The most secluded, beautiful and impossible canal I've ever been on

  • Hi guyz thanks for reading this description. Honestly I've no idea if anyone reads it but here goes. This video was filmed in July when there was a series of heatwaves, so it was red hot hence the short cruising days. And it was the shallowest and weediest canal I've ever come across, but the scenery really made up for it.
Thank you to Emma and Sam from Pub of the Week Melbourne Arms, Malcolm, CRT, PCAS and all the new and old Crank It Crew members who support me on my journey. Right let's throw in some links...
robbiecumming.com is my website and it has links to everything including my music which I use on the videos and other stuff such as merchandise and my TV show Canal Boat Diaries.
Hope you enjoyed watching this video, it's part one so expect the next instalment in a week or so. Until then keep cranking! Cheers!

I really liked the sort of faded, ghostly figure that you had on one of the locks! Kind of reminding me of the age of the canals. A super touch!!!❤😊 You should do it more often.

Your editing in this video is brilliant, some of the shots you took is a feast on the eyes, when you moored up and had the scenery of the fields through the trees, the spider and the scenery from your boat was amazing. More of that please good sir.

It is a beautiful canal. Old canals like that do need some boat traffic, but it also has to be limited to protect the wildlife. The Pocklington Canal is wonderful for wildlife and supports many species that are scarce in the surrounding countryside.
    Nice video.

My wife and I walked the full length of the Pocklington Canal two weeks ago and were on the look out for “The Naughty Lass” but didn’t see her.

    Hydrodynamics is the correct term.

Design decisions that make me wonder what this canal was actually for when it was built. I mean, what kind of chucklehead builds a swing bridge over a lock chamber? Could use some maintenance as well. I didn't even realize there was a tow path there until I saw the guy jogging on it.

Anyway I'm currently on the hunt for my boat, nervous but excited all the same. The lancaster canal by the way is near Lancaster, it starts in Preston as I believe some mush decided to close it off from running through town, of which I'm not part of being a cumbrian lass, but yeah it runs from preston to yeah lancaster but I think up to kendal but not sure on that point. It's only a 41 mile job so there you go. I think il start off on leeds/Liverpool n see what happens haha. Take it easy n happy weekend x

Hi Robbie, I was just researching my family tree and it would appear my 4th Great grandfather was from Bugthorpe, which is quite close to the canal. The reason I mention this is he then makes a journey when at working age and ends up in Patricroft (Bridgewater Canal) where he gets married and starts a family. It wasn't until I saw this video that the penny dropped as to how he travelled that far. Looks like around 1800 when he made the journey. He's clearly used that canal and I wouldn't have realised if not for your video. I wonder what route he did it in ....
