I think the one with the embarassing christmas photo is because many confused it with another episode, the christmas special ("Christmas Who?") where Spongebob starts crying after Santa doesn't come, and Squidward takes a photo of him while he is standing next to the christmas tree coral, staring with huge crying eyes into the camera. Some might have remembered this photo as the embarassing christmas party photo.

How can so many people collectively remember something that specifically even though it never happened? Not linked to any specific episode, but I could have sworn that there was an interaction between SpongeBob and Patrick that went like this:
    Patrick: (suggests something)
    SpongeBob: "Patrick, you're a genius!"
Patrick: "Yeah, I get called that a lot."
    SpongeBob: "What, a genius?"
    Patrick: "No, Patrick."
And I thought for sure that this happened, so I tried looking it up, and found tons of other people quoting it, only to find that this quote (as far as I can tell) was never said. 5:22 For the shoelaces, the Mandela Effect never occurred to me since I like drawing SpongeBob a lot when I was younger. The look of his shiny black shoes had already been burned to my mind that I am very certain the shoelaces were never present and it was only for the episode's sake.
6:51 For the lipstick, I was also affected as I do remember SpongeBob finishing it, but he says "Coral Blue Number 52". Although, I speculate that I was mixed with the "62 cents" from "Born Again Krabs" because of the emphasis the Dutchman put on saying "62" seemingly fits well with how SpongeBob talks, at least for my young mind, and misremembered the voice as SpongeBob's.
9:33 The gag of cutting the narrator off when saying the Formula was burned into my memory because I saw it in TV first, so I laughed very loudly when it cuts immediately to the episode's special credits sequence. When I was young, I've always lamented that the DVD version didn't include the credits, so the cut-off felt hollow.
10:16 Ironically, I wasn't affected becaus, back then, I felt like they should've added more people complaining since having few people complaining felt like his defeat is a bit lackluster.
12:03 Ngl, I loved Atlantis Squarepantis, so I kinda memorized the entire special and its songs since I've watched it so many times, so nothing really felt off for me.

The biggest one for me out of all of these is definitely SpongeBob's guitar. I remember the V-shaped guitar so vividly, I was stunned when I first learned it was a peanut guitar! I know it's SpongeBob, but the peanut guitar makes the whole thing look weird and, well.. goofy. It was supposed to be an awesome, epic moment, and the V-shaped rocker guitar added to that.
As for the Krusty Krab Training Video, I don't remember the recipe ever being revealed, but it does end MUCH more abruptly than I remembered. Way back when I first watched it, I remember it was like "The Krabby Patty Secret Foruma is...!" and then it ended. But the "is" is cut off so abruptly now, it almost sounds like an editing error. It's a minor change, but it's jarring to hear.

The mandala effect is interesting, because the conclusions that people always imagine always seem to be better versions of what actually happens. Or ones that makes more sense in context.
A wonderful example is the thinker statue, who people imagine to have his chin resting on a closed fist, when in reality, his hand is slumped against his face, in a very illogical manner.
A popular theory is the human brain is so used to filling in the gaps of our memories, that it will correct details that doesn't seem to fit conventional wisdom. It therefore conjures fake memories that make more sense to the individual. Since human brains function similarly, this can happen on a large scale.

And the thing about the blue lipstick, everyone seems to think it was a different number, some people say 5, I’ve seen people say 12 or even 42 a little over a year ago I thought it said “actually it’s coral blue lipstick number 42”, but as I’ve said before, these memories are so old we don’t remember them as vividly as we once did. The ingredients list is likely misremembered due to it being read out in "Plankton's Army."
The scene in "Pickles" is so similar to the fuzzy dice, meat, and muffler scene in "Bubble Buddy"

The Krabby Patty doesn't fall into the machine, however, before Spongebob is about to drop the patty, he apologizes to the patty for letting it down, and proceeds to list off the "ingredients" and even using a real life photo of a krabby patty(like the one in the training video episode).
That's where people remember the formula being revealed.

6:39 I'm from Germany and I also remembered Spongebob saying a different number so I looked it up. And wouldn't you know it: In the German version he actually says "It's coral blue no. 3" the moment he gets hit and I'm shocked to see it not being in the English version aswell. Maybe people mistook the German one for the original somehow. The German word for 3 does sound a bit like the English word for 5 if you don't speak German (both make an 'i' sound). Or it was in the original but then cut out at some point.

I remember in the Valentine’s Day episode, when Patrick goes insane, Patrick said “I despise you heart man!” When he actually said “I defy you heart man!”, it’s a small detail and the most unaired episode so I guess it’s easy to forget such a small detail, but I SWEAR he said despise. I don’t know if it’s just me but I’m pretty sure I’ve heard it before

There was one I remember in the Plankton episode where he has the machine that would tell him what the ingredients of an object he puts in it. I specifically remember at the end where Plankton falls in the machine, the computer (Karen) said he was made up of 50% Plank and 50% Ton. I remember this being funny because at the first object he puts in which is Sea weed and when he put it in it said 50% Sea 50% Weed, so at the end it would’ve showed that even if he did put the Patty into the machine he wouldn’t of gotten the ingredients but rather a variant of that.
However that’s not how the scene goes, in the actual episode Karen says, 10% Evil and 90% Hot gas (Or something around those lines I don’t quite remember) this blew my mind as I didn’t remember it going like that at all.
Besides that though all the other Mandela effects I think were made up to get people talking, I mean of course they never said the secret formula at the end of the episode that was the whole joke!

That snapshot of Spongebob at the Christmas Party one is the most terrifying one because it's been plaguing me for years. I remember seeing him with his pants down in the photo, kinda like in Ripped Pants, but in his house decorated for a Christmas Party as described, even with some of his other friends in the shot. I'm convinced that this was bonus material during the bumpers outside of the episode at some point and I just associate it with the description Patrick gives.

I think a lot of these are age things. When you’re super young, its easy to misremember things. Im old enough to remember when these episodes first aired and a lot of the things that people claim they remember, but never happened, I also know didn’t happen. Especially for older episodes. To the point that Im actually surprised that a lot of these mandela effects are so heavily “remembered”. Like I’ve always remembered Spongebobs guitar in the movie being a peanut, so Im shocked people ever thought it was anything different, especially since the peanut/goofy goober thing was literally a major theme in the movie. Or that people “remembered” Patricks secret photo of Spongebob was ever revealed, when I never recalled that happening. The Pickles episode I remember it happening exactly the way it was shown, and dont recall anything like people adding more things Bubble Bass stole.
Later episodes I can’t speak on, because I stopped watching Spongebob sometime around season 4/5ish, but yeah.

The guitar being purple would have been so weird, too. Purple outfit with a purple guitar? It would have blended in too much whereas the peanut stands out against the outfit. It wouldn't have even made sense colour-wise.

    • @chocolateblocks
      @chocolateblocks Před 6 měsíci +2

that doesn't really explain the mandela effect entirely, though. it's a collective misremembering of the same thing. so it can't just be "its easy to misremember things when youre young"

I was in my early 20’s when the show first aired and I was obsessed with it for a number of years. I’m familiar with all the episodes shown except Atlantis Squarepantis, and the movie. I clearly remember every one of those episodes as they are shown here to have actually happened.

    • @ohmyprettygirl

@@chocolateblocks Its a collective misremembering because most of the people who swear they remembered things differently were toddlers or born after these episodes aired.
A lot of comments I read even have people describing other things they swore happened that weren’t talked about in the video, but I remember them exactly as they aired. At this point people are calling their own personal misinterpretations are Mandela effects. I genuinely just think that some events from other episodes get mixed up with each other. Like, there are a lot of shows I watched as a kid where in specific episodes, I could’ve sworn things happened differently, but once I rewatched it later on I see wasn’t the case. Im not chalking that up as the mandela effect simply because I could’ve sworn it was different.
