James retired from performing as Marilyn in 1997.
He still performs his show of 'Voices' and his own music. He is currently enjoying the success of a self-penned world-wide hit called "Fashionista" from the album 'Jamestown.' The song is heard in Dance Clubs and fashion shows around the world.
I agree with you XWarumono, I am a huge Marilyn Monroe fan and I usually do not watch impersonations of her, because they are more or less mockeries of her, which I find offensive to her legacy. I think Jimmy James is a Monroe fanatic as we are and attempts to glorify her legacy through his impersonation without making fun of her. He becomes her. That's what I like. A true class act!
You are so right, I have always thought exactly that. Jimmy actually becomes Marilyn, every nuance, every tiny little triat of Marilyn Jimmy had down to perfection. No woman has ever come close to Jimmys tribute to Marilyn and it was DEFINITELY a tribute and not an impersonation. We love you Jimmy.....
Hello Mr. James. I took my Mom to see your show at Studio One, Backlot, in West Hollywood....1988 (thereabouts?)....We had the best time....and my Mom never stopped talking about it. She passed recently, and as I was going through her belongings, I came across some photos of us at that show, and a few we took of you. THANK U EDUARD....Well at the time I was doing it, "drag" was looked down upon. Believe me I worked extremely hard to be accepted. And I was accepted - but to a point. Most parts in movies and film for drag artists were to play murderers. Maybe I changed some minds along the way. Who knows.... opportunities for someone like me during the time of AIDS was very difficult. But believe me I tried and tried. XO

I've been a fan of Marilyn since I was 14 and I'm now 48. My mother was a fan before me. Seen a lot of impersonators of Marilyn over the years and this guy has Marilyn down. It's uncanny. His facial structure is very similar to MM's. It's amazing.

I saw u perform many years ago and i thought u were terrific - what set u apart from drag artists for me was that u sing - and so very well -!!! rather than sync. You embody all u impersonate. That’s not mere drag. It’s ART. I wish u continued success. You should have been very famous. I love that u keep working no matter the venue. Those who don’t know your work have no idea what they are missing.

I doubt you remember me Jimmy I used to work at the Grand and we hung out a few times. I remember everyone telling you you were too good for Atlantic City... And you were. Was happy when you move to New York. We caught up again with one another on an RSVP cruise. I was in the audience and we just had a little banter between each other. If you were in the area I would do what I could to see your show. Great guy.
