    A tip for the pesky weeds: when weeding the garden, be extra careful that you pull out the whole root of the weed and not just the stem. Sometimes you think you got the whole plant, but nope! If you leave even a little behind, it will regrow infinite more times until you finally remove every last bit.
    I know how annoying those suckers can be, so I hope this has helped a fellow gardener in their war against the weeds!!

      I just flip the weed upside down on top of where it was, smothers anything that might try to come back up and its a natural mulch

    When I do that I mix the flowerseed with grass seed, the flowers still grow normally and the weed has no chance against the grass that is growing with the flowers

      Came to say this, the weeds usually don't grow as tall as the prairie style flowers , just let it mature and deal with them with established wildflowers.

    So lovely to see you growing native wildflowers! Great job!

    This will take probably a couple years for your native, desired wild flowers to outcompete the weeds. Allow everything to get a bit bigger then weed, some weeds will actually kill each other and it’s easier to find/pull the entire root! Then reseed the patches

    Certain "weeds" are native flora to the land too. You might want to read up on them and maybe consider not removing them from your yard along with invasive species. Just a suggestion. Otherwise, love what you're doing. Planting flowers will help pollinators a lot and in the long term create an environment for all sorts of fauna in your yard. Hummingbirds are my visitors.

      Did the research before hand 🙂 and found that the weeds in my lawn are incredibly invasive, edible but soooo invasive, to the point it already choked out certain areas where it wasn't weeded as aggressively

    It’s an endless battle against grasses taking over. It takes maybe 2-3 years to get most of the grass killed so that the wildflowers take all the available room. Plus the weeds. I often wonder how wildflowers thrive on their own 😂

    When you pull weeds lay down carboard or black plastic roll for about a month and than lay your seeds down and you will be fine also you can burn any new weeds as it kills them down to the roots.

    what's the difference between a weed and a wildflower?

    • @ciaragarrity6425
      @ciaragarrity6425 Před 2 měsíci +1

      A weed can be a flower or a tree or even grass that would not be native to the region where one lives, and wildflowers were called wildflowers because those are supposed to be native, growing in the wild where they are. Although many weeds can be showy, and one might not be able to see if it's not native or invasive.

    You should have removed as much of the existing dirt as possible, put down weed tarps, and then replace the dirt with flowering soil mix. You wouldn’t have your weed issue anymore, and your flowers would be a lot more healthy and vibrant.

    • @taxusbaccata6332
      @taxusbaccata6332 Před 6 měsíci +2

      Disagree with most of that. No polluting leeching plastic weed suppression tarps needed. Many of the weeds are local provenance herbaceous plants and are themselves ‘wild flowers’. No need to bring in massive volumes of external potting soil mix, wildflowers thrive on poorer quality soil.

      You are aware that biodegradable natural fiber weed tarps exist, right? How’s that superiority complex treating you?

      Wow !what a response to a conversation. Very rare to find natural fibre weed tarps in garden centres almost all plastic. Cardboard works very well but from my own (limited) experience the fact is you don't need it. You seem to have been upset with my opinion. I hope you will be OK. @@missmarie_8790
