If you ever do need to add hot water to normal glass, (not heat safe glass like oven proof or candle vessels) put a spoon in it first, the heat goes to the metal first. But to get labels off glass, I just score the paper outside with a fork, then soak the bottle or jar standing it in warm water

My dad used to have an old frosted beached glass wine bottle nestled in a piece of driftwood which had partially petrified to stone. Obviously the two objects were married together for years and the waves smoothed it over in the loveliest way, making them one permanent piece. You gave me an idea- perhaps there's a way to recreate that look by frosting a bottle, nesting it on a bed of wood maybe even driftwood and adding cement, even painting hues of coral, rust and tan like petrified wood unil it looks sculptural and organic. It sounds complex but you're talented, I know I can't utilize cement that well! By the way, the bottle in this video is beautiful!

I have decorated many wine bottles. Using many methods, I found this to work best. I let the bottle soak in hot soap & water for a few months minutes. I then start pulling as much as I
can away from the bottle. But I don’t try very hard.
Then I spray WD 40 & let it sit for awhile. That is the easiest way to remove a label. Once in awhile I have a bottle that the glue residue is so stubborn that I also use a little glue be gone. Works great!

If you have an UBER sticky residue type label, use a thin film of peanut butter spread over the residue and leave for 48 hours (you can put cling film over the PB so as to not have it touch anything as well as keep the PB oils and smells inside!) if it is an entire label that is one of THOSE labels, just score it a bunch without scratching the glass depending on craft, and put PB on a bit thicker and let sit with cling wrap for 3-4 days (Check it as much as you want to see if you can get some off a bit every day!) and then it should wash right off with hot water and a scrub with soap!!! Heck of a do NOTHING kind of way to clean off a label. Minimal elbow grease and the cost of a tblsp of PB!!!! WORTH IT!!!

This appears to be an excellent method for turning an ordinary wine bottle and some cement into an ordinary wine bottle with some unsightly cement stuck on top of it. The design does have one redeeming quality in that the resulting instability is likely to see it tumbling off the worktop counter at the first opportunity (possibly of it's own volition) thereby putting an end to it's existence. Maybe I'm just not very artistic, but I think I'll just empty the wine bottle and have Amazon deliver a vase.
