He was born in Michigan but raised mostly in Detroit. He constantly moved back and forth because of of an unstable home life. His mom would either lose their apartment / home or home and his brother would have to go with foster care.

I don't really listen to a lot of Eminem, but I respect his talent.I think he's a gifted wordsmith.Rappers who keep it simple & direct appeal more to me.I have to sense the fire & pain in your belly.Scarface, Tupac, or even Lil Boosie for example.There has to be an icy cold Blues type vibe in your expression.Have to pull from the gut & put your diaphragm into it.Rap doesn't have that commanding voice/presence anymore.It's like someone cut off the bass & turned up the treble.Neutered back into boyhood.Not putting that jacket on Em, but this vid got me reflecting back on the state of Hip Hop in general.Marveling at how it's evolved to what it is right now.Em's from an era where the pedigree was still strong.

Yes, Detroit. 8 Mile (Rd.) is notorious. A couple landmarks in this video were The Ambassador Bridge (to Windsor, Ontario) and The Renaissance Center (the tall round buildings). I used to work on 12 Mile.

A lot of the footage in the video was from the movie 8 Mile.... And the sign they showed a couple times is significant because 8 Mile is the dividing line between Detroit and many of its suburbs.
It's a really good movie and I'd recommend that you watch it, some of it is based on his story and I'm sure some of it is filler to make a good movie.
In fact one night when I was heading out of Detroit on my way home from work I happen to go up to 8 Mile and cut across and I seen some very bright lights that normally aren't there and I found out later on that was because they were filming.

Yeah 8 mile road is in detroit. Iâm from 40 ish mins away from there and growing up when we had to go through detroit there are areas that the stores all close by dark or else bad shit will happen. Shootings and robberies. My mom got her car stolen from the security guards at the cancer hospital, like no chill lol there are areas that are safe and areas where you better lock the doors and not stop they say. Like every major city Iâm sure. Itâs also a big place for traf*Icking I hearđ« have heard some horror stories. But em grew up in the bad parts. They arenât given opportunities to succeed and poverty keeps people down. So of course people who make it out of that are inspirational to the other people who feel like they canât and are being told by society that they canât. The tv show All American shows that as well as itâs based on a true story about Spencer Paysinger. A NFL football player who made it from Crenshaw.
