►About the Game -
MEET A NOT-SO-ORDINARY NUN
INDIKA is a third-person, story-driven game set in a strange world where religious visions clash with harsh reality. It tells the story of a young nun who sets off on a journey of self-discovery with the most unusual, horn-headed companion by her side.
On the outside, Indika seems to be a typical nun attempting to adjust to a difficult and monotonous monastery life. Humble and innocent in her appearance, do not be deceived as this young girl has also made a highly unlikely acquaintance-as she speaks with the devil himself.
Indika’s unusual connection with the Evil One leads her on an errand beyond the safe walls of the monastery. The world she discovers can only be described as a wild combination of comedy and tragedy straight out of the novels by Dostoyevski and Bulhakov.
ENJOY AN INDIE GAME WHERE EVERYTHING GOES
The subjects of religion and authority are prevalent throughout Indika’s journey and she’ll be faced with many questions along the way. Guide her to find the answers one by one before she can finish her life-defining odyssey.
Odd Meter is a small, independent studio formerly based in Moscow and now operating out of Kazakhstan. Its members put aesthetics at the forefront and aren’t afraid to tread the fine line of ethical norms. Their game is a great testament to that, as INDIKA constitutes an open challenge to the industry's established approach to creating video games.

Almost all religions: "Patience is a virtue."
CJU: "But, have you heard about hurrying the fuck up?"
I love Indika’s upbeat energy. And it doesn’t seem to be toxic positivity either, she acknowledges when people mistreat her or when things are just particularly inconvenient
With how everyone treats Indika, I'm not surprised she has the devil speaking to her.
They probably got a feeling from her. That someone is watching over her.
I figure that if Satan is taking the trouble to make a personal appearance in Indika's head, there must be something "special" about her. Please play on, Chris. I want to see what that is.
"A Russian Nun in a closed Cloister. In a murmuring trance, driven from Hunger . Gets a epiphany "People are in a Video Game made by God . Satan\Devil is Player One"... Satan realizing one NPC of this game , became aware Its in a game . Narrates her life in her Head . To drive her to Break the Code of the game..."
When you realize the "Points" are pointless... and are there, to show how Religion has Re-programed humans to be in a Cult ... goody good girl points... this experience wants to show the true meaning of religion ... and it goes places , with real questions why do people have a Belief System
Yeah, you know you're special when a deity makes a personal appearance to you.
The closest I got was seeing an owl for the very first time in my life. Happened last August
I'd only ever heard owls hooting in the night, but that night I actually got to see one. It was just perched on a powerline over the back parking lot of my apartment complex.
I knew it was a sign. And, in case you're wondering, owls are the animal avatars of the goddesses Hecate, Athena and Lilith.
@@shadowjudge921 Yup, owls are magical. I'm so glad you got to see one in nature, SJ! When I was 12 or so, I was walking alone down a very long tree-covered road at night on an island in the PNW. As I walked in the pitch black, I began to hear an eerie "whoosh...whoosh...whoooosh" far behind me. I hadn't the vaguest idea what was making the sound. As it approached fast, I managed to keep my wits about me, scared though I was. Seconds later a magnificent white snowy owl flew, silent as a ghost, just inches above my head and off down the road. It was almost a mystical experience.🦉
@@Scriptor13 Wow! That is incredible! I've never heard of owls in the wild coming that close to a human by choice before.
You think it might've been following you?
And a Snowy too. That is rare.
I couldn't tell what my owl was, it was too high up to get a good view, despite the floodlight shining right on it. But, if I had to guess, it was likely your typical Great Horned. Yeah it just sat there perched on that wire then flew off.
@@shadowjudge921 Haha! Maybe he/she thought I was a _very_ large vole. Dinner for the family.😅
I'm glad we've both gotten to experience owls in the wild.
No, Chris. I don't want the devil to join me.
Why not? He’s a hoot
You're the only one. I'm tons of fun!

@@patrickblakethesaintno he is not
The hand movements are fascinating. Might be the first game i came across where they look natural.
You know you've messed up, when the narrator of your life is the devil.
or its a blessing in disguise
The plodding numbness of filling the barrel coupled with the petty meanness of the nuns is an amazingly clever way to create tension. The whole game, Chris! The whole game! Hopefully, there will be plenty of chapters, 'cause I'm so in the mood for another long one.
I have been subscribed and watching almost daily since 2015.
My top 3 favorite things about CjU (Chris):
1. The swearing in his proper British accent.
2. His puzzle-solving skill! I can not do it, I always try to figure a puzzle out along with him and let's just say I would be NO help in any of the scenarios.
3. The cheery way he greets us daily "If you want the Devil to join you, the links are below...."
I've been here a long time, CjU is my favorite Gamer of all time, he has earned it. I could not pick my favorite of his gameplays if my life depended on it but some of the older ones stick out right now such as Outlast plus Whistle Blower, Amnesia Machine for Pigs, Araya... So many more I can't sit here naming them. CjU is at the top of the game, always.
same. i've been here since i was about 14 and i'm 22 now lol. time flies, but im glad chris's content has remained so consistent :') absolute legend
The slow parts really feel purposeful. It forces you to think about what the devil said/Indika thinks. Rummination with the mundane, repetitive tasks.
I wonder if Indika really has the devil in her head, or if her only crime is actually thinking.
Couldn't agree with you more.
For sure it is a unique experience to play an adventure/platforming game in a steampunk Imperial Russia with pixelated parts. Drowned in an christian orthodox catechism and a VERY russian flavour of Dostoevsky's and Tolstoi idea's towards monasticism, Gogol's weird surreal black humour (like dancing little abbes or last moments of a noble captain) and Bulgakov's thoughtful devil.
This game is so much russian in it's very core and yet very universal to play it without even being interested in such stuff. And I really think that the points matter, OR maybe devil wants me to think that way... :)
Anyway, It's lovely to see Chris being pro in yet another mundane job.
Isn't it cool, tovarisch?
Isn't the creator of this game Indika Russian?
I almost had a crisis of faith with that dmn water bucket, but I didn't skip a second. I was obedient! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
crisis of faith? Nope
Another vote for a series. The devil reminds me of the Voice in Little MisFortune. Can't wait to see how it works out. 😊
Yeah. This brings back memories
We don't skip anything in this palythrough! I find this somewhat relaxing. Also, go to tip whenever you play anything including the devil: Don't believe anything they say. The points seem to be connected to Indika's spiritual strength, so obviously he wants you to ignore them. Keep on collecting!
What a fantastical and unique game. Keep on playing mate it is so refreshingly different.
Please please pleeeeeeeeeeease make this into a series! I loved the demo and when I started seeing playthroughs I waited for yours! Please don't make us wait longer !😱🥂
My theory is the nuns despise her because she is curious, innovative, and imaginative.
Good theory.
This is what I was thinking as well. And what she perceives in her head as the "Devil" is actually just her own intrusive thoughts that all humans have, but she distances herself from it.
@@enamorteor maybe it’s the devil. His influence is more pervasive than people realize. Even those “intrusive thoughts” people have are often inspired by him.
That's how they normally are. They hate free thinking.
I thought the other nuns disliked Indika cause she was clumsy. Few times they got mad at her for that.
(But it's the devil harassing her is why she was clumsy.)
I love this game so much! It is so goofy, but is also very serious plot. The voice actors, the story, and the environment in my opinion is just really good and I will be very sad when i finish the game.
Honestly the Devil makes the experience much more entertaining, so not sure why you wouldn't have him on your journey.
Reminds me of Little Misfortune a little there.
@@verda7019 very first thought, though she was talking with death.
The devil is mean. It's more that he's the obstacle or villain.
I really like the direction the developers went with Indika's hallucinations - it makes us the viewers question if it's actually the Devil or mental illness. The up-close-and-personal camera shots during some of the high tension moments is extremely disorienting as well. Hope there are more videos to follow! Thanks for all of the time you put into making the video!
Yes the camera movements made me think of Hellblade
Could always be both.
This game is a pure delight and I'd love to see Chris play it through. And for the record: I did NOT skip during the bucket mission XD
I completely love this game but my favorite thing is the music.
This game looks so good, I love the flashback change to isometric retro view, and the insanity mechanic is refreshing, plus the music change is so jarring and out of place that it shouldn't work but it does.
This game deserves a part 2! Pretty please :)
This might be the game of the year for me. I love it the story, weirdness, horror aspects. Nun doing parcour😂❤😊. Amazing. Very unique. Well done devs❤. Looking forward to more Cju reactions.
Omg this weird shit is back! Looking forward to that banger that played when the 'devil' or whatever was talking 🤣✨️
It's really fun to see how they broke up the demo so it's not just one big section you're repeating. Needless to say, this is a true gem of a game. It reminds me more than a little bit of What Happened to Edith Finch with how the devil narrates and flashbacks are in different styles. The devil's personality also reminds me of the MC Jebediah from Amish Burlesque.
Incidentally, the mundanity of those early chores may seem a little boring, but they're really getting you into the mindset of what Indika's daily routine is like. She's given chores that nobody else wants, and those same chores are often made far more tedious than necessary. At one time, this was considered a means of penance, so it's likely the nuns were doing this as a means to force absolution, while their relative disgust of her was the result of Indika's past and/or reasons for being there. It's likely she'd been hearing the voice well before taking her vow, and had done some terrible things during that part of her life.
Also, if you think being forced to fill a barrel from a well instead of a nearby pump is bad, Medieval squires were required to kneel in a chapel and pray for 24 hours without moving or falling asleep to show their piety before they could be knighted. These days, reenactment groups only require 12 hours (which is still more than most bladders can stand).
I wonder what she’d done that would make the other nuns treat her like that?
@@conorgarrett5893 Traditionally speaking, Catholic nuns were often far less tolerant of new people than they'd show the public. Considering some of the devil's comments, she could have been a prostitute. And considering the one nun's comments when she dumped the water, it's possible Indika had ended up with an STD.
Another possibility is that she committed some sort of crime that harmed her family or their reputation. The devil mentions she was kicked out of her home. That offense could have been what drove her to join the convent.
However, I think the most logical explanation is that her family sent her to the convent because they knew she heard voices and believed she had been possessed by the devil (note how she apparently still gets correspondence from her family). Convents and monasteries were often used to treat victims of trauma or other curable mental health issues due to their relative isolation and lack of distractions.
If this was indeed the case, the nuns likely shunned her because they too thought the voice a sign of demonic possession and instead of making an effort to call in a priest to exorcise the spirit, they simply treat her like a leper. This would also explain why they want her defrocked when the game makes it clear she's very humble towards the other nuns and willing to follow all instructions, no matter how unnecessary.
I love the 8-bit music that comes in from time to time. It's a tone clash and I wonder what the devs intend with it
Gamification? Could be
I felt really really close to enlightenment by the time the 5th bucket came around. And when it was spilled over? Oh boy i think i almost saw God dancing. Honestly, hope this game continues into a series so i can _really_ experience it
What a strange game in a good way.
LMAO the way you chuckled when she was spinning at the beginning 😭😭
"Before enlightenment carry water, chop wood. After enlightenment carry water chop wood"
CJU, you absolutely can NOT leave us hanging! We've seen now "before the demo", and the demo (twice) -- you simply _have_ to let us see what happens next, and what the point of it all is. Pleasepleaseplease🙂!
What a unique game. You don't expect a pixel minigame to kick off a realistic-looking nun game set in the Russian hinterlands. The narration also adds so much. Please do a series!
Really looking forward to where this game goes, the Devil seems like a silly dude lol
Commenting for engagement! Really excited to see you play this! Please continue
"Whose Nun is it Anyway? Where the you are kicked out of the monastery, the devil talks to you, and the points don't matter!!"
I understood that reference!
17:55 brief genre change 💀
Just finished this game and it is amazing. I liked everything about it even me getting fustrated at the little games lol . Great video CJU Thank you..
1-2 hour video, let's fucking go
YES. I cannot wait to see more of this game
Please please please please finish the game! 🙇🏽♀️🙇🏽♀️🙇🏽♀️ it’s so unique and interesting; i got so invested even in just the demo
I hope you'd let the Devil's speech play fully in the black-red sequence next time, Chris. Those are the highlights of the game for me :')
Ive been waiting for your gameplay of this game
This is a very interesting game! Really support the continuation!
I WAS WAITING TO SEE THIS FROM YOU!
Noice. Been waiting for this. No devil for me, thanks. Need part 2.
I watched the bucket fill scene 5 times all the way through
Collecting nun-points to become a better nun. Just to level up to become a better nun and get more nun-points. I'm sensing a lesson in this.
Next part please!
We would never skip in any of your videos. I hope you play more of this game
A full play through please! This is such an interesting game - the world it's building, the characters, the environment. Kudos to the voice actors as well - excellent work by all of them.
Finally, mate. Thank you.
I really enjoyed part one of this game. I sure hope this gets turned into a series. The voice of the devil reminds me of the voice from don’t be afraid, and the sequel don’t be afraid number two. Keep up the great work, Chris.
I loved the demo to this And it looks like the full game is going to deliver :D Unique and super atmospheric. Great voice acting. I'm in for a full playthrough!
So glad you came back for the full game! Hoping to see the rest played through!!
This is a really bizarre game. I love it! I want to see more
Yayyyy finally! I’ve been so excited for this one! 🤗
i love the humor! its so unique, i've been waiting for this release since you played the demo, hope it can be a series
I hope we get to see a full playthrough. This game is so interesting and amazingly wacky at times.
Been waiting for this one! More please 😁
Well this is the greatest thing I have today! The game's demo was brilliant. Thanks CJU for playing this.
Skipping? in a CJU video?? illegal. the people demand the whole series! I'm bitter that the Plague Tale didn't get the second series so this might make up for it
I've been waiting for this game to come out! LOVED the demo when you played it!
I would love to see more! 😊
Great fun! Series please, Chris!
I’m glad it was a quick game to go through in 3 hours, the ending was great too. 😂
looking forward to this being a series, Ive been waiting for this to come out to see you play for ahile!
Yay I'm so excited for this one ! Really hoping you'll play the full game, it's beautiful, wonderfully weird and quite unique. Really liking it so far.
I would love to see where this game goes! In a world where giant dogs are apparently normal, not a single intact road to anywhere, and the devil as your personal companion? Come on, how can you not want to see where Indika ends up? For the record, I didn't skip the water bucket.
Your playthroughs are always so fun! I'd love to see you play more of thia, its an interesting game.
Please play the entire game it looks amazing
Thank you for playing this!! Keep it going! Such a cool game and you’re pleasant to watch play❤️
Yes yes yes to the Indika series, Chris!! It’s such a weirdly terrifying game! In such an addicting way.. love it!
the prodigy evil look but a angel
ah yessss it's always a good day with Chris. I love this wild and weird game. Please make it into a series
Yeeeeeesss!!!! I’ve been waiting for this playthrough since my Steam notified me it was released!!! I hope it’s good! *grabs popcorn and blanket for bingetime*
The game is beautifully thought out and fun to watch through. The music is also super random to me which makes the experience 100% more enjoyable.
What a great game. I hope you continue it as a series, for sure!
OOOOOOOOOOOH I've been SO looking forward to your playthrough of this!
It's finally here! I watched the demo when you played it, and I haven't been this excited for an indie game in a while :D
The demo was really interesting. It’s not just a puzzle game with horror elements, it’s philosophical. The devil does ask some interesting questions.
Full playthrough? Yes, please!
I remembered the demo and couldn't wait for you to play it! I just hate waiting and not being able to see something through! Once I see something and I'm interested, I got to see it all! Aww you stopped. So there is still a lot more of the demo to go still.
This gives off some type of Hideo Kojima vibes
That might be one of the most unexpected things I've seen in a video game
18:25 Is that Aphex twin ? Bizzare, i like it.
I would love to see this as a series!
I absolutely adored your playthrough of the demo to this and I was SO EXCITED when I saw the full game was out!! Really hoping you continue this into a full series. You're one of my faves, and I would love to see you play through it all!
Omg full game finally!! Demo was awesome
Hope this will become a series, such an unique game. Love your commentary!
I really hope you make it to the series, as I was exited to see the full gameplay since the demo. And You are the only one I'm watching, because of your brilliant commentary. It's sooo good!
That was really fun! Great game. Thank you for playing, CJU!
NICE! I've been waiting for this.
Game looked so unique that I've been following it.
I'm really excited for this one
Yes, Chris. I’d love the Devil to join me.
"No one will be admitted during the thrilling barrel-filling segment."
You can’t leave us hanging. Please continue!
As of 8:05, your “XP” of sorts is 1317 out of 1330 (upper left corner) so you’re approximately 13 points off from leveling up
YESSS BEEN SO EXCITED FOR THIS!!!
Yes please, continue with the game! Thanks for sharing, you're the best. ❤️
Yess, was waiting for you to play Chris.
Love Ilya and Indika's interactions and their dynamic
