board meetings and put it into the show.
Nick needs to make regular appearances on the show. Love his quiet humor and... his hair.

I love the addition of Nick in the studio this week. It's kind of amazing that even in his position of having to rein in this awesome and absurd crew, he seems like a really delightful human who's pretty game for being in the mix with all their ridiculousness.
I truly love the chemistry of this whole work fam. I wish they'd had that convo about Rob's vow renewal scheme on air...I can only imagine... Haha. 😄

🛳JAMES ... ADVICE from a real sea captain ... the cruise ship horn works! FYI : International Rules say that when the ship operator “sounds” the horn “three short blasts” that means the ship is in reverse. This may be useful for do overs. One long blast means that your ship is underway. Nice show.

You know, maybe if James threatens to incrementally raise the chairs of the rest of the CBS late night board if they bring back an audience... they might cave in and let them keep this format.
to be fair, would an audience hamper this format? they'd sit on the rows behind the cameras and staff anyway so if they're fine just sitting there and letting the crew do their thing it shouldn't matter much.
@@benzaiten933 With a studio audience, James and crew perform for the audience. Without an audience, they're just trying to make each other laugh. It's cozier, more informal, like hanging out with friends.

I never really paid much attention to late night shows before... but I'm now on here every day seeing the new video because this pandemic-safe format is hilarious. Leave the audience at home - this show right now is a gem.
Imagine just tuning in to this show, not having any context, and there's a dude who is in a chair tall enough to hit the ceiling.
This is the highlight of every morning. Nick is amazing, I hope he keeps coming on the show every day, the crew are hilarious. Definitely want to be picked to go on the cruise (it'll be like Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, they did a show on a Cruise). Fins Up!!!!

But if it happens the crew is good to go and laughing the whole time which makes it even funnier. We all have a bit if HAM in us. Keep this format I so look forward each night to watching the show.
