Hey Buddy, I really like this video. You know a lot about Bowies, and you got a great accent .. nice to listento you. Me myself i got the Ontario Hells Belle ... and 2 Trailmaster Bowies, one stag and one kraton, both with the old CarbonV blades.
    Best, Erik

My laredo swedge had a burr, but when i cleaned it up w a ceramic rod and strop it was shaving sharp. Basically a scandi type edge

For give me for being a Bowie geek but keep in mind it the top of the blade has the ability to cut it’s called a “false edge” as opposed to the primary edge or “true edge “ . a swedge doesn’t have the ability to cut .

@@Hissatsu5 the primary grinds behind tip opposite of the main edge of the blade is called the swedge. That is a term for the style of grind.
“Clip” refers to how the point of the blade is formed in terms of the “pattern form” or profile. It is called clip because it is as if it the point was formed by clipping off some of the stock at the end of the edge back at a diagonal to the spine. (Of course, hand forged knives may not really cut away material in order to get this shape.)
A knife can have a “clip point” style pattern form w/o having swedge grinds in the spine behind the point. And, a swedge can either a false edge, or it can be sharpened. Sometimes the swedge is ground to a zero edge like a “scandi grind,” or can be sharpened w a secondary beveled edge.
Many blades w spear, clip, or even drop point patternform tips will have a false edge, that is not sharpened, usually w the explanation that it aids penetration.
Some knives get come w a “false edge” that the user then sharpens, making it no longer a false edge. My dad did that to his applegate folder.
      Cheers!

@@Hissatsu5 hey, you been carrying that fortress? Hows that going for you?
I never could carry a big blade like that concealed iwb, when i take a step forward w that leg, or sit down, my trousers makes the handle swing back and it sticks out real bad under my shirt. Or jacket. Maybe my pants are too tight, i dunno. W a jacket or sweatshirt or the like i can conceal an 8” blade jacked up pretty high so sheath is only down below the top of my belt by about 4”

@@johnanon658 the term false edge comes from sword fighting utilizing the top edge of any given blade that has a sharp top edge not just clips but double edge, sword and Knives as well but Swedges are always dull you can look up the definition of a false edge vs Swedge on Spyderco’s glossary but it won’t go into the history of the terms

Yes, you can show both these knives together in this Video but that's about all that is all you can do because there is very little to compare with them! The Bagwell is so much better than this Hunk of Steel by Cold Steel! Bill Bagwell is one of the Best, if not the Best, Custom Knife builders in the business! I don't have to say more but I do have to mention that I am the owner of this knife which I just Lucked out finding at a Gun & Knife Show here in Florida about 20 years ago! Life is Good here in the Gun Friendly State of Florida!

If I am going to carry a Bowie it going to be the Laredo or the gambler I prefer the gambler. I also like carrying the crkt hz6 as a fixed blade option

@@Hissatsu5 oh, the fortress was just too big to pull off?
Yeah, those ontario bagwells were about perfect for a practical carry knife, penetrate like a dagger, but w thick spine and full flat grinds that gave them the mass to parry and chop too, but not too ponderous or heavy to carry.
Laredo is plenty pointy but a little big to cary, little heavy for many. the CS Recon, smaller version of the trail master, is not pointy enough, imo. Trail master is not well balanced for a fighter.

cool knife.what do u think of the cold steel cable tang?

    • @Hissatsu5
      @Hissatsu5  Před 9 lety +1

joel Velazquez i have no concern about the cable tang i have used it for bamboo and light chopping and as for a fighting knife i fell it is completely adequate i have split wood (botoning) with it and hod no problems with it as well
