      I guess Darth Plagueis being of a "male-species". Ms. Les decided to go on the "Plagueis is Darth Pervis". One of those males that are perverted.
      It was a crime she didn't feature Plagueis (And Master Yoda!) since the first episode. They thought bringing in a "mystery-aspect" would interest the fandom.

    It would've been so much cooler if they revealed that Plageuis created the twins, and manipulated the witches. That it was his first attempt, and it failed by the twins actions, and maybe even them getting killed in the end or something.
    BTW. Think you could've told this whole season in a 3 part mini-series of 90 minutes each. The cliffhangers did not pay off. Loads of wasted moments, and characters.

    The only time bleeding a Kyber crystal red has ever been done right was in the Darth Vader canon comics. After Vader kills a Jedi without a weapon he’s then told by Emperor Palpatine that her has to take it to a place that is strong in the dark side of the force, Mustafar. He takes it deep into a cave and after he extracts the crystal from the saber he then channels all of his fear, anger and hatred into the crystal. He sees his memories of him and Padme and Obi-Wan and even a possible future of him turning against the emperor, tracking down Obi-Wan and kneels before him awaiting his judgment. Vader fights back against that vision and after an enormous amount of effort manages to bleed the crystal red.
    And sadly in both Jedi: Survivor and now The Acolyte, neither come even close to that incredibly powerful moment.

    • @j11nk
      @j11nk Před měsícem +5

      There’s a clear disconnect between how hard it was for Anakin to bleed his crystal in the comics (almost drove him mad) and how natural it was for Osha. I don’t have much of a problem with it, but that took me out of the show for a moment.

      My unfounded observation there is a low key internal war at Lucasfilm. It all started back at the Sequels. Some people wanted to honor George Lucas' drafts for the sequels that he gave Disney. Rian Johnson, Gareth Edwards, and eventually Ron Howard were among these. (Rian Johnson is unique in that he thought he could have it both ways - to honor what Lucas wanted to do but at the same time try some new stuff.) Dave Filoni would of course support Lucas ideas, but he was not part of the sequels.
      Other people, Kathleen Kennedy and especially J.J. Abrahams wanted to distance Star Wars from Lucas the Prequels and wanted to do their own thing. This is why Midichlorians are still called "M-count". They were forced to admit the ideas of Lucas were probably the best way to go but they still dance around it instead of committing to the connection between nature and the spiritual world and explaining it. They are the ones with hubris.
      Headland is like Kennedy's Sith Apprentice just as Filoni is the Padawan of Lucas.

      The worst part is that they actually use it as long as it's convenient. Why make up a new lightsaber resistant material when we can just use this thing from legends that isn't cannon but just take all the information about it and assume it's cannon until we tell you otherwise

    • @writingref
      @writingref Před měsícem +1

      @@c_guy95 And then have that same material be able to "block the force" like Magnetos helmet.
      This actually isn't a new idea - the blocking the force thing - the Ysalimari were a natural way to do it. But . . . I think that heads in a dangerous direction where Star Wars is already becoming "Marvel-ized"

      Which only goes to show that what I'm sure the shows creators would justify as a tease to get lore junky fans excited was just a big sting leaving massive unanswered questions to say "Hey! You see this?! Got questions!? Better demand a season 2 then as that's where you will find out"
      It's just a cameo version of the "mystery boxes" we've been endlessly pushed since Ep.7 all over again except arguably worse than what happened in Ep.7 as the next installment was at least already greenlit for the film whereas there is no guarantee of a second season for this show (and it's not earned it)

    If this was basically a police story set in the Star Wars universe, as implied, what was the message behind Sol's arc? The Witches brainwashed the twins into thinking they would be hated for who they are and their beliefs. They act in bad faith, forcing Sol to intervene, killing the twins' mother. Then, he's forced by his superiors to cover up the botched mission. Mae ultimately says she wants Sol and the Jedi's to pay for their crimes. He's killed without pleading his case and has his name and legacy tarnished.

    • @ludwigvanbeethoven8448
      @ludwigvanbeethoven8448 Před měsícem

      I don't like it when people endlessly try to shoehorn real world politics (or more specifically specific instances of real world politics rather than politics in general) into StarWars but I can't shake the feeling that the subtext of this show in Sol and the Jedis arc is supposed to leave viewers kind of questioning whether law enforcement and child services type agencies are people with good intentions doing very bad things in the name of the state. When most viewers seem agreed that, as presented in the show, there's not much to make us think the characters actually did something "wrong" and we side totally with those characters the show seems us to want to question or to see as tragically flawed heroes rather than just nornal heroes in very unfortunate situations.
      It feels like the motivation was some grand narrative to make us reflect on the nuance behind various events in the real world but the show executed it in such a way that, not unlike real world politics, it's left many people pushing back in the opposite direction thinking it's trying to sell a revisionist narrative that can't be substantiated by its own evidence.
      I can't help but think the whole show is a masterclass in what not to do when it comes making a plot outline, narrative arc, and setting up likeable characters. No one questions for the production quality from a fight choreography and VFX point of view - it never failed to LOOK like Star Wars in the way many previous projects have done. It's just the execution of the whole thing that's so baffling for a show where the "pitch" had enormous potential.

      @@TheKristianHarloff I agree, Osha successfully using the force choke on Sol, who just displayed his super strong abilities in the force is ridiculous as he should be able to deflect and protect himself from her. I was just thinking that the act of a force choke might be instinctual when tapping into the dark side and not necessarily needs to be trained.
      I also think that your idea of Jecki being the main character with her as a Jedi turning to the dark side would have been much better and more powerful character moment if she had been the one force choking sol and then killing her master. Especially since Osha literally said she never became a Jedi and wasn’t trained at the temple for all those years. Horrible writing and execution of a show idea that could’ve been so much better. No, Steph, the rest of the wtiches died when Indara successfully exorcised Kalnaka from being possessed by Mother Koril. Indara restores Kalnaka to sovereignity over his body and in that moment, all the witches go from sitting and swaying "kumbaya style" from side to side to dead. The idea that Indara used the Force to snap everyone's neck remotely and then all the witches die is like Mike thinking that Osha's Force choke was somehow significant. Well..... at least you pantomimed the Stevie Wonder looking head/body side-to-side thing. Good on you for that; it shows you were actually watching.
    "You started that fire; you locked everyone in!"
    "Because the Jedi invaded our home! Everyone in there died because of the four of you!"
    "It was right for us to intervene. My biggest regret was that I wasn't able to save you both"
    Kristian, you are misinterpreting the dialog and assigning to Mae a motive she didn't have.
    Mike, she (I'm assuming your talking about Mae) never says, "I locked them up to protect them," or anything like it. Like, nothing. She says nothing even vaguely like that.
    Some of that scene was fine, some of it was not so great; the only part of that whole sequence that made no sense is why Basil the Nose (what do you call him? Shit Weasle?) sabotaged Sol's attempt to do....something? What thing? Was he going to try and shoot Mae down? Did his ship have a tractor beam? We don't know? That force choke was the same as in Dragon Ball Z with Gohan, in many instances he's been the most powerful character when he has heightened emotional bursts. If one is powerful with force it's through extensive training, earned. Not emotionally gained without understanding how you got there

      It was painful to watch especially episode 3 with the cringey chanting. For me, the writing was terrible with character motivations all over the place. There were no likable, relatable characters. The two leads were murderers and the Jedi turned out of be liars. The surprise cameo at the end was too little too late to save this plot hole ridden canon busting series.

    I think they did massive reshoots without changing dialogue in the finale. Torbin suicides, Sol is guilt ridden, Osha and Mae are beyond anger over what Sol and the Jedi did, and what the Jedi was shown doing is *checks notes* tries
    to rescue kids from *checks notes* a witch cult.
    Like, think back to college when you wrote a paper and then had to hamfist some essential points into the middle, but don’t really feel like sweeping the whole thing to make sure it all has the new correct connective tissue, thinking “eh whatever its good enough.”

    The only justification I can see about the force choke is that they did train in the force as kids. They trapped/froze the bird or butterfly in the ep 3 I think. Can probably trapped or freeze a throat.
    100000% agree about not making a complete season 1. So many questions! You can see the budget, looks good but not in the writing. Best writing/acting I loved in the whole series was when the Counselor/Senator was calling out the Jedi.

    Overall I enjoyed the show. Reminds me a lot of how I felt about the Prequels. I was really liking Sol but they lost me these last 2 episodes. It was never clear why he suddenly wanted Osha as a padwan. Then him continually bringing up this episode that Mae and Osha were not twins seemed like exposition for us but I don't get what his point was in saying that as some justification of why he was sus about Anisea. I think the show was trying to make Sol an overzealous cop but by the end the motives were confusing.

I can understand criticism for the previous episodes (I'm a prequelist, so I'm more forgiving of badly written dialogue), but I thought the finale was quite thrilling and I thought even people who weren't enjoying the show would like this episode. For me, the pacing, acting, choreography, and music were all great. I really hope they make a season 2 because I can see how Plagueis could fit into this (and would love to have answers to questions his cameo bring up). To each their own though.
