- Trash to terracotta is your next weekend project and the upcycling movement you so need to join! I created this easy technique for making ceramic effect chalk paint, which can be used to upcycle ugly vases, and also for painting planters, cups and anything else you want to give a ceramic look.

i wonder if i'm alone in thinking I LOVED the black and white striped vase?? It looked so cool to start!
Was looking for a terracotta styled wall vase when I decided to Google if I could diy the style on a regular wall vase... Thank you so much! This is exactly what I was looking for
I just tried this and my vases look amazing! Thank you so much for this idea! I've tried both baking powder and bicarbonate soda, both work great. The baking powder creates a more thick and mouse-like texture. B. Soda is a bit lighter but also has this grainy texture, I would say it goes on much lighter.
I really want to try doing this. My only concern is does it chip off easily, or leave residue on surfaces (once completely dried)?? Thanks!
So she came up with this but she's not getting hundreds of thousands of views? UNFAIR! Thanks for the content. I'm subscribing.
I’ve seen videos on this years ago and I’ve been doing it since. She didn’t come up with it, unfortunately. If you follow a lot of thrifting channels or home decor channels you’ll see, it’s been around. It’s a great idea though, huh! ☺️
I am soooo unbelievably grateful you shared this! I have been trying to find old Spanish types of vases for super cheap for MONTHS! I finally gave up a few days ago because they were all just way to expensive for nothing, now I just ran across your video and I am sooo excited!!! Going to the thrift store ASAP to try this! Thank you, thank you!!! 🙏🙏😱😁
Found you through Macenna’s channel.
I’m going to start painting vases asap😉🦋👍🏽
Yay thats so great to hear! Thanks for tuning in xx
@@GenevaVanderzeil I was hopping u had a comment down below but ill have to under someone else's. I had to say thank u very much! I have sooo many vases I don't like anymore. I'm so happy I found ur channel. Ur very talented. By the way I saw a brief glimpse of ur Instagram pics of the vases and I saw you put an eye on one of ur vases. I was just wondering why u put that on there? Do u know what that means and what it represents? Just curious. But anyway I just wanted to compliment you on ur beautiful work❤
Wowww i think this is so cool! I love this look. Definitely gonna try it out!
SO COOL!!!! Can't wait to try!!

One of the best videos love this!!!
Hi, how are you doing
Going to do it soon 😍
For anyone wondering she used
White: Haymes Paint in Minimalist
Pink: Taubmans in Pale Russet
Yellow: Dulux in Raw Umber
Orange: Megatreat Liquid Terracotta (I didn’t add baking powder to this)
omg! I was like why does this girl look so familiar?... I used to be obsessed with your sewing blog posts on a Pair and a Spare! I remember making the DIY off the shoulder top and a DIY off the shoulder dress from a men's shirt. I also made other things that turned out to be fails but that's okay because trying and failing is how I eventually learned how to sew. So glad to randomly run into your channel!
Hi Geneva! I have seen this projects on your instagram and they turn out so CUTE! This video is really helpful, you teach so well how to make them. Thank you so much for sharing. Love from Portugal :)
Thank you so much lovely, so glad you like!
Love it😍😍
Omgg i love it 😍
So glad I found you!!! Finally someone in Australia 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I’m so doing this tomorrow.
Helloooo thank you for dropping in!
How are you doing
Literally did this today! Sampling Vivid White for the house had quite a bit left grabbed a small yellow ceramic vase and plastic balloon shaped indoor plant sprayer with a gold top. They both look great and when I put the gold nozzle top on no way can you tell it’s plastic! 👍
Yayyyy thats so great to hear!
I’ve been going gang busters on this idea. Thank you for sharing.
I didn't have baking soda, used shake and vac worked great and smells fab
Great video, you got a new follower 👍🏻
I will definitely try this..
And I love your dress, where did you buy it?
Greetings from Sweden 👋🏻
I'm here after watching XO, MaCenna's video. I'm in love with the vase makeover videos. What's interesting though, I just watched a DIY video on Lone Fox and it looks very similar to the wall hanging behind you.
OH yes, I think he did a smaller one?
What type of paint you used? Are these wall paint colour or enamel paint?
Hi! I love your work! Can I use latex paint for this? or acrylic paint will work best? notice me please..
Can I use it on aluminum tray? Thank you, great video
I have used baking soda and it works great.
Thank you! I was just wondering if I could use that instead!
Do I need to use a matter top coat for these?? Or will they be okay to use after they dry?
This is super cool 😍😍 do you think this would work on plastic vases ?
Recon it would be possible to sand down the vase in between coats to remove some of the brush marks?
Think it looks brilliant and can’t wait to try it out :)
Would you need to spray something over so the paint doesn’t run if it ever gets wet?
Hi Ms. Geneva. Could you do a tutorial on the terracotta shapes on the background of this video? Thank you.
Found you through XOMacenna’s channel.
Awww thanks for dropping by!
hey there! would baking soda work for this?
Pls can I use jotun paint its fine or there is other one for pottry vases
Can I use this method for painting air dry clay objects ?
Great tutorial!! Really this terracotta appearance is given by adding baking soda? Amazing
The baking soda in the paint gives an amazing textured ceramic look!
So can you put outdoor if u use baking powder?
Hi! What brand and colour paint did you use? Love them!
Its on her website. 😊 Just click and go down a bit.
Yep all the links etc on my site xx
will it work on plastic vases too?
Would i be able to achieve this on a wooden coffee table i’m wanting to refurbish?
I wouldn’t use this on anything you actually use, instead of stuff that is just for decoration. It would not be durable and just scratch off. Also, wiping it with a wet cloth will take off the paint.
Can I use this technique on a oriental porcele vase?
Does it work on plastic containers?
I would like to use this on some planters. How does it hold up if water gets on it? Should I add some sort of top coat?
I’m wondering the same thing
I used a polyacrylic but it didnt hold up 😳
Can I use salt instead of baking powder?
Does it work on plastic?
Can this project work with plastic vases
Awesome video!! I'm thinking about doing this on plastic bottles and stuff like that, does it work on plastic?
I did it, I would use primer and spray paint them first before this, so it sticks better!
@@arjsm Ooo, thank u for the tip!
Is this going to be waterproof? and can I just use dollar store acrylic paint? :)
It will be. Acrylic is also used for fabric paint which is washable. I used the dollar store acrylic mix with water to stain my deck. It's held up. Tempra, though is not waterproof. That said, I'd test it on a scrap piece. And I wouldn't put them in a sink of soapy water.
I spent 10$ in one at goodwill lol I feel finessed

how do you get these colours?
This is a great technique! Can I use this for plastic planters as well or do you have any ideas for upcycling plastic planters? Thanks!
I want to know this too
Yes you totally can!
@@GenevaVanderzeil thx. I love this, from Ohio, USA
Am I the only one using this for my 3D printer Aztec death whistle replica yes ok
Hi! We can't buy baking powder/soda in my country....got a replacement for that? :)
What country do you live in? How d you bake cake?
@@satrim_naays hi, I live in the netherlands and we can only buy baking powder/soda in little tiny bags. I do not know why...So that would mean I would have to buy ALOT of bags haha. We got lots of pre-packaged baking kits.
@@marissjex what about spackle?
Hi!
You can also use chalk powder found in craft or paint stores..
if you can’t find the powder buy chalk hole like the ones you use to write with and crush them to a fine powder...
I have the same in my country can’t buy baking powder in bulk only tiny cans..
Good luck 👍🏻
@@tracygarrett3952 That might work
