Stay safe and take care,
Martin.
Great lessons Martin , for someone like me trying to learn song writing , and arranging .
DUDE! My fave episode yet. I"m a Hard Rock and Metal guy, progressive in the mix. Old and new schools both. This episode struck me the most though. I was not aware how much swing and groove was already in my playing. This made it fairly obvious. Thanks @Martin Miller and @Mark Lettieri for enlightening about myself :P
I forget where I heard this, but "your left hand is what you know, your right hand is who you are"
Now, that got me thinking. Interesting.
Wann't that chris buck?

So much patience and respect from Martin here. Mark didn't want to 'teach' Martin or to patronise him in any way BUT... Martin was trying to slow him down so us mere mortals could follow. Martin waited for a gap and then slipped it in where he could. Great interview technique Martin, well done. Mark, your playing is emotional even when you're doodling!
I definitely slowed him down so I could catch up 😂
@@MartinMillerGuitar ... and so we could see how it was broken down. Well done Martin I really enjoyed watching.
Thanks a lot!

Mark is a master at mute control on the strings.
Every master player is a master at muting strings 😁

Mr Lettieri is quite possibly the grooviest guitar player in the history of music.
Almost but there is Greg Howe on this planet ;)
Paul Jackson Jr has been doing it better than anyone for decades
@@80three57 I'm a huge fan of Paul Jackson and he's indeed very funky. Have you checked out his parts on Natalie Cole's Pink Cadillac (the album version)?
Lettieri is very clinical in his playing, very precise. I myself find players with a bit more swing to be more groovy. I personally think John Mayer is the grooviest guitarist of our time.
@@caliathleticfitness5602 I don't know if this makes sense as English is not my native language, but I make a difference between "timing" and "groove" where groove is more about rhythm playing and the picking hand plays the main role. I admire John Mayer very much and think he has great timing, but I have not heard him play rhythm grooves like Mark L and Paul J. I don't doubt Mr Mayers ability, I just haven't heard him do that groove thing.
Martin I love your humility! A genius learning from another genius!!!
Lettieri….Just an incredible Guitarist…Class, dynamic, touch…👍🏻👍🏻
Damn, I never thought a rhythm lesson would rock my world. 6 minutes in and guitar us already in hand. Thank you for these lessons
Man, I have you to thank for introducing me to Mark with the Purple Rain cover video, his solo had me absolutely floored and I’ve been a fan ever since. Really cool to see you two just jamming and sharing knowledge like this, great video Martin!
Martin, thanks for sharing this! Mark is like you! A freaking amazing musician!
Awesome stuff!...it's great to analyze and break things down this way as sometimes we tend to do things on guitar as second nature but our learning of "why" and "how" we do things increases as we dig further into our playing. I really enjoyed this, made me think about my own rhythmic guitar playing and added some extra ideas to keep adding spice to my chops.
I also like the respect you two show for each other as musicians...it's always good to have that kind of relationship and camaraderie without feeling like it's a competiton of who's better or who knows more...just playing and sharing ideas and growing together...it's what music is all about... Thanks to both of you for this video!
I think Mark wrote about 6 or 7 songs that can instantly go on an album here hahahaha, amazing ! Martin, this is excellent stuff, thank you so much for doing this and please keep'em coming !
So many great moments in this video. Martin is such a great teacher AND student.
Mark is phenimenal. I first saw hm in Purple rain and his solo brought tears to my eyes.
Thanks Martin for this excurse,
Mark is one of my most favourite guitarist and I enjoyed very much.
Its quiet interesting how individual is the tone of everyone playing finger style, especially seeing/hearing this at you both guys with such a high technical level.
me haces tan feliz Martin Miller.
Thank you guys!
This was amazing! Thanks for setting this up! I feel like there are a lot of lead guitar lessons out there but very few on intermediate/advanced rhythm guitar like this one..very very cool! I'd love to see more rhythm lessons if you feel like making more!
love it, great stuff
thanks Martin and Mark!
That's in a nutshell what absolutely fascinates me in Marks playing. Just. Wow.
Many thanks Martin and Mark! Really great stuff!
martin you onto something big with this series
This was ABSOLUTELY FUN AND INSIGHTFUL!! Lots of great musical ideas instead of widdly widdly monotony. Thank you Martin and Mark for all of this brilliant expertise.
These are really good keep it up. Its awesome to see someone put themselves out of there comfort zone in the name of learning for the masses.
this is GREAT!
Yeah yeah! More of this lesson-type stuff Martin!
Awesome format Mr. Miller! Enjoyed it very much!
Martin ! Great subject matter ! Very cool to see that rhythmic evolution behind mark’s leads, especially seeing his performance with easy lover, definitely helps explain the origin and perhaps the roots from his rhythms, especially the percussive nature of his playing….. so cool, love to see more from you guys together, like fire and ice!
That was fascinating! I was glued to the screen the whole time.
Appreciate alot that you are open to other guitarists approaches at your level, and not let the ego dictate instead. Even if it's a tenth percent of someones concept you take with you in your "backpack" that's valuable. And you are probably very aware of that too Martin, otherwise you wouldn't take these lessons.
This is like watching two highly evolved people having an intelligent conversation, and you're just an ape watching them, and trying to make sense. But I can still appreciate it.
Just sittin' here brushing my teeth and smoking a cig
Thank you so much for doing this Martin🔥🎸
Man this was so fun to watch and learn!
I'm gonna have to watch it a few times, so much stuff! Awesome!
Such a great lesson, lots of fun to watch.

Hi ! I just discovered your channel, and love it. Well, I love Mark, that helps 😉 Nice riff breakdown, cool talks about rhythm, and harmony. Lot to learn, lot to work, really cool. Thanks you guys, the two of you.
Thanks so much
What a cool video - just being open to learning and improving is so great and something we should all strive for!!
Genios, espero otro de clásicos

Awesome!...I have working material for the next 2 years! :D thanks a lot! I love Mark's style!
Fantastic thanks
Thank you, really
I have just started your Guide to Picking Masterclass. There is so much in rhythm. My God. Let's hope I learn the most out of it.
Awesome awesome content! Thanks so much!
Red Dwarf and Star Catchers are my fave from his new album ❤
Very interesting video. Thank you for this
Cool stuff boys! 👍👍👍
Thanks a lot for this !
I loved this. Some really interesting ideas to go away and practise! God knows I need it, my rhythm playing sucks!
cracking session/lesson/conversation between two masters - thanks for setting this up. @Mark Lettieri, Ear of the Puma should definitely make it onto a record and maybe have @Martin Miller take a guest solo :)
love those
damn dude... you get all the greatest!... love it
I've heard Marks name for quite awhile but hadn't checked out his playing. Tasty! really good stuff!
Imagine how much money one would have to pay to enjoy a lesson of this caliber ! Thankful that we are all paying together, :).
It's all about the time. Like a drum fill or pattern. You can tell the difference between a drummer who's trying to cram some chop they learned into a space vs. someone who's listening to the clock in their head and playing to land on the one. Let the ghost notes and such fall where they fit to keep it in time.
Super cool video series, really enjoying it! Would be great if you could do one video about country guitar some day.
Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this even if I had no idea what y'all were doing.
I don't always play air guitar, but when I do, I pretend I'm Mark...
When you guys cover Purple Rain, i really gives the goosebumps 🤟🤟🤟🤟🎸
"Yeah. Where do you want em?"... Mark's effing dedpan response was gold. I was laughing so hard. @ 40:03
Obwohl ich keine E-Gitarre spiele, hab ich das Video einfach gefeiert! Vielen Dank für's Hochladen!! Ein sehr wertiges Video
Great video man 😍👌🏻
Crazy Frets on Martin´s Guitar
Best ever 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼... Hats off ..... Matching guitars .👍🏼👍🏼😂 Cool stuff
Very nice Video my Friend 👍
Wow, thanks for this amazing and groovy lesson. Very cool. It looks a bit like a guitar shop in mark's room :-D A very impressive guitarist
Mark please 🙏 finish ear of the puma. Love this rif. This as a full track with the session band would be awesome
Hi! I'd like to know when is "Ear of the Puma" going to come out? 🤔 Can't wait to hear it! Great videos Martin!
👍✌😎 great lesson, thankyou
i love this format Martin ;) thanks a lot for sharing !! i'd like see Guthrie Govan teach you something !!😍
I have the same chair that Mark has - now to work on the chops part....
What chair is that!?
What chair/model is it?
Haha that's awesome...I'm lucky to be on the same planet as him. Uh, what are chops?
please cover Always gonna love you-Garry Moore
Great stuff! 👍
Martin appears to have lots of nervous energy. I think it would be easier to watch if he was calmer. But the contribution of both guys is much appreciated. Respect.
I WANT A ULTIMATE SCORPIONS MEDLEY IN MY DESK AND I WANT IT NOW!
Pretty cool Sir!!! , 😊🥁🇵🇭
I'd really like to hear Ear of the Puma developed into a full song! Maybe another lesson in how to take a riff idea and put it all together?
"Pooma"!..lol
Top!!!!
Whoa! Is that a natural colored Fiore behind Mark!? I want one like that! (If thats what it is.)
He doesn't need to practise with the metronome. The metronome practises with him.
The Atomic Clocks are calibrated by Mark's timing
That looping part at 33:13 ... man, that boogies!
Thanks for the awesome lesson! Two guitar wizards come together, too cool! I'm trying to follow the theory comments, but it's hard! For ex. in the part at around 30:00 I don't see it as D/F with an added 9, why can't it be simply Fmaj7? I think Martin you even explain it as 5-1-3-7 (as in intervals).
Anyway I thoroughly enjoyed the lesson! Greetings from Austria!
bEAUTIFUL SOUND) thank you❤😏👏👍
They say never meet your heroes, but I met Mark Lettieri at NAMM, and he was super nice.
I met him at the show to release The Deep Vol 2 and he was too cool. Autographing albums and taking pictures. Very awesome dude.
Please. Cover YES - CHANGES & OWNER OF A LONELY HEART
When they say a solo guitarists are superior to rhythm players. This video is proof that is not always the case.
well rhythm guitarists get alot more calls.
This got a huge like before you started your first sentence 🙂
Martin dude!! LOVE the frets how they're laid out, is that designed to affect the tone or simply for aesthetic purposes
it's to achieve perfect tuning. guitar frets are inherently not in tune. if you tune the open strings to be perfectly in tune then certain notes along the frets won't. so they do these compensated frets to be more in tune. some people like it some don't. it just doesn't sound like the guitar timbre your ears are accustomed to. the chords ring out almost like a keyboard
I would like to know what chair Mark is using, anyone knows? Thanks for the help.
Mark has a PRS which the mic position is actually accesible. Fuck PRS for not doing this on all of his guitars. (i'm saying this as a 7string PRS owner).
I loved your video Martin, awesome.
