Reacting v Responding

  • The ability to step back from situations and respond in a measured fashion is perhaps more important than ever these days. There are times when we should react, and so definitely times when little or no thinking is essential. I don’t mean to suggest that reactions and habits are bad. However, I am suggesting that they can be. Raising our awareness and being more able to manage our emotions, and not be bounced from reaction to reaction is in my opinion a good skill to master.

Great talk Mike. This is probably one of the most overlooked views that we can learn about. It's always a little awkward to begin to look at oneself with a constructive observational point of view. To catch ourselves in the moment of a situation that would expose our own 'faults' or 'mistakes' is something I feel is rather challenging to do, but the more we begin to try to observe situations with a focus on what we might be doing that isn't so beneficial to certain situations, the more potential we have to learn very important and life changing things about the way that emotions can rule our lives 😅.
Ty for bringing this subject to light in the way that you have done so masterfully, it's definitely food for thought and there's a huge potential for us all to learn some amazing lessons. Have a great day Mike🙏💚❤️⭐

Thank you very much Ben. I really appreciate you taking the time to write. Yes, I think particularly at the moment, many of us are falling into the trap of pointing at others, getting into the ‘blame game’ (which of course may in some cases be understandable) but we may also be failing to consider our own potentially incorrect perspectives and of course what things we may have done to create at least some of what we see around ourselves.
