The Sun is the most powerful force in our solar system. It generates the heat and light that sustains us. Without it we wouldn’t have life on Earth. But the Sun is violent and volatile and is becoming more dangerous as it ages.
Naked Science explores the life and death of the Sun. We explore what will happen in the future as the Sun ages, and how our lives linked to the Sun’s life cycle.
Firstly we want to understand how the Sun was created from a giant cloud of dust and gas. Scientists pretty much agree on the theory but physical evidence is hard to come by. Naked Science meets scientists at Johnson Space Center who have been working on a ten year mission to bring a piece of the Sun back to Earth. How do scientists collect samples of the Sun when a probe could never get near the Sun’s surface? We follow NASA’s dare devil mission to capture the samples.
Today we rely on the Sun to live. It’s energy fuels trees and plants which are essential for the food chain we all depend upon. But how do we get the energy? Naked Science explores the incredible journey that the particles of light from the Sun have to make to earth to deliver their energy.
How old is the Sun? This is a question which has fascinated scientists for a long time. Scientists have now established the Sun’s age with the aid of one remarkable fact that the Sun sings. We visit Big Bear Solar Observatory in California to meet one of the scientists who has been at the forefront of using the Sun’s sounds to determine its age.
The Sun’s warmth and light helped life on Earth to begin but it can also play havoc with our modern way of life. Billions of tons of plasma erupting from the sun send powerful storms hurtling through our solar system. We visit the Space Environment Center in Boulder, Colorado where they try to predict the sun’s violent moods. 1989 brought one of the most dramatic space storms and Naked Science uncovers the events which took place on the Earth. But what lies behind the explosive events on the Sun. We travel to the California Institute of Technology in Los Angeles where they are trying to understand the science behind the explosions by creating them in the laboratory.
But what about the risks of solar storms to astronauts in Space? Naked Science meets Michael Foale who was directly in the line of fire on the International Space Station during the intense solar activity in 2003. There is one solar event astronauts can’t be protected from. A superflare. Superflares are up to 10 million times more energetic than the most powerful solar flares. Naked Science journeys to Louisiana to meet an astrophysicist who has found evidence of nine stars that have experienced superflares. What if our sun ever produced a superflare, what would happen to life on earth?
We know when the sun was born, how it nurtured us and how it has thrown a fair amount of danger our way. But how and when will it die and will the Earth survive?

How the Newly created Volcanic Earth was converted to Green earth ?
How water came to Hot Planet Earth ...Quran ….Billion years Ago
He is the One who made, Planet earth A mother’s Lap (safe resting place / Narrow Zone Of Life)
And we designed in it pathways for you.
And sent down waters (to cool hot earth and start life) from skies (throne of Allah).
And from that we created Plant life (First Plants was create) in pairs. 20:53
      أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الْأَرْضَ مِهَادًا ﴿النبإ: ٦﴾
Did not We made Planet earth A mother’s Lap (safe resting place / Narrow Zone Of Life)? 78:6.
It means, by default Planet earth was not of this nature, but it is made.
And this single sentence include, all the transformation of planet earth form hot volcanic separated earth from big bang to present day earth.
Think! in both sentences “He is the one who made” or “Did not We made”
States, Planet Earth was not in the type it is today, but it was by
      Well established power
      Well established plan
Well established program, it is made / designed / created.
How planet earth was cooled, what was first step in cooling of earth… is next verse.
      وَالْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا ﴿النبإ: ٧﴾
And Made Mountains a Support / Pillars / Pegs of life. 78:7
First huge Mountains start to form from volcanic activity to great heights and heights initiated cooling.
Explosion of mountains was initiation of changing of earth.
So, mountains are referred as pillars and pegs of starting lively earth.
Aggregation of Mountains / cooling of volcanoes to mountains was first step, in initiation of hard crust
on planet earth that supported water and starting of life.
And We made in it (Earth) Anchors (Fixers) for the top and they are expanding (growing, moving) and Balancing with those connected with it, all these in 4 days, Explanation for those who Question (Doubt Quran) 41:10
And He designed in it (earth) mountains ranges on the top, and they are expanding / moving (continental drift)
(initiation of creation of hot volcanic earth to green earth, began form rising of mountains form boiling lava by volcanoes)
and they follow a Law, and all of those connected to them (mountains).
(All process was going on strict instruction / laws instructed by the Great Planner, Programmer)
And this was done in four stages / periods by this Power Designer / Architect, God.
And in these (laws / sciences) are answers to those who doubt Power / Precision / Protection of the Powerful God.... 41:10.
Designed skies without pillars (connectors), don’t you see ?
And We put in earth anchors, so that it should not shake you, and made in it living of all insects.
And sent down from skies waters, that cultivated in it (earth) all kinds of Living pairs.
How water came to planet earth ?
      وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ أَنَّكَ تَرَى الْأَرْضَ خَاشِعَةً فَإِذَا أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْهَا الْمَاءَ اهْتَزَّتْ وَرَبَتْ إِنَّ الَّذِي أَحْيَاهَا لَمُحْيِي الْمَوْتَى إِنَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ ﴿فصلت: ٣٩﴾ And from our signs, don’t you see the earth humbled / submitted itself and was dry molten, when We sent down on it waters.
It moved / split itself (formed continents) and it swelled (increased in size because of addition of water).
Beyond doubt, He is the one who gave life to it, who has power to give life to dead.
Verily He has control on everything that exists. 41:39.
This humbled earth is in reference to submission of Planet Earth in verse 41:12.
(خَاشِعَةً) also means dry / waterless / barren, and humbled / submitted.
When came flowing and liquid water to planet earth ?
First Cooling of Hot earth by Mountains.
Planet Earth was created 14 billion years ago according to science.
First cooling phase of earth is called Cryogenian period (freeze ice phase of earth) 800 to 635 million years mentioned in Quran 78:14.
Then from Freezed earth of 200 million years, to liquid water earth by ice melting to liquid water, and that brought nutrients hidden in freezed earth crust in botanical use by flow of water and first oceans and first single cell plant life or botanical life started
Then there was Botanical Big Bang, they producing of huge oxygen.
Huge oxygen in air triggered single cell life to multiple cell life and cell colonies and Oxygen Boom 78:15
With huge oxygen in air starts biological dawn, called Ediacaran period that is known by fossil study and study shows large boneless creatures.
After shell-less sea creature 635 million years ago, the appearance of bony structure 575 million years ago called as Avalon Explosion.
Then Cambrian explosion 542 million years ago. This is Biological big bang first 20 million years
Cryogenian period (freeze ice period of earth) 720 to 635 million years ago… Quran 78:14
      وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ الْمُعْصِرَاتِ مَاءً ثَجَّاجًا ﴿النبإ: ١٤﴾
And We bring down waters (first waters) from ice meteorites, then it was liquid flowing water.78:14
As, new Planet Earth was volcanic and lava so no chance of any water on that earth.
Then huge mountains starts forming to great heights form powerful volcanic activity and great heights cooled them, at same time water from skies started cooling surface of earth and formation of hard crust. About 700 million years ago.
And this frozen and icy planet earth remains for 200 million years, until depth of earth became cool enough so the earth do not became hot as it was in the beginning.
Then there was a phase of melting these frozen earth.
For science, some unknown causes caused melting of ice that, encapsulated 95% of planet earth,
But by Quran it was by program and plan of creator of universe.
This melting of ice to liquid water brought the locked nutrients of hard crust in seas, that helped to flourish botanical life or algae to produce Oxygen that resulted to support creation of new species. ….
See how step by step Quran Explains
      لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا ﴿النبإ: ١٥﴾
From it (liquid waters), We cultivated Grains and Vegetative Fields 78:15
      وَجَنَّاتٍ أَلْفَافًا ﴿النبإ: ١٦﴾
      And huge botanical explosion. 78:16
      Botanical Big Bang:
Domination of botanical life and huge production of oxygen.
This Huge production of Oxygen was the cause initiation of multi-cellular life and organized life structures.
Because of this huge Oxygen, the Panspermia life survived on planet earth and started multiplication and diversification and start of Triassic and Jurassic life.
After these examples / proofs, How Allah initiated creation, coming back to the topic.
When the botanical life was ruling the planet earth, 8 pairs of animals was sent by meteorites agreed by science by the theory called Panspermia theory. 39:4
Then was Triassic Age 250 million years ago, followed by Jurassic age 145 millions years ago.
Then termination of Jurassic age and coming of Adam AS.

He is the one who, planned, programmed and designed for you all in the planet earth to perfection / totality.
Then, He turned towards sky, it completed itself in seven layers / departments.
And He is the one will total knowledge / sciences.2:29
When Planet earth was totally complete, He planned to send the kings / rulers / dominants / successors to planet earth, the next verse.
      A moment of thought?
      1) These 4 lines revealed in Quran, 41:/11/12 and 51:1/2/3/4 was it possible by any human to explain this, without any instrument or probe, that too 1500 years back ?
      2) Is there in any holy scripture of this world, which has these equaling lines, Bible/Veds/?
      3) Did any religion, oldest like Hinduism and newest like Sikhism, ever talked so detailed explanation of universal / sky system and planet earth and its construction to present itself?
      4) What non-Muslim brothers think after reading these messages that creator of universe used as His means of authentication.
      5) Think how designer of universe, used Non-Muslim sources NASA, ISRO, CSA, ESA and others to reach you

Well, there's two ways of looking at this. 1. When you consider the scientific advances we've made in the last 100 years alone, we've got millions more years to figure out how to leave for another star system, etc, etc. although what this programme did not mention was that, of course, all other systems will die too!! or 2. Just be happy, live life and stop fighting, because your views and ideologies are ultimately pointless.... Our World is beautiful and humbling, enjoy it while you can. Live long and prosper!

THE ULTIMATE (AND CLEAR) MATHEMATICAL UNIFICATION (AND PROOF) REGARDING PHYSICS/PHYSICAL EXPERIENCE IS NOW DEMONSTRATED, AS E=MC2 IS F=MA: TIME DILATION ultimately proves (ON BALANCE) that E=mc2 IS F=ma, as ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy is gravity. This NECESSARILY represents, INVOLVES, AND DESCRIBES what is possible/potential AND actual IN BALANCE. (Importantly, balance and completeness go hand in hand.) The stars AND PLANETS are POINTS in the night sky. NOW, A PHOTON may be placed at the center of WHAT IS THE SUN (as A POINT, of course); AS the reduction of SPACE is offset by (or BALANCED with) the speed of light (c); AS E=mc2 IS F=ma; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/ENERGY IS GRAVITY. Indeed, ultimately and truly, TIME is NECESSARILY possible/potential AND actual IN BALANCE; AS E=MC2 IS F=MA; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/ENERGY IS GRAVITY. Very importantly, outer "space" involves full inertia; AND it is fully invisible AND black. GREAT. Accordingly, INSTANTANEITY is thus FUNDAMENTAL to what is the FULL and proper UNDERSTANDING of physics/PHYSICAL EXPERIENCE; AS E=mc2 IS F=ma; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy is gravity. It ALL CLEARLY makes perfect sense. Gravity IS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy. E=mc2 IS F=ma. ELECTROMAGNETISM/ENERGY IS GRAVITY. E=MC2 IS F=MA. GREAT !!! Gravity AND ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy are linked AND BALANCED opposites, AS E=mc2 is F=ma; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/ENERGY IS GRAVITY. Consider THE MAN who is standing on what is THE EARTH/GROUND. Touch AND feeling BLEND, AS E=mc2 IS F=ma; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/ENERGY IS GRAVITY. The stars AND PLANETS are POINTS in the night sky. GRAVITATIONAL force/ENERGY IS proportional to (or BALANCED with/as) inertia/INERTIAL RESISTANCE, AS E=mc2 IS F=ma; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/ENERGY IS GRAVITY. Gravity/acceleration involves BALANCED inertia/INERTIAL RESISTANCE, AS E=mc2 IS F=ma; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/ENERGY IS GRAVITY. Accordingly, the rotation of WHAT IS THE MOON matches it's revolution. Great. MOREOVER, a given PLANET (including what is THE EARTH) then sweeps out equal areas in equal times consistent WITH/AS F=ma, E=mc2, AND what is perpetual motion; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/ENERGY IS GRAVITY. Gravity IS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy. INSTANTANEITY is thus FUNDAMENTAL to what is the FULL and proper UNDERSTANDING of physics/physical experience, AS E=mc2 IS F=ma; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/ENERGY IS GRAVITY. This NECESSARILY represents, INVOLVES, AND DESCRIBES what is possible/potential AND actual IN BALANCE. Stellar clustering ALSO proves ON BALANCE that E=mc2 IS F=ma, AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy is gravity. Objects (including WHAT IS the falling MAN) fall at the SAME RATE (neglecting air resistance, of course), as E=mc2 IS F=ma; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/ENERGY IS GRAVITY. "Mass"/energy is gravity. ELECTROMAGNETISM/ENERGY IS GRAVITY. E=mc2 IS F=ma. THE DOME of a PERSON'S EYE is ALSO VISIBLE. (Notice the flat AND black space of what is THE EYE.) The stars AND PLANETS are POINTS in the night sky. The sky is blue, AND the Earth is blue. THE EARTH/ground AND THE SUN are E=mc2 AND F=ma IN BALANCE, AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/ENERGY IS UNIVERSALLY PROVEN TO BE GRAVITY in what is a mathematically unified fashion. E=mc2 IS F=ma. The middle distance in/of/AS SPACE AND the full distance in/of/AS SPACE are NECESSARILY linked AND balanced. MAGNIFICENT !!!!!!!!!! INSTANTANEITY IS thus FUNDAMENTAL to what is the FULL and proper UNDERSTANDING of physics/physical experience, AS E=mc2 IS F=ma; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/ENERGY IS GRAVITY. Gravity IS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy. It is ALL CLEARLY proven. Again, the stars AND PLANETS are POINTS in the night sky. GREAT. Energy has/involves GRAVITY, AND ENERGY has/involves inertia/INERTIAL RESISTANCE. It is all CLEARLY proven !!!!!!!! TIME is NECESSARILY possible/potential AND actual IN BALANCE, AS E=MC2 IS F=ma; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/ENERGY IS GRAVITY. Gravity IS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy. GREAT !!!!!!!! BALANCE and completeness go hand in hand. By Frank DiMeglio

    • Gravitation
Neutron stars are city-size stellar objects with a mass about 1.4 times that of the sun and 15 km in diameter. Gravity presses the material in on itself so tightly that protons and electrons combine to make neutrons, yielding the name "neutron star. They are so dense that a sugar cube sized lump of material from a neutron star would have a weight of approximately 1 billion metric tons (equivalent to the weight of Everest mountain). Inside a neutron star, there's a delicate balance between the tremendous gravity of the star, and the degeneracy pressure of the neutrons. The neutron star's density also gives it very high surface gravity, more than 200 billion times that of Earth. Neutron stars have an escape velocity of 150,000 km/s which is half the speed of light. The neutron star's gravity accelerates infalling matter to tremendous speed. The force of its impact would likely destroy the object's component atoms, rendering all the matter identical, to the rest of the neutron star matter. If an object were to fall from a height of one meter on a neutron star, it would reach the ground at 7.200.000 kilometers per hour.
    • Starquake and Gama Rays Burst
The crust is composed of broken-up atoms of iron with a sea of electrons flowing through the gaps between them. This crust is extremely hard and very smooth (with maximum surface irregularities of ~5 mm), due to the extreme gravitational field. About a kilometer below the surface, neutrons and any surviving protons are squeezed together so close that they organize themselves into some really odd structures such as sheets, cylinders and others. This inner crust of neutron star, which was called nuclear pasta because of the resemblance of spaghetti and lasagna, could be 10 billion times stronger than steel and possibly the strongest material in the universe. Due to either its ultra-strong interior magnetic fields or spindown, an unimaginably massive quake occurs by ripping the immensely strong crust of neutron star only one centimeter in lenght in a tenth of a second. It realeses much more energy in a form of gama rays into the space through that one centimeter crack than the Sun emits in 150,000 years. But the inconceivably powerful gravitaional field of a neutron star reconstructs its surface and covers the crack in a blink of an eye. The largest recorded quake was equivalent to a magnitude 23. Had it occurred within a distance of 10 light years from Earth, the quake could have triggered a mass extinction on Earth.
    • Surface Heat
Neutron stars are extremely hot and have a surface temperature of around 1.000.000 C degrees. Anything approaching a neutron star too close immidiately evaporates.
    • Electromagnetic Field
Neutron stars are characterized by their extremely powerful magnetic fields. These magnetic fields are from hundred millions to quadrillions (magnetar) of times more powerful than the field surrounding Earth. The magnetic field of a magnetar would be lethal even at a distance of 1000 km. The strong magnetic forces would start to squeeze the electron orbits in all the atoms in your body. The molecules that make up your body are only able to hold together when they are made from normal shaped atoms. So once the atomic orbitals got sufficiently distorted, their chemistry would change dramatically and these molecules would start to fall apart. And your body would be reduced to a dusty, incoherent mess.
    • Electromagnetic radiation
Most of the light generated by a neutron star is in the form of gama and X rays due to its extreme surface heat, high electromagnetic field and matter acceretion from a near companion. The strong magnetic fields combined with rapid rotation create an awesome generator that can produce electric potential differences of quadrillions of volts. Such voltages, which are 30 million times greater than those of lightning bolts, create deadly blizzards of high energy particles. These high-energy particles (protons and electrons) produce beams of radiation from radio through gamma-ray energies emanating from the poles of the magnetic field. Like a rotating lighthouse beam, the radiation can be observed as a pulsing source of radiation. The pulsar in the Crab Nebula has been observed to pulse in almost every wavelength-radio, optical, X-ray, and gamma-ray. A few dozen pulsars are observed to pulse in X-rays and six are seen to pulse in gamma-rays.
    • Rotation
Neutron stars are the fastest rotating objects in the universe. The fastest-spinning neutron star known, which is 15 kilometres in diameter, is rotating at a rate of 716 times a second or 43,000 revolutions per minute, giving nearly a quarter the speed of light (75.000 km/s) on the surface of equator.
A neutron star wouldn't be able to hold itself together at such a high speed rotation if it weren't its tremendous gravitational force.

I'm going to guess that the size and escape velocity are a rough average. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they aren't all the same size are they? And for temperature....they start hot but lose that over time don't they? (Assuming no more matter goes in.....it would have to if all it is doing is releasing energy)

Because other heavier elements like Silicon, Aluminium, Magnesium, Iron and Nickel which makes up the crust, mantle and core of the earth are much less abundant on the sun. So if there are no heavier elements there is no question of 'floating on the top'. And most of it is in plasma state where the entropy acts much differently. It can counter the effects of gravity.

Speaking of Project Genesis, I am wondering how it is that Earth has such a different composition than the sun, even though all the planets and the Sun formed from the same cloud.
I'm not asking this from the view of a doubter, but as someone who wishes to learn more and more.

      + Biker Dash
      sun formed first
      upon ignition
it blew out most of the stray gas
rock and gas balls leftover (planets)
      same composition of all parts
      can no longer occur
our solar system is a 3rd generation product
lots of elements available for its construction

what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

When our sun expands out will it not change the habitable zone? So as earth melts mars will become more inviting then when mars starts to melt maybe Pluto will be habitable by then. Just a thought.

I really appreciate the fact that Naked Science has no political agenda. Just fact/reason/logic-based science.
In terms of 'climate change' and 'global warming', it is clear that it's inevitable. The question I have is "How much can we humans do to SLOW DOWN global warming?" In terms of saving the ozone layer, and reducing greenhouse gases, I believe we CAN make a difference, but I wish I knew just HOW MUCH of a difference can we make?
