  • This 1967 video clip from “The Wilburn Brothers Show” features a performance from the Osborne Brothers, Bobby and Sonny Osborne, highlighting Sonny’s banjo and vocal skills and how they blended with his brother Bobby.
In 1953, Sonny Osborne-whose command of the high-speed, finger-rolling banjo style of Earl Scruggs made him a top player in his field from the start-formed the Osborne Brothers with his mandolin-playing older brother Bobby. Together the Osbornes created a groundbreaking style of trio vocal harmonies with Bobby’s soaring high-tenor on top, Sonny’s strong high-baritone in the middle, and a low tenor providing the bottom.

Rare taped appearance of Harley Gabbard with the Brothers. I miss him. And now Sonny. Losing many of my former colleagues.

There are many country bands that would not follow the Osborne brothers. They were top notch entertainers. They were the opening act for Merle Haggard, for a couple of years. 2:51 they played at the White House together in 1973. Hottest Country, and blue grass bands at that time.

I'm looking for a clip from the same show where Sonny talks about a book he wrote. Same show. It was up years ago.
